In comparison to Good Will Hunting, the guy is already super smart lives as a janitor and doesn't give rat ass about making loads of money. ;-)

For some reason, your critique touched a nerve. I love the movie and series and I interpret both as a testament to the limitless potential of humans. Eddie conquered his need of the pill (at least in the movie) and was still able to operate at super human levels. After reading the comments, I sense that others have a similar experience and view point. I really don't think the movie was intended to promote some sort of neo-Liberalism agenda. The move was intended to make money and it did so by appealing to and exploring certain aspects of the Western psyche--the desire to become mentally powerful, the fulfilled desire of mastery, and the pursuit of a higher calling. As a quick aside, Eddie's plan was never revealed other than some mention of a "Global Force". The fact that I and others respond to this file and find it inspirational may result from our immersion from childhood in Western social constructions. But wanting to be part of something bigger, to be smarter and more effective is not evil in se.

I love how easy it is to identify someone's political and ethical views based on their presumptive description of how "free market capitalism," works and to what extent that currently applies to our society. The hilarious perspective that current society is an example of neo liberalism failing gives away his hand that he believes there aren't enough regulations and taxes. I.e Just Write is a socialist.

Thanks for your contributions to the effort to make us socialist. Impressionable youth will see your diatribe and, because hard work is hard and nobody likes it, think, "Hey ya, this guy's right. I'm gonna sit on my ass and blame capitalism." Meanwhile, those that work hard in a capitalist system will advance. Welp, I guess more for the rest of us!

I could write a much better critique of capitalism than the one presented here since this one never addresses the main argument of the other side, which is obviously the incentive problem a.k.a. the free rider problem.

In hindsight the narrator's faith in government agencies to regulate the Pharmaceutical Industry seems childishly naive.
Also to criticize Republicans but not Democrats over their Covid policies is both partisan and childish.
The most egregious action taken by any State governments was to send infectious Covid patients back to Senior Care facilities to infect and kill thousands of people. I'm aware of 5 Democratic govenors (Cuomo, Whitmer etc) who did this but no Republicans.

What is your rant about neo-liberalism? I don't see the coloration with the film. Since taking a drug to make you smarter does not give you merits, it's just a short cut and is cheating. Also the term neo-liberalism is only used by Marxists to disparage free market capitalism. The saying that companies will take advantage of workers is not really a capitalist belief since a company will lose its worker to other companies that give better benefits. The only time this happens is when we have crony capitalism, where the government makes rules and laws to stranglehold, competitors from coming in. You seem like a salty kid that blames all your problems on other people. I'm able to rise to become an engineer and a lawyer after failing out of college for the first time. I had an outlook like you and blamed the cards that I was given. I have dyslexia and ADD. I went to work for the military and experienced what communism is like and hated how even though you have everything provided for you like food, healthcare and housing, but you are not paid well and all your leadership is toxic. Everyone wants to rank up and shit on you. Trust me the whole idea that in a marxist society everyone is going to treat each other kindly is just a myth. You are not considering human nature. I decided to hit the books and study harder than other people because of my condition. I could be very successful, in a capitalist system even with all my disadvantages, I don't see why anyone can't? Trust me you do not want a Marxist system. In a capitalist system, if you are at the bottom, work harder to get the credentials to go anywhere you want. I am at the stage where if one company is treating me horribly, I can just leave and find a new job.

I have to disagree with your interpretation of this film. I loved it and I really like the spinoff series. When I was very young I always loved stories of characters who succeeded because of their wits rather than their strength. The earliest example of that was "Puss in Boots." There was a similar fairy tale called "Seven at one blow". Limitless is really just an updated version of that type of story. I think that the moral of this type of story is not "Work hard and you will succeed" but rather "Study hard and you will succeed."

Life span in the US is behind European life span at every level of income until you get to the very to 2 or 3% of incomes. The American chase for more money is in reality a race for your life.

Wait wait wait

I AM A “HARDCORE LIMITLESS FAN” 😂❤🎉

also brilliant video

Also “he tries to get rich on the stock market” is a gross oversimplification of Eddie Morra’s ultimate goal, which is implied to be something much bigger about 1/3 of the way through the film.

He continues to provide hints that either (a) he really is gathering resources and power to do something great for the world (e.g. the rice he shares with Brian Finch in early season one of the show), or (b) that he’s up to something more intricate, totalitarian, and sinister (as Piper implies in “The Assassination of Eddie Morra”). I love that his ultimate motivations are never disclosed, and what an intriguing & quality series that would’ve been had it continued!

Meanwhile, thanks for cueing me in to the existence of the sequel! I’m excited to read it and the prequel soon 😊

Unfortunately, there is no longer as much of a desire to work hard in America. Secondly, we have no fixation with "work" some ppl are genetically geared towards being productive and building which is why we get to live so leisurely to begin with. Those ppl with obsessive tendencies and tend to be on the higher end of the IQ spectrum tend to become extremely wealthy. The money isn't going to make them stop being themselves as its genetic. Laziness is also gentic.

Neo- liberalism isn't capitalism or free market but the opposite. It's more like crony capitalsm or an oligarchy if you want to be technical, so it's the opposite and it has definitely destroyed the capitalist system as we know it. Capitalism is by far the best economic system for most ppl. We play this game where we complain over socialism but pretend it's communism that's the problem. Very interesting, this obsession ppl have

I don't think it is a particularly true take? Like, closest I've ever been to the USA was 6000 km, yet the possibility of the drug existing enticed me as well.
I think this movie is just a power fantasy, only the intellectual one - rather than "what if there was a way to be so strong nobody could threaten me" it's "what if there was a way to make me ten times smarter and productive so that I could've accomplish all the goals I always wanted".
I was surprised that this film actually had a franchise, though.
