I’ve played drums for 30 years and can remember when I was playing a lot of metal music that required a lot of double bass, my shin muscles were MASSIVE, like disproportionate to the rest of my leg. Look at a drummers lower leg next time if he is wearing shorts

Over a year after its uploaded I am late to the party.
One method I do is :

Sit on a bench, heels are just barely on the end of a bench. Take a dumbell and pinch it with my feets. Reps from there. It can be dont sitting on a bench ready in a sitting up position.
To make it more difficult, lie flat on my back. More difficult than previous, use your hands to hoist your upper body up, full on isolation work.

i started doing these (120lbs bw), went from doing 20 pounds for 8 to currently 55 pounds for 12 per leg using a machine, I have a feeling im doing it wrong because the weight to bw ratio is really high but i am seeing big benefits 😂

Take cattlebell stanting. Load the leg toes. Put heel on the edge of bench. Fix it with rubber band,hal thru the hole(cattlebell)...hook both sides back on heel from inside and outside of foot.

"Concentrate rather on strength than hypertrophy" How can you train one without training the other? Stronger muscles are bigger and bigger muscles are stronger, generally speaking. The only difference rep range makes is whether or not you're good at lifing a very heavy weight a few times or a lightly lighter weights a few more times and the amount of recovery cost you incur (higher weights = more strain)

interesting, im going to give this a go. Ive been doing 20 reps with 10kg on a tib bar as I thought it was about the reps not the strength. Going to try and do the smaller rep range now.

I recently got switch to a physio who told me, "well, when I hit 40 I just started to notice that things hurt more...".

Dude obviously doesn't like money.

3 months of squats and deadlifts later and I can now lay on my right side (almost pain free) and walking, sitting and standing are completely pain free (as long as I don't get lazy and sit too much at least).
