QUESTION...I am interested in this ...I have an ethernet network.....BUT I want to be able to get the Free to Air TV channels when my cable/internet provider is "down". For example, during a hurricane it is common for us to lose cable/internet. Am I still able to get the TV channels?

I have a Quad tuner Tablo, it works good and I really like it. The only issue that I have with the Tablo is if the internet goes down you CAN NOT watch live or recorded programs on it. It has to have working internet for it to WORK!!!
I would not have a Sling TV, Sling TV is owned by Dish Network and I was a dealer for Dish Network and they SCREWED US EVERY CHANCE THE GOT!!!

So how does the signal from the antenna get into your wifi? Does the Tablo have a wifi transmitter in addition to receiver?

These are all pretty worthless since they can't get ATSC 3 except for the HD Homerun and it can't connect to a TV!

I have had issues with the air tv only picking up channels with really strong single which was only about 20% of the channels in my area. I hooked the same antenna up to the tv directly and 3 times as many channels showed up. Have you seen this issue with other 2 that you first mentioned?

I'm curious why noone makes a device that can connect to the antenna and wirelessly repeat that signal to tvs within the house with the proper antenna installed. Basically an over air signal repeater rather than running wires everywhere. Or even a blue tooth device that will take the over air signal and transmit it to sets within the house for those without wifi or using data.

Although video is 6 months old...I found it interesting. Do you have any thoughts updated thoughts as to the best OTA DVR with built in HD...and Ethernet ready...? I currently have Fire TV Recast, and know that they have drop their OTA DVR product going forward. So I am in the market for a really good product that would work with my 6 Firesticks I have in my house...Any recommends...or any pending videos that would be current to today's market...thanks in advance for your time. I also want you to know you have a professional and fresh style regarding your best antennas videos, as well!

I went on a several hour search for a cheaper version that just simply provides ota signal to all devices on my network.
No luck. Anyone else?
There is a $50 1 tuner antennas direct clearTv tuner but you only can watch 1 device at a time and the software interface is poor and doesn't sync to TV guides.

Is there a chance you can discuss the different between dual and quad tuners? Some of us are ignorant to the technical side of things. I want to be able to hookup my Fire Tv's without the use of wires if at all possible. I want to be able to watch antenna channels via my home's roof antenna, wirelessly to several tv's throughout my home. So if you could explain in a video that is better for us simpleton's that would be great! Thanks in advance.

I'm hoping for a simpler solution. I want an outdoor antenna, Wired thru coax to a "transmitter" Wi-Fi device , Then another Wi-Fi "receiver" next to the tv that has a coax out to the tv. It seems weird that I cannot find this in my web searches. Does anyone know of this? I do not want to punch holes in the house..

This is misleading. If I put my indoor antena on the 2nd floor for better reception and plugged it into the Tablo, wouldn't I have to run upstairs to change stations. My livingroom is out of the remotes range...

I have a question concerning interference with a Wi-Fi tuner (SiliconDust HomerunHD Connect series). The signal strength for the networks in my area is very good--the towers are only about 6 miles away, and usually get 100% signal strength and stability, sometimes maybe 85% on some channels. But usually the signal is uninterrupted. But I've noticed when I put my iPhone on airplane mode with Wi-Fi or just use Wi-Fi by itself in the iPhone, it seems to correlate with the antenna signal freezing intermittently, when receiving it with EyeTV on my MacBook. I don't get this effect when using my iPhone with cellular only. It doesn't always happen immediately but may show up after a little while, even though the signal strength can be good. Sometimes if I restart EyeTV or restart my computer it resolves the issue, and just turning off Wi-Fi on my iPhone doesn't necessarily fix or create the issue right away. It took me a while to figure out this correlation, and when I went a few months without using Wi-Fi on my iPhone I had no freezing issues, but when I just recently turned Wi-Fi in airplane mode on again on my iPhone, the next time I used EyeTV it was back to freezing, even though I couldn't reproduce the issue at will after resolving it by restarting my computer and turning Wi-Fi off on my iPhone. One time a few months ago I noticed it was also affecting reception from the antenna with the USB tuner directly into my MacBook, which I hooked up after it was glitching through Wi-Fi, which would indicate it is affecting the actual broadcast signal, not the Wi-Fi signal, or maybe the EyeTV software connection, but I don't know. I don't know why the Wi-Fi in general for my computer and for a wireless speaker does not affect it, only when I turn Wi-Fi on in the iPhone. I did notice sometimes if I have my wireless speaker selected on my computer while recording a program with the Wi-Fi tuner, and then I turn off the wireless speaker, it causes a glitch in reception, where just leaving it on does not--it's the turning something off. So I wonder if the iPhone on Wi-Fi is somehow turning something on and off even if I'm not actually using the iPhone for something. And is it affecting the Wi-Fi signal or the actual broadcast signal or both?

I use the SiliconDust HomerunHD Connect Duo or Flex Quatro 4 to record to my MacBook, using an obsolete EyeTV app, which I didn't realize for quite a few years actually still connects to the HomerunHD Connect devices--I previously had used a USB tuner that it recognized. It actually has quite good recording schedule software, not to mention the internal editing function is better and more convenient than other external editors for this because it can trim and join segments without reencoding. I use the Connect models because they are the only HomerunHD line that doesn't compress and reencode the over the air signal. Of course to maintain use of EyeTV I have had remain in Mojave for almost 3 years. Eventually I will have to get a new MacBook and leave this old one in Mojave for EyeTV. I have a mid 2012 MacBook I kept for years in Mavericks in order to retain the version of EyeTV I was using, and didn't know if I could update the OS--it turns out I could have updated and used a slightly newer, but still long outdated, version of EyeTV, which I am using now with Mojave. But EyeTV being a 32-bit app, I can't update on my current MacBook past Mojave.
Eventually I might have to rely on the SiliconDust HomerunHD DVR service, or Plex.

I am considering the Tablo.
Q1. Would it be safe to connect it in the garage. Chicago weather can range from 0 to 90+ deg F.
Q2. Would I connect the hard drive to the Tablo?
Q3. Is it even possible to tap into existing cable TV splitter if I can find it in the basement? Not sure if it’s compatible.

Tablo OTA streamer is a great concept. Unfortunately, the TV reception with just the antenna hooked to my TV is great but totally pixelates using the Tablo quad ota. The Tablo shows full signal but the stations pixelate. Also, the WiFi connection is weak on the Tablo compared to other devices on the same network in the same room as the Tablo resulting in bufferin even at the lowest 480P setting. I had to return for a refund. Didn't want to take a chance on a replacement. To be honest, I bought this from Tablo as a refurbished unit and maybe it still had problems they did not pick up on. At least their 30 day money back guarantee works and customer service is top notch.

I have the amazon recast and in a major city and I get the error literally once a week like clock work. Sometimes it even disconnects from the internet and I have to go to setting and restart the recast. It's annoying but it's also too late because I've already purchased it and I'll make do. Just wish amazon does something about it, but i'm thinking this is a hard no.

Thanks for recommending the Tablo. I bought mine about 2 years ago after your review. It changed our t.v listening experience. No more commercials. Our shows just appear on the recordings. We love it. Very few issues. Only the commercial skips that is buggy on weaker stations.

I have a question we live in an area in Utah that they say we live in a bowl. Basically mountains and Hill Air Force Base block our view of direct antennas from the TV stations and the transmitters in the salt lake area. Is there a law or anything that says that cities must have TV reception for emergencies? I'm just looking for a way to be able to get free service thank you
