About what the ref did: Cullen didn't give a shit and was unaffected to whatever Rodriguez was doing. There is no reason for the ref to interrupt the game and moan when the players are having a normal match.

So apparantly he stood in the exclusion zone when Joe was throwing, but only by a little. The ref is within his rights to let the player know, but during a leg, disrupting the rhythm of the player, is just weird. Joe said it made no difference to him, and it clearly was making no difference whatsoever, so the ref should have taken note of that and just left it for after the match.

What happened first, and how is it related to him missing the board? He missed because he knew he was going to lose.
