Your Boss Fight point immediately reminded me of OG RE 3's Clock Tower Nemesis fight. I havent come across a better boss fight in the entire series. And this makes the remake's take on it all the more disappointing.

You are justified how you feel, Critical Nobody! Although, the first criticism is not exactly true, since how much ammunition you need to waste on Birkin battles somewhat depends on which parts of his body you are hitting. But other than that, I wholeheartedly agree with you.

By the way, one of my own additional criticisms of the remake version is its music. I didn't know that you can purchase and download the original soundtrack of the game, but I agree that it should have been used from the get go, in one form or another. There even are glimpses of rearrangements of the original music in the game, but for some reason, they are used very sparsely. Other than that, most of the time there even is no music in the background, and when there is, it sucks. What a shame.

I'm surprised about you 8/10 grade for the remake. Personally, I would give it 7 at most.

Dude. I started with remake and when I came back from the holidays and bought the OG from a Frank n sons. And I wanted to play both games back and forth but it was frustrating since I was lost. So I finished the remake first and I’m currently playing the OG and I was pissed they butchered some of the characters and how less twistedely dark it was. I love the remake no doubt it’s like 8/10. OG is more 9/10. Bc there’s was little details that made remake more on money than love

I could not agree more. The fact that A and B's don't compliment each other, I've never went back and played the game again and that's sad because I played through the original at least 100 times as a kid.

Instead, I am also a disappointed fan who expected more from the remake. While Re2make might be a good game in its own right, I am saddened to say I cannot get behind it as a remake comparable to OG.

In the 5+ years since this game was released, it has aged like a zombie with me. Especially after Re4make's release, which I thought was a vast improvement over 2 and 3's remakes in every regard.

You are not alone in your criticisms of Re2make. Personally, I would say to just skip it and go on to Re4's Remake. But that's just me.

One gripe I have with modern RE "fans" or players is how they defend the realism of the new entries, the omission of the lore, place and behavior the originals, and that this remakes are better than than the og. That old fans are just being toxic and ahould take the noatalgia glasses

I don't know about you guys but it's not that hard if we only fire on their weekspot. The only boss that I died was with 3rd incounter with William 2nd playthrough with Claire since her weapons are week as hell. Leon Smooth sailing didn't die once with all the bosses including Mr X/Tyrant.

Nobody cares about the outdated janky ps1 game. Imagine tank controls with fixed camera in this day and age. The scenario system in the original was a mess, Capcom was two steps ahead by removing that.

Chief Brian dies even better in Claire B scenario.

I remember being so disappointed by chief irons death compared to the original, but honestly, the PS1 one was pretty unrealistic lol. I dont think a parasite would be able to rip you open like that

To this day REmake remains the definitive version of RE1. No other remake has come close to duplicating this feat. REmake 2 and REmake 3 are perfectly good games, but they lack things that you can only get in their originals.

Yeah, Birkin is WAAAY too spongy in the remake. Ruined my Hardcore run cuz even if i pick everything up in the arena, I still don't have enough ammo to beat him in the first fight with Leon. I agree with your points, overall though, I love the remake and think they did a fantastic job with it.

I played both the original and the remake a lot, probably too much. It's pretty simple the only thing the remakes do better is the graphics. The camera perspective and the shooting could also be seen as better but that is more subjective from person to person. The story was crap, the characters were crap, the writing was crap and they cut out about half the game. Both 3 and 2 remake are great games but they aren't even close to the originals. They are cut down and hollowed out versions of the originals.

That's funny, I said the same thing about RE4 when it originally came out on Gamecube, and that still holds true today.
I agree with most of this review, but this 2019 RE2 remake is still lightyears better than RE4, and so are all of the classic REs.

The only problem I had with the remake was Ada's introduction. She looked like an 80's call girl.

According to RE4R, Leon's 1st run is canon, he remembers meeting Marvin. In myhead canon Claire just lollygagged with Sherry and fought 4th and 5th Birkin battles.

as someone who played Remake first and then the original later 1 year in between i'll just say, for as much as i enjoyed RE2 Remake... the Original was better/more fun to me.

I literally just want a one for one remake of RE2 1998 just with modern graphics....RE2 Remake had so many missing areas and enemy types. The B scenarios were trash compared to the original.

This game almost entirely lacked the original “vibes” or charm of the original to me. As did RE3 remake. I don’t think the remakes were bad games-but absolutely lacked the core heart and soul of the originals. I guess it’s hard for me to put into the right words maybe but old school RE just had this “thing”…a vibe. I suppose I miss that. I’m also still butt hurt and bitter that we never really got the true resolution to fighting against Umbrella that the originals were all building up to. RE4 was released and their like “Umbrella..oh nah they’re gone. Yeah they’re not around anymore. No the govt bankrupted them in the stock market. You can forget about them.”

While I prefer the remake I think the original was great and the things taken out were unnecessary

In regards to the crane fight, you can actually knock him down in one crane hit, you just need to do enough damage. The knife works wonders.
