Ответитьsorry can i ask you do you think that the size (17 inch) for screen display tablet is prohibitive for a professional concept artist?
(I intend to give it as a gift to a friend who is a professional) the product we are referring to is the wacom cintiq pro 17
Really excellent and informative video! Thanks so much for sharing this insight! I’ve always suspected that aspect of concept art- ie what it really means and entails- and the various terms I’ve seen people use always was so confusing. Especially when I start to see people specialize themselves with specific terminology like “Character concept artist” or “Prop Designer” etc. just like in animation, I’d imagine that’s something that exists in concept art, would they be correct? As you outlined in the video that you can “” be a general concept artist or specialize yourself- whether specific field or even genre. Since would it get confusing if you advertised yourself as a “Jack of all trades” concept artist? I’ve often heard that can very confusing, and it’s a misconception to think you need to be that Jack of all trades artist (ie you do a mix of a background designer, character designer, storyboards, props). Since you’re not really improving/ getting good at that one thing. Thanks again for the great video!
ОтветитьThanks a lot!! All the bests tells that for concept art you have to explore the more that you can between foundamentals, but also people, animals, environments, tools... I have few experience on it, but it has been enough to resonate with this
ОтветитьHello, I am a 3d environment artist and I want to create my portfolio showcasing my 3D skills using others concept art and I do not know if or how is it legally possible. Could I use their art and say the concept was not min and tag them or should I ask for permission beforehand? Can you please inform me on this subject?
ОтветитьConcept is the way forwards.
ОтветитьGreat video, i thought i was getting into a clickbait but it wasn't! Just to comment something about it, i've seen more recenlty many artists use the term "2D Visual Developer" instead of concept artist, wich i don't think it solves the problem you pointed on the video, but i think it is a more simpler/easier to explain term for what we do as concept artists
ОтветитьYes this video is very much clickbait. You don't build a house without a blueprint. You don't start nor finish a project without concept art.
ОтветитьNice advice all pro artist can make any design. The real question is "for what that design use?" ,nice guidance mister.
Ответитьnice!
ОтветитьNah... Concept Artists design concepts.
Ответитьwell it was interesting but also clickbait
ОтветитьThx mate for explaining, I'm really catching up with your point 😁👌
ОтветитьListening to this vid again, and i'm noticing one mistake. First and foremost function designers, because function is the foundation, and form follows function. This is the big problem in this industry, many are concerned about their shapes, where their function sucks ass. And it's far challenging creating solid function(sword that works, gun that works etc.).
ОтветитьI was worried about what to expect from the title. I want to learn art to specifically help me become some form of concept artist and it gets overwhelming on how do I learn art in a way that helps me build these important skills which is how I found this video 😭 there just seems to be so much you can do.
ОтветитьAs a 3D artist I would like to say this; FOR GODS SAKE! PLEASE DRAW SOME PROPER ORTHOGRAPHİCS! We are really sick and tired to try to understand what you have skizzed on the paper. Every single time we try to model things with the concept art you have drawn, you people show up behind our shoulder and say "yea but I didn't image this like that in my head"... guess what! WE DON'T KNOW WHAT THE FUCK GOES IN YOUR HEADS! Please PLEASE PLEASE! in the name of god or whatever you believe in, make some proper orthographic drawings and don't let us guess every single thing on the world. We have enough to do on our hands. You people get your payment to do your jobs, we get our payment to do our jobs. But our jobs aren't guessing what you meant or what you wanted with some design that you skizzed on a piece of paper! It's tedious, it's time consuming and it's counterproductive. Please ask your 3D artist for once what they feel when you give them some artwork where he has to guess every single aspect just because you didn't wanted to draw a proper orthographic but instead just made a 3/4 pose and said yeah good luck with that.
ОтветитьThis is actually ridiculous. All you did was explain the definition of concept art. But you left out the key detail that concept art is not Marketing art, that's where illustrators come in. The polished images you just showed for Centure is much closer to post production art than it is to preproduction. Concept artist is a general term, but context designer??
You must know that context designer is such an alien term to artist as the term concept art is to non-artist, and this new name you cooked up does not solve any problem. And the fact that this title has absolutely nothing to do with the video. why not say "don't call it concept art". You're clearly preying on the student artist struggling to break into the industry, why not just make a video just explaining what concept art is instead of this uninspiring attempt to sound innovative. Thanks and have a nice day
Ik im late but does the artwod course go in depth and cover fundamentals (figure drawing, construction, values) for positions in game art? Im still currently trying to improve and wanted to look into good online resources.
