Ok, I feel like I’m missing something. If they were going to send the girl up as a message, wouldn’t that imply she would be out of that place? Which would imply anyone of them could just hop on the platform and ride it up to escape?? How did no one think to do that and just carry a weapon up with them?

The message itself is girl. As she was on the LOWER MOST floor and the administration might not know about the conditions that the lower most people had to face. So when the girl from the lower most went up in deadly conditions that wud hv given thm a message

The ending is. that the top never understood the message, in the middle of the movie when the master chefs got the desser back he was looking for who's hair was it, and who to blame on, not himself or the system. just like how society is now. No self accountability.

This movie explains a lot like how rich people get everything they want but if they gets greedy they can die (one guy fell from top cz he drank too much alcohol) people in mid gets all the leftover that means they have to adjust just like real life and the people in the bottom they have to fight or sometime kill someone to get food in real life there are peoples who kill others to get money this movie explains how society works

Loved this movie but the ending is up to different interpretations. Was the child real? Was the woman real? If she was real, how would she be able to get off the platform when it was back at her level?
Why did the chefs take such care to create these lavish meals and prepare the settings so carefully? Was it one big social experiment to see if everyone would cooperate as a collective or be selfish and take more than what they needed? Makes me wonder if they were using it as a means to test theories such as communism or socialism in extremely strict circumstances with a control group.

IDK WHAT IS THIS
IDK WHAT IS THIS - 07.06.2023 19:51

Brief theory. The head chef as well as the other chefs are separate from the organization operating this. However, the head chef is aware of who they were cooking for. Now he is used to all the meals being finished potentially for inaccurate reasoning. When he sees the dessert come back with the hair he assumes it is because the people were in disgust of it and he reasons with that as he does not know how animalistic and crazy the people have gotten and rather he thinks that they are all civilised. A metaphor for misinterpretation and refraining people that do the work from the truth.

Here is an extensive analysis that does a pretty good job-

There are ultimately two possible endings:

Ending 1: The pannacotta hair scene does, in fact, happen at the end of the film after the protagonists "succeed". All scenes following the death of the child's mother are hallucinated. This is further irony in the story as it's the very ignorance and misinterpretation of the higher-ups that cause them to not understand the message, and shows the true nature of humanity even more, in a holistic way to tie it all up after Goreng essentially "failed" to solve "The Platform" but through his imagination only do we think he did. Several clues (the aftermath of the fight with the strong men, the book somehow appearing at the bottom, the hot/cold in the child's room not appearing, and him imagining the dead Trimagasi and Imoguiri) support the idea of Goreng's hallucination. The child is only a hallucination and symbol of hope in Goreng's mind. However, the fact that the lady who spoke with certainty of there not being a child and there being only 200 levels was wrong, contradicts this as it foreshadows the actual existence of the child.

Ending 2: the Pannacota scene in which the chef sees the hair in the Pannacota happens at the chronological point of the movie indicating the supreme elegance and effort put into the luxurious banquet that Floor 1 receives. The child unfortunately is smashed into the ceiling due to the immediate stopping of the platform (The smashing into the ceiling is questionable, whether or not it decelerates or not, or if the director/writer deems it relevant in the symbolic context of the ending). This horrifies the chefs the next day, leading to furious questioning of what's going on down there, and ultimately change as people are unaware. An altered version of this ending is the message being received with the girl as Goreng intended and the concept of the platform being fulfilled, that humans are intrinsically not greedy and sinful, as the child (symbol for innocence and purity) was saved and brought up from all the way down.

The themes of capitalism and communism emerge but are only extensions of the main symbols and themes of greed, purity, insanity, and protest.

Overall, the ending is very vague and ambiguous. The true answer is: it's up to you for whatever makes more sense. Was Goreng imagination a fallacy and the ending much darker, or did he achieve what he intended to, to complete "The Platform"? Is humanity intrinsically evil, greedy, and impure, or within all our issues is humanity truly pure, moral, and worthy, and capable of a fair world?

Goreng not only represents an idealistic intellectual. He represents the character of Don Quixote, a book by Miguel de Cervantes (written in 1605). Don Quixote was a cultivated man whose ideals were based in solidarity, chivalry, defense of the poor and oppressed, and self-sacrifice. It is no coincidence that he takes the book of Don Quixote as his personal object to the prison and he resembles historical depictions of the character - bony and elongated face, curly blonde hair, thin moustache and goatee, and tired and traumatized facial expression. The majority of the Spanish-speaking public, having been exposed to the story of Don Quixote, saw automatically how this was not a coincidence.

I don't think people realized that the actual ending is much more brutal than it is.

Here's some weird clues to how terrible the ending could've been:

First, is the obvious one. Whereas the last room DOESN'T get hot nor cold when the panna was removed from the platform. Weird detail isn't it?

Second, is the fact that when they reached the floor, the plot kept panning at dreams. Dreams of the old man alive, and the black dude alive as well. Even though both of them are dead.

