I skip for 3 minutes in between the 30 second rest period ,I do 15-20 press ups/push ups..(6-7 rounds of skipping,21 minutes in total)..is that good or bad?

its actually easier to jump rope for two hours than to run but its because running is much worse for your joints and it destroys them. hands down for losing weight and fitness jump rope is better more fun and better for your body.

As in 2 hours without a little break/without tripping? Idk, maybe one could do an hour at a slow pace, but 2 hours is insane. As for which is better, jumping rope has benefited me much greater than running ever has. And you get more attention in the park on a sunny day than does a runner (y)

I've always sucked @/hated running. (if i ran a mile id be knackered)
I started skipping like a month ago and i love it and am good at it, ive just been doing 15-30 minutes sessions. which i dont find it diffficult at all, i change up the speed and jump type a lot, i dont really take many breaks at all like maybe 3 for 10-15 seconds.

I'd recomend it for anyone who doesn't get on with running, its for me personally, much more engaging mentally as well as physically.

Why do I find jump roping at high intensity for around 30 minutes straight, probably about 25 minutes of total jumping because of resetting a few times, easier than running even a 10 minute mile?

Both jump roping and running are great forms of cardio exercise. A trained runner can easily run at their comfortable pace for 30 minutes. A trained jump roping person will not be able to jump rope 30 minutes straight. Plus jump roping works your arms out too so it's a full body workout. Try jump, roping with a weighted jump rope your arms will be burning. A person who jumps rope regularly should easily be able to run. So in my opinion jump roping is better so focus on it more than running but still do both.

jump rope is so much better. Running is monotone and boring, long and unneccesary. Skipping is hard, explosive and you can mix it up with different speeds and different jumps. It's great for your agility, swiftness, coordination etc...If you want to see great improvements in your endurance, then you're best friend would be a 5$ jump rope. Don't forget to warm up your ankles and to wear proper footwear.

To be frank, i feel like jumping rope is as good as running. While its true that running only uses a little of your arm power but dont forget the fact that it uses the quads, hamstrings, glutes a lot, cause you to need more energy as you run. while jumping rope (like just jumping without tricks and variations), being a more explosive exercise uses a lot of energy within a short amount of time but its main focus is the forearms, shoulders and calves.

Is there much difference between the different styles of jumping a rope in terms of losing calories or are they meant for strengthening different muscles and calorie loss is more or less the same ?

There is a LOT of transfer between jumping rope and running, especially considering running technique. You learn to land on your forefoot/midfoot and if you make the connection your running technique will improve greatly. Before I realized this i was able to jump rope for 45 minutes without any pain but running was hell for me. Search for Pose Running and jump rope, thank me later.

I have done both and here are my findings

Jump rope: lose weight fast as hell 1hr jump rope 1 min jump 1 min rest 6 days a week = 1 to 2 pounds a day

Running: in order to lose 1 pound a day = 7 days a week 5 miles a day

Personal stats above may vary with each individual

Both will get you in shape but you have to BE consistent 1 day not doing it like prescribe above = a lost week you wasted your time that week

I was 230 and went to 169 in under 2 months then I started running thats what I did

Take care all!

I'm not convinced jumping rope is more difficult or better cardio wise or muscle development wise.

First off walking is something we do every day all day long and running is simply a more intense form of thr same bio machanics and we also grow up running, even though we may not have run for long distance, which makes running long distance more natural to us and our biomachanics than jumping rope. In other words our bodies are more suitabke to runningbthan jumping rope which makes jumping rope seem nore sifficult initially.

With that said people tend to jog vs actually running when they "run" to make it a more intense exercise. For example try sprinting for two hours straight.

You see it all depends on the intensity with which you approach the exercise. I would say skipping rope requires a ceetain oevel if intesity just to perform the exercise so you fant only jump rope so slow where runnjng you can slow down to virtually a walk. Both can be made as intense as you eant them to be though I woukd say running develops more muscle overall that jumping rope.

I use to actually run all the time (not just jog), and still do from time to time, and when I regularly ran when I trrid skipping rope it didnt feel like a workout at all to me and I coukd easily do it for extended periods of time.

Now that I no longer run regularly, and havent for years, jumping rope is challenging to me. There again it also depends on the level of intesnity with which you approach the exercise.
