I think there are 4 main things you must do while making a scape pod: 1 make it fast to access and launch, you don’t want to stay for too long in a spaceship that is being scrapped by guns in the middle of space. 2 make it compact, it shouldn’t occupy too much space and also you will need a lot of them, so they should be cheap to produce and small to also make sure they are hard to hit by enemy fire. 3 make sure that the pod has food, oxigen, water and anything else you need to stay alive for a while, as well as making sure it allows the person to leave the pod and enter freely in space, you don’t want to land on planets because 90% of them will kill you almost instantly. 4 make sure it has a radio or anything else that makes it easier for your people to find you, you don’t want to stay stranded in space for too long
Ответитьcan you do a video of how you would design an escape pod?
ОтветитьCan't forget the escape pods from Serenity that you need to jump into and slide in like a waterslide
ОтветитьProbably intentional to make a stupid escape pod…the movie was partly a parody on fascism after all.
ОтветитьStarship Troopers showed us a lot of stuff and that is that their world is basically if Nazi Germany and Japan took over and we are hit with propaganda and they conscript hopefuls and they are sent into a war with little to no real intel and they get put into the meat grinder that gets over 100,000 people killed in 1 hour due to piss poor planning and tactical formation.
ОтветитьI've been thinking about a lifeboat/escape pod that has a jump drive. One with preset cords for a friendly post.
ОтветитьPerhaps we should call them "death pods" instead
ОтветитьPersonally, I like the idea of short range engines on escape pods so they have just enough maneuverability to get away from the worst of the wreckage or potential hazards.
You don’t need to make it to a planet, but I’d rather get clear of a potential explosion or debris field that could crush me.
If I ever designed a ship and pods, I’d make sure they could maneuver well over short distances and have some redundancy for survival.
In ST defense dying for the federation was encouraged and the norm
ОтветитьDaniel, during my childhood I woke up early on saturdays because of a series called Starship Tropper Chronicles. It was a CGI version of the movie, which was aimed to I think nobody else than me at the time but I absolutely loved it and recorded a lot of episodes to vdieo cassette. I recently rewatched a small portion of it and it looked like you could get some material to review from there, even if the story itself is kind of child-designed. Also it was first time I saw the suit of these soldiers, that I later identified similarities with Halo and Mass effect suits. I do not think the ship designs match with those in the movie, but I would love to see at least one video from the CGI series.
ОтветитьIf you think about it, it makes sense that the ships would have those design flaws. The civilization in Starship Troopers depends on maintaining its patriotic fervor and military mentality, so the design of the ships and weapons prioritizes the cool factor. Competition is also heightened, even in the attempt to survive, in order to prevent soldiers from stepping out of line.
ОтветитьIf you think the drop-pods from halo are confusing you should check out the real life CH-60 Blackhawk, specifically the engineering of the pilot and co-pilot seats.
ОтветитьThe entire pod is a contradiction from the start - first you see one fall off the rails and tap the wall sideways at far less than running speed - potentially just barely above a gentle stroll - and somehow immediately blow up and kill the two occupants inside despite definitely not even taking enough force to really put much of a dent in the plate metal of the pod's side or engine cowling. And yet it can also literally slam itself into a mountain so hard and fast it ricochets for miles , survive that and then punch right through another mountain (it might be hollow inside, but that cave wall was still pretty thick solid rock) bounce off the cave wall inside and then slam nose first to a dead stop into the wall opposite - and both the craft and the crew were absolutely fine. Like ... wut???!!!
How can it be both the weakest vehicle ever made and the literal strongest at the same time ?!?!?!?!?!
Human life just has very little value in the fascist society of Starship Troopers
ОтветитьI thought there where more pods lined up behind the one you see.
ОтветитьHaving on board engines is definitely good for an escape pod, while yes you want to remain near a ship for search and rescue to find you AFTER a battle, during a battle you'd be best off heading to your ships if possibly, this ship also seems more like it's supposed to take care of important personal, so the abylity to get them out as soon as they need to is vital, while the low importance personal would get more economical, and less rapid and rely on getting picked up by other ships
ОтветитьThose are not escape pods. Those are "bento" boxes " (two servings) for the bugs. 😁
ОтветитьIt’s a move ! Get over it dude!
Ответить👍
Ответитьthe atlantis movie has great escape pods on the submarine
ОтветитьAs soon as I saw the title of this vid I thought of those Starship Troopers pods.
ОтветитьI miss Daniel. lol
Ответитьthat👏is👏the👏point👏of👏the👏movie.
"The movie shows what would go wrong with this design" YEAH CAUSE THAT'S THE POINT MANNNN.
I would like to point out they followed the United Federation of Planets Star Fleet thinking of NOT having the simplest of safety features.
Seat Belts!!!
