Ouch..... This accustical overload would drive me crazy....also all the concrete as far as you are able to look, all these people. I'm tired already. 😅
I could not live there. Gives me a headache and wears me out totally. It must be torture for Japanese autistic people, to deal with this on a daily level. - Glad that you enjoy yourself. 🙂

Just got back from 10 days in Japan with my hubby and my 2 year old to visit his family. Important lesson learned: DO NOT take your little ones on the Tokyo metro during the hours between 5-7pm. We made that mistake coming back from harajuku and were absolutely smooshed. I had to hold my sleeping toddler and had a Japanese salaryman have to put her blanket back on her when it fell off bc my hands were literally full. 😂 Do yourselves a favor and just take a taxi during those hours or plan to be home already.

I frequently watch a live stream showing the train track leading to the main station in Tokyo. The have 6 normal tracks and 2 high speed tracks there. And there is a train going by about every 10 seconds! If they would try that here in Germany, it would take about 5 minutes until everything comes to grinding halt. Because some train is late, then other have to wait, and because of that more have to wait and so on. The German Deutsche Bahn cals a train delayed if its more than 10 minutes late or so. If a Japanese train is 5 minutes late, the train driver breaks down in tears and wants to commit suicide. Not to mention cleanliness in the trains and such things...

Welcome to my busy neighbourhood of Shinjuku/Shibuya! 🙂 It's great using apps like Google Maps and always making connections on time (versus the increasingly common delays of DB in Germany), and if you know your exit number there's generally lots of signs pointing the right way. Looking forward to seeing your experiences with the Shinkansen or the nice limited express trains to places like Hakone/Atami/Shimoda (though reminder for the Shinkansen toward Osaka/Kyoto that if you take large luggage you need to reserve a free spot for the luggage ahead of time).

We're almost at plum blossom season, starting mid-February

Marissa, if you ever travel the rail lines with just yourself and your daughters, use those pink train cars (which are for women and girls only) whenever possible. Yes, I know that one may not think it fair that men and boys over 12 aren't allowed on those (alas not all men riding on trains are gentlemen like Tanner) . However, they're not as crowded as the regular train cars and you & your little one could use less crowding whenever possible.
Great vid showing the Tokyo-Yokohama area train system and you and Tanner gave some good tips on how to navigate the zillions of different lines and the labyrinths that stations often have (and I look forward to watching your impressions of Tokyo Disney to say nothing of exploring Tokyo San and Yokohama [e.g.check out the Chinatown there])! Thanks!

You should visit Okinawa. It's called the Hawaii of Japan - very beautiful. Although there is a big US military presence. Okinawa was returned to Japan only in 1972 after WW2.🤓

I LOVE riding the Japanese trains (the du-dun du-dun sounds, the quietness, even the train station music because it feels so nostalgic to me every time etc.). Especially because I'm German at least by my passport and moved here over 30 years ago. My mum usually falls asleep, even when she is standing (she is Japanese and grew up in Tokyo).

At first I thought it was all in one day and I was thinking, how did you end up going the right way to Maihama and then end up further away 😂 when you got to Shibuya I realised😂.
I find the Navitime by Japan Travel app much better for trains.

The forest is most likely the "Shinjuku Gyoen" park. It's a paid park with a Starbucks. It is a very nice park.
The Shibuya station is very not easy to understand right now. I mean they bulldoze a build that is the station build without shutting down the station ... I mean, it's crazy.

Tokyo has still a lot of rather classic/old trains running (fat seats/pillows, (wooden ring) holding (like the old Indian trains)) - gives me some classic vibes. Those old fat seats are not very economic but very comfy! Tokyo/Japan as such has a lot of 70-80ties like profane architecture but thanks to its size and many diverse lively urban/metropolis hotspots (and here and there other more intersting architecture beween modern and old) it is a really fascinating city. yep, the trains in Japan are (thanks to own tracks) usually very punctual, but in difference to Germany the regions are less connected. very good in the metropole area (except a few bad designed lines), not as good the more regional you get (and those are also getting more into deficits due to the combination of a shrinking demographics and ore urbanization especially of the youth (like global) ...

Oh my goodness, my anxiety went through the roof just seeing all those foreign signs, crowds, trains, and tunnels😂 Very interesting to see. Even though it doesn't look like it, it's probably all very well organised and smooth running. For me though, a 62 Yr old Oma living alone, much too overwhelming and way out of my comfort zone🙈😅
Is Willa in Kindergarten there or not yet? I'm curious to see how she picks up the language❤

You may have already noticed but Japanese children take their shoes off if they are climbing on the seats in the train. Also make sure your backpack is in front of you if you are on a packed train because you don't want to hit someone if you turn around.

Yeah, Tokyo is insane. I was up on Tokyo tower taking pictures of the cityscape going clockwise around the platform...at some point I was like, "wait a minute...", checked my photos, and noticed that I was on my second trip around. The city stretches to the horizon in every direction. You could spend your whole life there and not see everything because, by the time you've seen the last thing the beginning is entirely new. It's fascinating and exhausting, endlessly exiting and mundane all at the same time.
