Really cool video. As a follow up video you could try to recast all the animals with more temporal accurate species during the K-Pg extinction

If there's one thing commendable about this movie, is it's decision to include so much B-Tier Taxa.
The art book showed much more recognizable dinos but the movie gave the spotlight to a lot of lesser knowns

I loved this movie growing up, I was (and admittedly still am) a huge dinosaur nerd. According to my mom, I would shock people at the age of four by telling them about Pachycephalosaurus and pronouncing it better than they could, probably some foreshadowing onto my later obsession with linguistics.

What's interesting to me, is if they were to remake this movie today with more scientific accuracy, the villains could've been giant Quetzalcoatluses and Utahraptors, which were basically giant raptors. Also there was a fairly large Sauropod living in America during the late Cretaceous known as Alamosaurus.

Well this is something that all movies that use an extinction scene do, because its more dramatic to see the debastation unfolding.

But in reality, all life close enough to see the impact would have been volatilized* instantly. Gone in a flash.

Good video! And nice work, though it’s to note he Britannica reconstruct is not accurate for Iqunadon. I recommend for more accurate reconstructions Fabio, James Ashworth, Jose Miguel Guella, have better displacement and reconstructs which give around 13m and 3 tons Also btw it also only lived in early Cretaceous Europe so ye

Awesome video! I hadn't heard about microceratops's name change. Good to know.

The one thing that I was going to point out on this, (if I remember this correctly) despite most viewers and even a few of the 'Disney's Dinosaur' books saying that the meteor was the one that eventually killed the dinos, it wasn't. That was the original plan, but it was scrapped during the planning process, so the one shown in the movie wasn't THE meteor, it was just a random one. Taking that into consideration means that it's not necessarily taking place at the end of the Cretaceous period. It also makes the story and ending much happier.

Im gonna give you some helpful information to help you a little bit :D
1. Aladar, Neera, and a majority of the herd are Iguanodon, however its usually stated that Kron and Bruton are the similar Altirhinus. I think Neera is only Krons Sister by adoption. This explains the difference in nose shape between Kron and Bruton and all of the other male iguanodon we see in the movie.
2.Iguanodon used to be thought to be native to all those places, but I think the current consensus is that they were European only. All those other Iguanodon species have been reassigned to new species by now I think.
3. I have never heard of Brachiosaurus itself being found in Europe, but probably close relatives.
4: The hell is that pronunciation of Euoplocephalus???

I like to imagine that the asteroid in the movie is smaller than the chicxulub asteroid and didn't cause a global catastrophe, and that the mainland was already a barren desert

Really nice video! So glad to see this favorite film of mine getting the attention it deserves. However, there are some inaccuracies in this video.

a. While the family Iguanodon belongs to did live across the globe for a good portion of the Mesozoic, Iguanodon itself is only known from Early Cretaceous deposits in Europe.

a. Centrosaurus sadly does not appear in the movie, judging by the shape of the skull and nose horn, that skeleton actually belongs to its contemporary Chasmosaurus.

c. While oviraptorosaurs are known from North America and Asia, Oviraptor itself is only known from Mongolia, and was named by the same man who named Velociraptor and Tyrannosaurus - Henry Fairfield Osborne.

My favorite were ceratopsians.
Caron means Meat
Vore Means to eat
Tauros means Bull.
As there is no Vore in Carnotaurus, the name literally means Meat Bull, Not meat eating bull

So, right off the bat, all valid species of Iguanodon are restricted to Europe in the Early Cretaceous, with the other globally (and temporally) distributed ones having been reassigned to new genera. Also the "Centrosaurus" skull looks more like a Chasmosaurus to me.

Also, I always wondered why there were photos online of a T .rex - Carnotaurus skeleton mashup. Now I know, so thanks for that!

I could see dinosaurs surviving for awhile on the further continents like Antarctica and Asia... but Iguanodon on Appalachia or what I strongly assume is Laramidia? :^) Not to mention at ground-zero, anything that could visibly watch Chicxulub touch the surface would be le-poof.

The thing I remember most about this film is the weird hand-puppets...

My favourite thing in the movie is having a herbivore for a villain. Carnivores aren't killers by choice, but a herbivore who hurts others and kills is better for a villain because they chose violence when they didn't have to.

I've always loved this fictional version of Carnotaurus, it's such a beast, it would give the Tyrannosaurs from the Jurassic franchise a run for their money. While I'm glad Carnotaurus did eventually appear onscreen in that franchise in Fallen Kingdom, it didn't get much chance to shine, as on two occasions it was slapped around by the larger Tyrannosaur. I feel a way to make this species stand out more in the franchise would have been to give them their chameleon ability like they had in The Lost World novel. Capable of hiding easily and allowing prey to walk too close before they ambushed them. It would have made a great species to bridge the gap between the smaller Velociraptors and the larger Tyrannosaur threats. The Indominus Rex did get this camouflage ability in Jurassic World but I think it was only ever utilised once. The animated series of Camp Cretaceous though does give Carnotaurus more screen time, with one particular animal known as Toro being probably the main dinosaur antagonist in season 1 of the show. Great video, I always feel the movie Dinosaur is often underrated and forgotten about by most casual audiences if not us dino nerds. The scene of the meteor impact is still one of my favourite depictions of the event I've ever seen, and the scene in the cave at night when the Carnotaurs are investigating the entrance to the cave and slowing poking it's head through the water is still chilling.

You know, Disney's Dinosaur's plot is too identical to Universal's The Land Before Time.
Don't say that LBT was sugar-coated because it wasn't. What you're thinking of is the sequels. The first movie is actually quite dark, suspenseful, and filled with tragedy. I'd say darker than Disney's Dinosaur.