Correction, they're not escape pods. They're suicidal, guided, piloted missiles that happen to function as escape pods in the event of an emergency. Due to their insane durability, rail and rocket system, it's the only reasonable explanation.
ОтветитьYou know I think Halo at least has an excuse for the drop pod thing. The Spartan armor is demonstrably capable of surviving re-entry all on its own, all the pod's there for is a bit of extra ablative armor on the way down, and something to keep ground forces from immediately pummeling the spartan that just landed.
ОтветитьTo be fair, you do need to give an escape pod SOME way of rapidly getting away from the exploding ship, but a simple spring or canister of compressed gas would do the job fine. I do agree that this is one of the dumbest escape pods ever.
ОтветитьI'm going to be honest the escape pod going off the track and exploding was the funniest shit I've seen in days! lol XD
Ответитьthe only reason I could see an escape pod having engines is if it had an FTL ability (Starfleet lifeboats circa DS9 do for instance I believe) at least that makes sense, you aren't waiting for search and rescue, you are just going to jump the place that you needed to go to get help.
ОтветитьSorry pick a nit here, but the room holding the escape pods clearly goes much further than just the first three pods. In the background of some scenes you play on repeat in here, you can actually see a fourth pod, beyond the third flashing as it exits via the tube. Also, on the outside of the vessel you can see the row of doors goes further down than just three.
It's probably something exactly as useless as three pods for a ship this size, but that detail gets harped on and is just getting the number wrong.
If anything, its an EVEN bigger, more useless room, and everything you are saying is made even worse by there being more than just 3. But there are more than just 3 pods.
I remember a D20 where it mentioned escape pods came in two main varieties. First was the classic barrel. Had enough food and water for three people to last a week I think. The other was much bigger and deemed a "lifeboat" that had enough supplies for 10 people to last nearly a month and a decent sublight engine, so you could reach a planet so long as it wasn't on the far side of the system you were in.
ОтветитьMeanwhile, on Federation starships: just literally find an empty Photon Torpedo, load yourself in, and fired. 🤔
ОтветитьStarship Troopers is a selfconsciously silly movie, there's no point criticising it for not making sense - that's deliberate!
ОтветитьTo be fair, I don't get the impression the Federation places all that much value on human lives.
ОтветитьHaving tiny rockets is actually a good idea I think. I really like the take Clone wars has on it with the 4 tiny rockets. It would make sense since when you need to escape there is the very real possibility that there is no power. Likely they would therefore also have a mechanic hook keeping them in place. They are kept in place with electro magnets for the most part to keep them snugly secure and keep them from rattling around and stuff. But when the power fails they can't just all fall out.
Actually one good thing in the movie is the breakaway panel. That would also be another good way to prevent them from falling out but still make them usable without power. It actually is the exact same way missile silo's work on submarines. They are engineered to break in a very specific way when the missile strikes them. Also their domed shape means they are very strong one way but not the other. It's very hard to break into them but very easy to break out of them.
Rock, Paper, Scissors or arm wrestle to decide who gets to escape the ship?
ОтветитьI think starwars escape pods are they best :)
ОтветитьMan the clone war escape pods were better then the rocket pod
ОтветитьThe Stupidest Ever and Starship Troopers lines up well.
ОтветитьDaniel from Spacedock doesn't know anything about escape pods. You would absolutely NOT want to remain close to the wrecked spaceship for fear of further explosions and flying debris damaging your pod. You would want to get away and broadcast a distress signal. Also, resources on the pod may be limited so you'd like the pod to be able to get to an inhabitable planet if possible. I do agree that the escape pod launch room and the design of these pods in particular, is pretty weak. Cheers! :)
ОтветитьYup, I thought they were idiotic as well. Well what about how stupid they are in the battle ships as they watch those blue blobs slowly come up at them and not get out of the way?
ОтветитьRewatching the movie, you can kinda see another escape pod already leaving in the background so that’s a whole 2 more people.
ОтветитьThat game has bugs - big ones
Ответитьthis reminds me of that one scene in star trek nemesis where picard was flying that shuttle
ОтветитьU know why? Bcz Starship Troopers is awesome, that’s why.
Ответить'Rocket powered, glass, go kart, 2 man escape pods are not an effective means of evacuating an exploding spaceship.' How did you deadpan that mad lib? Its like a jumble of words you only hear together as background talk in a sci-fi arcade. 😂
ОтветитьWorst Spacepod design ever. Sulaco's in Alien 3...?
ОтветитьIt’s simple, really. The escape pods are for protagonists only.
ОтветитьWe are analyzing/criticizing the escape pods of a federation utopian nation that is happy to send hundreds of thousands of people into a massacre walls of bugs with no concern.
The whole point is the federation doesn’t care about its militaries long terms safety. They just want to make them feel like they are safe. Kind of like the titanic lol.
