I think that Aaron's race to put the censer someplace quickly to save so many lifes, is paralleled by the staffs of dead sticks placed in the Holy area and the one with Aaron inscribed then having the full cycle of life, of almonds, burst out from it.

Rabbi Chaim Richman, I think the red heifer is the symbolism of the bride of Moshiach, the wife/The New Jerusalem.
