HP is crap, if you do not use it regularly you have to clean the print heads 2 or 3 times just to get it to print and then it is not good quality. S'ow to start up from being off and very slow to start a print.

Reliability is probably the most important thing. Canon is known to have a purge count that can't be reset even when you clean the overflow sponge. Basically, it commits suicide. The problem is that the nozzles get clogged, and if you are a moderate user and you have to purge and clean them. Instead of having a purge tank, they have a sponge and a digital counter. After you clean a certain amount of time, your printer permanently shuts down. The HP's problem is that they own your printer, not you. They can shut down your printer for any stupid reason. I used to only use HP until they wouldn't let me use the scanner to scan papers into my computer because my black was low. I wasn't printing, I needed to scan and send documents to my lawyers but instead I had to go to FedEx and pay $24 to scan things in because they were trying to force me to buy ink. I have an Epson now, but I don't know about their ecotank. Sad, I have 3 dead printers sitting in my house - 2 HP and 1 Canon.

I have had HP desktops for years and loved them but the price of the ink has gotten totally crazy for me. Then my HPdesktop broke after many long years of service. things had changed so much since I bought that one, I need advice. I was afraid of changing from HP but your vidios have opened my mind and helpd me a great deal with my decision. Thanks.

Brandon, you clearly have a lot of experience and understanding about these tankless printers! Thank you for the great information. Your video is over a year and a half old so maybe your style has changed by now. I would recommend getting into the models quickly at the beginning of your video. I had to fast forward to get to the content that brought me to the video. I would also recommend a visual of the models, comparing the differences by actually showing them. Then showing them actually function and comparing the print quality side by side. I was disappointed to not see a print comparison. All the extra information about cleaning kits can be left for the end. Best wishes!

Hello Brandon. You seem like a very nice person and a good communicator. I've been watching this video for 10+ minutes. Problem, from my perspective, is that you have covered a lot of material but not a single mention about the absolute most important consideration when shopping for a printer. How do these printers compare when printing a full color, full contrast photographic print on photo quality paper? For me, and I'm sure for many people, statistics like ink consumption, wireless capability, use with a smart phone are only important if the printer can print a high quality photographic print. I do understand that there can can be some differences of opinion about the visual quality of the print, but things like color fidelity, banding, saturated blacks, saturated colors, overall contrast range, color shifts, streaks, etc. are fairly easy to comment on. I wish you well going forward. Maybe you comment on these things later in the video, but I think this needs to be addressed FIRST, not at the end as an afterthought.

Excellent video! Has your opinion changed since this comparison? Will you update to 2023 new ink tank printers?

I am struggling to find a good overall All-In-One ink tank printer for home. I am just a casual user, hence easy to use, connectivity, cheap printing costs and double side printing are perhaps most important.

I was actually interested in the Canon monochrome ink tank printer but it only prints and lacks scanning and copying. That would have been great for my needs

Have the Epson xp830. Approx 2 yrs old. Ok for very beginning, but now have unpredictable 'blobs of black ink spurts on my pictures ( and sometimes my documents ). 45 min on telephone w/ Epson was a waste of time. She knew no more than I knew. Did the head cleaning 4 to 5 times in a row. This printer has very light use so what has went wrong??? Close to being trashed, and will not go with anyone who has lousy customer service.

Got a Canon because it was on sale and they had a used option on Amazon that incorporated the sale price, so for a $200 printer for like $140.

Don’t care if it is “the best”…I just am tired of feeling like my printer is held hostage.

Once the initial over view is complete - the Epson line seems the best. Then you do research and find out there are issues with each brand.
Epson:
- there have been numerous reports of color balance problems ( pink overtones ) right out of the box
- the ink absorbing pad when full locks up the printer - has this been solved with the new models ?
- if the print heads clog and don't respond to a "cleaning kit maintenance" , the head replacement is very expensive
- some complaints that colors were not vivid - seemed faded
Canon:
- there are many reports of air leaking into the ink supply tubes causing missing colors if you don't use the printer enough
- earlier models had a ink aborb pad when full would lockup printer - newer models have a user changeable pad
- lack of a full lit screen makes color adjustments tedious
HP - I'm not familiar with them but they seem lacking features and their support has a poor reputation

another peeve is that - service required-. i have an OLD Epson l110 printer, which does the job more than fine for what i need. but now it printed some 6000 pages and the red - ink and page - light is flashing.
together with the green - power on - printer. i had done the things needed several years before, download a - page reset - program that also worked on my iMac.
out the ink overflow sponge, downloaded the program and hey presto the whole thing worked just fine.
not anymore. - WINDOWS programs cannot be opened on an Apple computer - , always the same message.
and holding down this or that button as several -experts - suggested with 100% successes also do not work.
looks like it will be off to an Epson Service...
by the way, if one color tank is empty, and funny, it is also here the yellow, i also can print black only. Set up though is on the print set up. - print grayscale-... and all is black...

This "page yield" is just marketing bollocks, clearly as you can just squirt more ink in to them between print jobs so this would only be an important factor for those who really need to have the printer print single jobs of around 5000+ pages on a regular basis. More useful would be the cost of refills at least, maybe some print comparison examples. What density of card stock could they each handle?

Love your video - best information. I am going to replace my HP OLD printer with an Epson ET whatever. I need the ability to resize - make larger - from the program on the touch screen on the printer. My HP had envy had this capability. Which Epson ET do you recommend for this? I print black and white for classes I teach, BUT I also paint, so I take lots of photos that I print in color as references for my paintings.

This is pure rubbish coming out of your mouth DO NOT use remanufactured ink it's poor quality damages your printer and voids your warranty

Secondly you don't need that kit you was advertising all printers have a head cleaning function granted it might use ink but will fix the ink problems 99 percent of the time I worked selling and fixing printers and 90 percent of my customers came in and I performed a head clean sometimes 10 or more times and it fixes it

Don't trust the crap coming out of this guys mouth

Excellent video thanks, an issue I think that in my case is a Major issue, is infrequent use can result in continuous blockage of the ink channels. If one does not use a printer often enough as in my case like maybe once or twice a week or a month then it's almost like every other time you go to use the printer, my printer Epson Eco Tank with plenty of ink. but always requiring Maintenance due to the lack of use. That can result in very expensive on going problems what good is a like New Printer with plenty of ink when because you are not using it frequently enough, always putting it through the Cleaning process eventually something gives.............with bad results. Here I am with a like New printer, plenty of ink....now shopping for another printer for lack of use I wish there was a way to drain the ink from the vulnerable parts until you use it again, so not to clog up the works.

We don't print very often anymore since my kids are grown up and left the house but I think it's a good idea to keep a printer handy for that occasional copy or print, is there a printer that you recommend that the print heads won't dry out and cause trouble, thanks for the information you did a great job explaining it

Canon: one feature not mentioned is they have excellent live tech support Mon-Fri (& I've never had to wait!). Their live tech support is on a par with HP Tech Support which is also excellent, in my experience.

I've also found Canon's photo printing to be excellent (I'm a photographer); same with their standard paper printing. And I've also found them to be durable & reliable, with a very fast replacement by Canon several years ago on one that was defective.

Also, as a backup, I always buy a SquareTrade Insurance (now an AllState Company) policy which is economical and offers very fast turnaround on a claim. They once had a replacement tablet in my hand in two days.

Excellent review, thank you!!
