First, thank you for your service! Second: I just bought a 2011 Z71 last Friday. I've wanted one for a long time. It has 106k on it, but it's in great shape. I'll be ordering one of these very soon. Boy, that 5.3 ain't not slouch! I'm not quite used to it yet. Me and the wifey were heading home from the Walmarts the other day and it had just started raining. We came out of the parking lot sideways. The thing rides like a Caddie, and other than the 4 to 8 cylinder switch lag, she gets up and GOES! It has some very new Cooper Discovery tires on it. It looks like it was very well cared for. No ticking, cold or hot, she's as quiet as a church mouse (that may change in the future, if you know what I mean.) Quiet going down the highway, other than the tires singing. We are super happy with it. We live out in the boonies a mile down a private dirt road (that is not maintained by the county) that's pretty rough, we truly needed a good 4x4.

@jakeniteasy you clearly didn't do enough research nor talk to a tech guy nor talk to a Mechanic nor did you read the owners manual. All you have to do is put it in toe / Trailer mode to stop it from switching into v4 . You'd save yourself $200

Saves your lifters too. This is why im getting a range for my avalanche my favorite truck ever produced. Get rid of AFM with range to save your engine and cost you 3k or more in repairs

Thanks for the in-depth explanation. Just test drove 2 Silverado's and thought they had either a trans problem or crapping power from slow speeds. After watching this I am now going to re roadtest one of them to see if it's because it's bouncing between V4 and V8. I would think GM would want you to have all power from a take off or slow roll but all this economy crap now, we'll see later today lol. Thanks again. If I buy a Silverado or Sierra this will be the first upgrade I do lol.

So do y’all think that one could leave one of these in for 10 years, or more so a bandaid until you actually drop the afm? Just picked up a 15 LTZ with 100k on it

Can you switch it to V4 mode only

Product works great! Actually, what the disabler does is very simple. It simply intercepts and "holds" the signal going to sensors that tells the engine to go to 4 cylinders.

Are you suppose to plug this in before starting the engine? If so, what happens if you plug it in after starting the engine?

I have a 2020 LTZ with the 5.3L V-8 and 8 speed auto. It has DFM instead of AFM, which means it may be running on a variable number of cylinders, all the way down to one. I recently discovered that if I drive with the transmission in L7 it does not shut off any cylinders. GM did a good job of implementing the DFM, but the truck is still noticeably smoother and more responsive with all the cylinders running. I enjoy driving it even more with such a superb V-8.

Iv'e had my range for 3 months now and my tranny shifts and downshifts smoothly, no clunks. I have also read but not tried that you can put the gear shifter in L and bump it to 5 and the transmission wont go into V4 mode.

I have a 2018 Silverado LT with low mileage (34000) and I just purchased one of the AFM/DOD disablers and I hope it stops just exactly what you have described. Wish me luck!
I did check out one video that said he was just putting the truck in 5th gear on an old 6 speed trans and it disables it also. Just wanted to let you know. Thanks for the video dude.

Installed a Range on 2017 Sierra 5.3. Had been having P0300 cold idle problems. Problems dissapeared! Also, I have left it plugged in for two weeks at a time, No noticable battery drain.👍

I have one of these plugged in for about 40K miles, no problems at all and I don't use any oil between changes. Well worth it, and it's easy to use and you can reverse it any time you like by just pulling it out of the port.

I didn't buy my 2015 V8 Silverado to get V4 power. I also didn't buy a V8 truck to get V4 gas mileage. Pisses me off how this country lies to its people on just about everything. Another thing that sucks is the bull$hit GDI engines. The paranoid EPA sells the people a line that its all about saving the planet. The GDI engines are the worst to come down the assembly line because your $50k truck will develop engine problems as the miles accumulate because of carbon build up created by GDI

First, thank you for your service to our country. Second, I am aware this is an old vid but a very helpful one as I am purchasing a used Silverado 1500 with 60k miles on it. I will definitely invest into one of these Range AFM plug ins, although it is up in price to $220 as of 1/3/2022, I think it is well worth it. Thanks again, thumbs up.

That’s the first thing any knowledgeable GM truck owner does. I bought my 16’ new and had a Ranger ordered in the first week of ownership. I haven’t really noticed a marked decline in gas mileage. Fact is I got back from a 500 mile road trip and was rolling at 80 most the way. Arriving back home I noticed my mileage average as 26 mpg. (5.3 L) Don’t blame GM, their just responding to the governments stupid Cafe Standards. Kinda tuff when you sell more Trucks than Econo boxes.
