I took the cert and finished it within a few weeks if I recall (I had some prior knowledge).

Coursera usually offers a free week trial period too for people who are really on the fence. And yes, if you finish the course completely before the trial period is up, you don't pay at all.

Hi Shane. Saw your video, watched it and thought I'd seek some advice. I really hope you see this comment (or anyone else who can respond) to help me. I've been an educator all my life. I really don't have any other skill. I've been seeking a part time remote job for a while now and I realize I can't find any. As such, I'm thinking of doing a course in Digital Marketing and/or the Google Data Analysis certificate in order to acquire a part time job as a secondary source of income.

What advice would you give me in light of this?

The local college here is offering 12 college credits to people who finish the certificate. Regardless you’re getting g the basics for $50 a month.

I've spent years on web development certifications and working on portfolios and personal projects and I have only been able to land one interview. I would like to take this certification but I am concerned it will be a waste of time.

I got an internal job with BI as a developer before I completed the course. SQL is King. You need more than what is offered so just continue to learn it.

There are lots of bias in this video. If you want to know about data analytics, hear reviews from actual data scientists. He is talking based on the site information without critical thinking. The course claim that job opening in data analytics have that salary does not mean you will earn that same salary range with this course. In fact, this course barely design to master data analytics to achieve those salary range and satisfy actual demand from the job markets. There has been too much people taking online certificates like this lately

This course alone is not much, but it is a good starting point. Doing this course alone and aplying for a job is like going to the university and looking for a job within the first 6 months of the 5 year career. Just put in mind you need to keep adding knowledge after this course and building up your profession. So keep it up, this certificate should be the first of many that you will have to complete in order to get a cool job.

I just finished this course. When I asked my current IT manager which is better, a degree or a certificate? They said with a certificate you have to pass tests to prove you know the material. With a degree, it proves that you were there for so many hours but doesn't prove you know it. Makes sense.

I see many people are gonna be discouraged because it is true and not true when it comes to finding a job. In reality, you will compete against others. I highly encourage getting a degree, or do bootcamp. While employers in a much bigger corporate, they ask for a degree. Then, find internships as always. Finally, take Coursera professional certification to meet ACE credit.
If you do plan not to attend college, you will have much harder like work a lot harder and spend time on your own learning

Nope. 17 months later, with over 5000 job applications, I still do not have a Data Analyst position with this certificate. I revised my resume more than 100 times and have more than 8 years experience in business operations and even managed a few teams as well. I also have about a year of Supply Chain Lead Specialist at my latest company before being laid off. I still do not have a position of the Data Analyst that I want. NOT EVEN one chance, or a successful interview offer. It'll probably boost your chances by 1-2% at best. Having this on my resume did not help in my experience because the interviewers did not even bat an eye at it. Knowledge helps a lot, but they obviously want someone in their industry, and having just the basics down isn't enough. The gap from when we finish this certificate to what a job description required is so wide. 5+ years in Healthcare, Supply Chain, Product Analysis, SQL, Data Reporting is what they are asking for, and the only way to get it is to get in the industry, but again, we can't get in it without being offered a position.

I don’t think you guys understand. People in this field talk so much smack about how this isn’t worth it but regular people like myself want to be better, want something awesome for ourselves. I get being realistic but if that’s the case then you show me something different, otherwise I’m going to pursue this and do my best

I have some questions if anyone is kind enough to respond. I am a recent mathematics graduate from a good university in the UK. I am looking to pursue a career in consulting and business strategy. However, there is a chance that I will start in a Business Analyst role.

So would you expect most entry-level Business Analysts to use just Excel and basic SQL?
I'm not particularly fond of coding as I did an 'Introductory Python' course at university and it was extremely hard for someone who has never coded before and I know I don't want to code for the rest of my life. However, having done some research on what Business analysts do, I get the impression that they don't do a whole lot of programming. For instance, much of the data cleaning/manipulation done on say SQL and Python seem to be quite short commands to import and wrangle Excel data. Would you agree with this?

Furthermore, as someone who knows they dont want to write hundreds of lines of code because 1) I dont think I'm naturally good at it (maybe because I'm dyslexic) and 2) because it boring af to me, do you think it is realistic to become or start a career as a Business Analyst? I guess what I mean is, could you be a Business Analyst and know minimal coding, and instead just know how to manipulate and clean data through fairly simple commands, or do you need to be a programming wizard that can program 100s of lines of code?

Thank you for taking the time to read this.
I very much appreciate anyone who is kind enough to respond.

Hello all, I’m doing some research on the Google Data Analytics Cert mainly for a friend but also for myself. He found on IG some person stating, “All you need is this cert & you can land a job for $90K a year & can complete it within 6 months”. I told him that’s impossible & from what I’m gathering this is a great cert to have “in combination” with either a degree or other certs or both but this cert ALONE will not land you a position earning $90K per year job out the gate. Am I wrong?

Does anyone have experience working in another field, and getting this certificate to get better pay/a more technical position in their non-CS career?

Hey I’d love to get some perspective. I’m currently finishing a bachelors in political science but my circumstances have changed & im looking for a wfh job in data analytics. Should I break in by doing courses like this one, or should I do a Boot Camp? I just applied for an Internship for the fall semester but would like to get an entry job at least.
