Tongariro National Park - great alternative to the Alpine Crossing

We're in the beautiful Tongariro National Park on the north Island of New Zealand and are hiking the Waitonga Falls trail. An out and back walk with snow capped volcanic mountains, forest paths, river crossings and a spectacular waterfall! Together with the Taranaki Falls trail, we think these two hikes are great alternatives to the popular Alpine Crossing.
