“THPS2X wont make you a fan of the series”

me, whose first owned game was THPS2X and whose love for the series grew with said game: And I took that personally

It’s worth noting that there’s nothing to do in THUGPRO. No goals. Just high scores that you can’t really save and online mode.

I just picked up thps 2x last month since not playing it in over 20 years, and after playing all versions and ports, dreamcast included, It's the best one to go back to if you love thps2. I liked most of the bonus levels, the graphics were great and the controls felt more refined. The only problem I had with it is that the soundtrack for thps1 was not included, but if I go back to the originals in the future not including the current remake, I would choose 2x overall.

Part of me wonders with ALL the Robomodo games of Tony Hawk, I just have two questions: 1) WHAT…THE…FUCK were they smoking at the time to think having glitchy games was ok, and 2) why didn’t they learn their fucking lessons and STOP the glitchy ones for HD and 5 so they could be SOMEWHAT playable? Big head mode etc. still is NOT fun with all the glitches!

I really love thps3 and thps4 on the psx. I have a games room with 12 consoles but really like having a psx in my lounge. I guess i'm more nostalgic about the psx graphics, the look and feel of the controller and a guess my age. By the time the ps2 was out titties and weed and actually skating rather than being on the couch. still love the ps2 ports but the psx ones are always in the lounge. next to dave mirra and mat hoffman

It's funny, when I played all the OG THPS games, I did so on the PSX! I didn't play any next gen ones till Underground on the PS2 and Proving Ground on the PS3. Didn't realise the PS2 versions were so different!

To be honest, the PS1 versions of 3 and 4 were what I played when a kid. I think I was aware of the PS2 version of THPS3, but by time I got around to owning a PS2, I was playing Underground 2. It was only 3 or so years ago that I first played 3 and 4 on the PS2. Going from PS1 to PS2 with those two games is the same for me as going from PS2 to PS1 is for others.

I would argue with pro skater 4 they scaled back objectives in order to make less compromises on the maps themselves

Well in defense of THPS4 PS1, this is more along the lines of Activision messing it up, rather than the devs (Thank you V.V. for 1+2). Keep in mind, the pro skater 4 levels are likely much bigger in comparison to the ones that came before it (at least from what I have seen), so maybe space for more interactive gameplay was unavailable. Not to mention, V.V. likely didn't get as many resources to work with compared to Neversoft since this is basically Pro Skater 4: Affordable edition, as well as not enough time, I guess. 5th gen THPS3 worked as it basically had the same gameplay style/objective count as 2, just like 6th gen 3, albeit with less interactive levels because of limitations. Won't work here since in the ps2 versions, the levels on average have over twice as many objectives compared to the classic ones (THPS 2/3 levels). And with the simpler level design, I guess more needed to be added to at least keep the format somewhat similar. And considering that the PS1 port needed to be done by the time the real versions, some corners had to be cut. At least visually speaking, the levels are more distinct from one another, taking place at different times of day rather than the 6th gen versions, where all of them but carnival are set in midday (at least one plus you have to give this port for).
TLDR: Blame the company that green-lighted this port, not the devs. The devs tried to the best they could to make this game, but it wasn't ever meant for the ps1. It's a miracle it even plays like a Tony Hawk game not counting objectives. It's a mediocrity, I'll admit, just a sympathetic one.
P.S. Love your content, nevertheless, you are a good man. Just trying to find reason as to why this game was like this.

You know what I’m surprised about?
I’m surprised that Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 5th-gen version was rated higher than Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2X!
If the Xbox remake had several fixes, it would have been ranked much higher! Good thing that we have the other Neversoft entries, because there’s so much that you can do in these games!
I’m sad about Pro Skater 4’s PS1 port getting a 4/10, but I can’t blame anyone.

As for Tony Hawk’s Underground Pro, I never knew about this one, and even recently, is shockingly amazing!!

When THP4 came out I had no chance to buy a PS2 so the PS1 version was all that I had and it was extremely fun for me, I wouldn't say that should not exist, that game made poor kids happy, and since its the same gameplay feeling as the classics it deserves a better score on the rank, the music in that game its just amazing, I would give solid 7.5
