Would it have been crazy to have colored the hair to be a even orange red. Dry it then apply lightener so you don't need to be so meticulous?

I have a question for you I have natural dirty blond hair and I use light blond hair color on my hair during the summer only so i haven't colored it since summer before last because I was in the hospital for a few weeks and didn't feel good enuff to do it but I haven't gotten it as light as I would like to the last few times I've done it because I'm not sure which blond color I should be getting I want it very light blond but not white and it keeps coming out with some yellow and orange tones in it as well can you help me and tell me which one I should get I also have a Sally's in town I could go to get stuff but can't be to much money we are on a fixed income

If you bleach the charcoal will it be green or not come off unlike purple?
