Ok, folks, the outlet that I added was on the opposite side of the wall in the same cavity which I stated several times in the video. There was no reason to fish the wires because the short piece of wire that I showed in the beginning of the video was all that I needed to do this install.
ОтветитьIf youre not an license electrian , i would not be making these videos as a guide to follow because you need to use a volt meter to test for load..
ОтветитьSomewhat oversimplified. Does the box need to be near the studs? How do you get the wire through the studs in the wall?
ОтветитьHow did you tap into the existing wire? The wire just pops into the outlet by magic?
ОтветитьThank you for this video. I’ve been wanting to add an outlet to my downstairs bathroom since there are NO outlets in there. My living room wall is opposite the bathroom with a plug in that will work.
ОтветитьBut to find the new wiring from the existing box can't be that easy. When it's fed into the wall how do you actually locate it? If the new end doesn't get to the new outlet hole then you can't grab it to pull it through. This part of the process is obviously crucial but was skipped over and not explained.
ОтветитьAll that's holding the box is those 'wings' holding on to the edge of the drywall. BAD IDEA ! This is a very weak and wobbly attachment. The original box was screwed/nailed ito a wall stud. THAT'S the way to go with a new outlet box. Outlet boxes are made to attach to studs specifically when the drywall is allready installed. These are far sturdier.
ОтветитьVery nice and clear instructions. Thank you!
ОтветитьI just wanna know how he ran the wire lol
ОтветитьU didn't put electrical tape around the screws
ОтветитьI love this channel. You really break it all down in a very clear, concise manner. And I enjoy watching. Great upload & thanks for sharing.
ОтветитьNever use the push plugs on the back of the outlet. I had several come lose working on old outlets on my house. Wrap the wire around the screws on the side using the J hook method. This way, even if t he screw happens to come lose, the wire will stay attached and not short out on something and potentially cause a fire.
ОтветитьThank you for this video. This is exactly what I needed to know. Excellent demonstration !
ОтветитьSuper clear! Make me confident to do a mini project! Just one question on the wire: how to determine the gauge if I’m going to add an outlet for a smart toilet? Thanks
ОтветитьGreat Video !! Thank you
ОтветитьAre you planning a sequel...for walls that don’t exist?
ОтветитьExcellent presentation.
ОтветитьSimple and straightforward. I thought I had to find studs in the wall to install the box, I am relieved I don't have to. Thank you.
ОтветитьOn your wire stripper there are 2 little holes. They are for making your hook to go around the screws for the outlet.
ОтветитьWhat is the wire called?
ОтветитьThe outlet in the other wall was center?
ОтветитьThanks for this Mr. Paw Paw, very helpful.
ОтветитьThank you sir!!
ОтветитьDon't run outlets from a circuit in a different room. It's an accident waiting to happen! Some asshat ran an outlet in the garage from the circuit in our kitchen, so if I turn off the fuse to the garage, that outlet is still live! I'm not dumb enough to work on an outlet without testing it before I touch it, but there are a lot of people who will assume that because several outlets are off in a room, all of them are off.
ОтветитьBeautiful job…and what I mean by “beautiful” you presented the video so to the point and very clear….I’ve done many outlets but I needed a refresher, I was thinking about how to get the “juice” from the other side of the wall…now I know just open the existing outlet send the wire to the other side grab the wire on the other side connect the retro outlet then connect the wires to the existing outlet….thank you.
ОтветитьThank you for your video that help alot
ОтветитьThank you for sharing your video on how to add an outlet.
ОтветитьHelpful Video made things easy for my install. Thanks !!!
ОтветитьThank you for this video. Some of us didn't grow up with this type of guidance - THANK YOU!
ОтветитьCan you do a video showing how to fish the sheath to the other side of a garage wall from a outlet you pulling power from Without no existing outlet behind the new one ? Please and thanks
ОтветитьLike how do u fish the sheath to the other side of the wall to the new outlet from the one your pulling power from ???
ОтветитьGreat vid. But you missed the 4 hours of threading your cable. up and over the ceiling
ОтветитьOh !! Good you clarified was same wall the other side !! , to me opposite wall is the wall across the garage, with a foot+ wire would be difficult from one side of the garage to the other.. lol
Good video anyway !!
14 gauge thanks got it…
ОтветитьWhat gauge wire will I use for this project?
ОтветитьCan you please tell what kind of wire you are using, for the new outlet? How to make sure that you're buying and using the right kind of wire?
ОтветитьExcellent video! Thank U for the cautionary message of checking BOTH top & bottom of the receptacle in case there is an additional power source coming through!
ОтветитьNicely explained.
ОтветитьThanks for your video. This is my next home project for my wife. Well Done Sir.
ОтветитьOnly the brass hot side of an outlet will have the tab broken to have the outlet on two circuits such as a kitchen counter outlet. The cable in there will most likely be a 14/3 so there will only be one neutral needed on the other side of the plug because the hot side will be 180 degrees out of phase.
ОтветитьI think in GB this additional socket is called a spur. Are there any videos showing how to do this in GB?
ОтветитьThank you so much for creating this video
It helps homeowners to save money for small projects
The electrician bill will give anyone a shock.
ОтветитьThank you sir! That was very helpful. I started out today trying to add and outlet to a 3 way switch. However the switch I was branching off of was the second switch. So I backed off of that and decided to come off the outlet from the other side of the wall. Safer and done the correct way. 👍
ОтветитьOf all the videos you guys never show how you fished the wire through to the other side? Lol!
Ответитьis it that easy to push the wire through?
ОтветитьThank you so much
ОтветитьHow do I know if there is an electric wire in the wall behind the hole I am drilling in the wall ? 😒I guess I missed something in the explanation...
ОтветитьJust bought a house. Gonna need to add some outlets and move some wiring around. Needless to say you have a new subscriber.
ОтветитьVery useful! Thank you!