Third, the old man is seen to be supporting Goreng at the bottom when the child was being brought up. Saying that Goren is not needed to help the message to go up. So Goreng basically left with the old man. Which, is dead.

Fourth, is the weird detail associating the young woman looking for her child. Think about it, she keeps going down the platform every month and had returned for almost 3 times during the film. Meaning she must've reached the very bottom of the floor each time just to be flung back up to do it all again. There is no way that she misses her child at the very bottom of the floor.

Fifth, is the fourth reason is supported by the idea that the woman with a dog KEPT saying that the administration is STRICT with their rule set. We can see this with how annoyed the head chef was when there is a piece of hair stuck on the Panna. They're meant to create and cook top quality food and gave no bias towards any inmate. Even former workers. There's basically no way an actual child was below the floor.

And lastly, is how weird the ending was. As if it didn't end with a full disclosure. What happens to the child after reaching the top? Is the entire platform over as everyone basically did their job to pass the message showing that they did their job to cooperate with each other? What happened to Goreng afterwards? Did he get a reward for what he did?

If you still don't piece it all together, the very last few parts were all hallucinations. Goreng and the black dude died. The child was a hallucination. Everything in the ending was a dream. And only the Panna made it back up to the top. The child symbolizes false hope that Goreng wanted to believe. Hence why he was comforted by the old man. Coz they are both dead. This is why there's no further confirmation of what happens next. Because in Goreng's view, that's all the confirmation he needs to be at peace.

Since I am a Muslim: whenever u love good for others, you will succeed in this world (religion is a transaction). I know that many of u don't like this talk but it is the truth

Nd On the other hand u must do the opposite of what all people think in order to succeed The black man wanted to climb to the top in order to surviv, but in reality with people of high authority u'r thought should be like them meaning finding a solution to the problem or thinking the opposite of what they think and Also the opposite of how everyone thinks not eating and drinking to survive sometimes u have to change 👍✨

I’m not sure why anyone believe that the penna cotta made it to the top and the chefs believed no one ate it because of a hair. That’s an irrational thing for the chefs to think, it makes no sense lol. The director said that was not what that scene meant anyway.

The common basic bandwagon explanation going around is stupid.

The desert dish about the hair is dumb. BECAUSE they spit and pee on the food everyday you REALLY think the starving people care about a hair?

They have asked for their favourite food and added it on the menu ... So then there is enough for everyone if they only eat their favourites. But humans sometimes gets wild, selfish, jealous and they act like animals ... So that the resources are not enough for everyone one. The whole movie reflects that the rich are getting richer and poor and getting poorer.

The child was sent up to make change.

THAT CAN'T BE TRUE. IT SOUNDS NICE BUT THERE WERE TIMES WHEN THE MAIN CHARACTER WAS ON A LOWER FLOOR AND THE WOMAN NEVER PASSED HIM. THERE'S NO WAY THAT EVERY WEEK THE MOTHER SAVED FOOD FOR HER DAUGHTER AND WHY WASN'T THE CHILD PLACED ON OTHER FLOORS?

Hmmm. You got it all wrong, this actually seems to be a Christian film. There’s 333 floors, 2 inmates per floor. That makes 666, the number of man. The main character is a Christ-like figure. He brings a book and teaches it. He finds ways to save others and put them before himself. Etc etc

I think the reason Miharu killed the dog was not because of hunger but the dog isn't even supposed to be in the hole. The dog is eating part of the food for the people in the levels which is wrong. She wanted the food to reach everyone ACTUALLY ASSIGNED TO THE LEVELS and unfortunately the dog is not one of it so consumption is not right.

This isn't what capitalism is about more like communism. the ones on top get everything while at the bottom get nothing and the prison management/government is the one giving the food equally because people are greedy and is not reaching out to the ones below.

In capitalism you have to offer something to gets something and work your way up.

I was really impressed at how this movie represents. Like the government in the Philippines. Funded through the officials then as the funds go down thinking that it will eventually reach the poorest of the poor, but sadly didn't. Because it was already greed upon by those in the upper and middle positions in the government

I agree that the child existed. It makes more sense to think the mom protected some food for the child every time because while the system may have shuffled her postition in the vsm they never moved the child who stayed in the ground floor. I dont really think theres much metaphysical or metaphorical interpretation and for that very reason I think the actual ending is much much darker. We see the continuous motif that of the slab rising fast af up the vsm. so fast that if you tried to intercept or jump on it youd certaily be killed. What I think he decided to do upon finding the child was to send her up as a message but not safely. I think the implication is that the child will be shot up the platform and when it eventually reaches the top the momentum of the child being shot up would slam it into the above wall and kill it in a gory mess. This is the message to the management of the vsm. That you let a child in here, ignored her and now her death is on their hands. Thats the message. No metaphors and kind of straight foward if you look at it. THe MC isnt solemn and quiet at the end just because hes near death, hes also removed himself from humanity for the sake of change. Hes willingly sacrificing this child in order to make a statement. Thats why hes not happy he found the kid nor does he take his realization in stride like a man with an ephany. He has to show the management that theyve removed humanity from their tenants.