ОтветитьWell Breakdown description given. Very Informative
Ответитьso how about..... Context Artist? XD
ОтветитьVery well informative video, although I fucking hate the bait thumbnail! It’s so shitty how the audience needs dramatic/deceptive thumbnails to click. I get the strategy… again, very very nice video.
ОтветитьConcept Art is one word and only: Design!
ОтветитьARE YOU MAD? DON'T BE.
ОтветитьIt’s probably best to watch Marc burnt or Trent k. If you guys really want to learn more about concept art. Those guys actually worked in the industry for years. And have proof to back it up. And it helped me land a job at Wayfoward
Ответитьwould being a concept artist outside the blizzard style get me jobs?
ОтветитьSo concept art is character design?
ОтветитьSo... basically your video was correcting the definition of concept art, not saying 'don't be a concept artist'. That's clickbait.
ОтветитьVery well said! I want to share this on my Twitter account using a URL with a caption, plus your credits along with it. Would that be okay to share this video on my Twitter account? because some people gets confused of what concept art is or what concept art is supposed to be. I will await your reply regarding this matter. :)
ОтветитьNice
ОтветитьCan you become a concept/visual artist that specializes in a particular genre, like horror? I'd love to do environment, character, and prop design, which I know is a mass undertaking, but if you specialize in a particular genre, do such artist positions exist?
ОтветитьGreat video, concept art is almost every art these days lol
ОтветитьOne thing you're insanely true is most company first hire 'concept artist' for making stylized concept art, but then their project changes, a lot of realistic game/movie project is priority then a experienced stylized artist have to do a job as industrial designer to make functional things for high quality assets... This job is kind of not same job at different time, and almost mess up as artist is not experienced with the highly functional quality. In a short word, this is not a job anyone can learn in couple years, it can be a lifetime and suffer a lot as requirements go higher...
ОтветитьVery informative, Thank you so much!
ОтветитьYou have become another one that I trust (in terms of concept art.) It's very hard to find someone like you. Most people always think concept art as the badass production paintings and they dont know what we actually do
ОтветитьGreat topic
ОтветитьI have been confused for a long time about concept art, thought initially it was a clickbait, thanks a lot for the clarification
Ответитьwow best video about concept art i've ever seen. The most articulate, well-structured and intelligible written piece about this industry. I subscribed! 💪🏽
ОтветитьDo you have a discord?
ОтветитьThis video has really opened my eyes, thank you!
ОтветитьThey are integrated; drawing, construction, modelling etc. are all the same beast, you should learn all of them and never stop
ОтветитьContext designer is really not that much better in my opinion. It makes it sound like you design THE context, which you don’t. You design UNDER context. Also I don’t see the problem in calling yourself a concept artist?
ОтветитьI mean does it really matter what follows after "concept"? This world alone delivers all you need to know.
ОтветитьAwesome video and all of it is 100% accurate.
ОтветитьSir please make your sketch book tour ❤️❤️❤️❤️
ОтветитьI appreciate how there are captions to your videos, i can understand your words more fully!
ОтветитьWe have the same issues with the product design terms. A lot of digital only companies advertise for product designers which is confusing for traditional Industrial/Product designers.
Very good video nice points. I always had issues with the concept artist term as well since I considered myself more of a concept designer since I never cared about nicely illustrating something (like an artist might want to) once I got the main idea over in a way that made the concept perfectly understood by everyone.
And thanks for including me in your video cheers ;)
You know? When it read, “don’t learn concept art” you had me worried there for a second because I’m actually thinking of going into creative media where they do concept art. so, I thought you were gonna say something that might’ve made me think I made a mistake, but no you were just clarifying the more accurate term of this specific concept art.😅😂
ОтветитьHello there. I have planned a fictional world with a storyline which I wanna make a franchise on a nice day. I might need a concept artist. If you (reader) are bored and wanna work for free, you might do me some.
ОтветитьVALHALLAA
ОтветитьWell put together video! Your style is clean and informative.
I have to agree, when I tell my students what concept art is, the answer has always been disappointing as it isn't always clear. I find myself saying "it depends on what you are doing". In the end, to be a good concept artist / designer, you need to be able to be a damn good draftsman, create ideas from imagination and communicate clearly. Let me know if you feel inclined to agree. Thanks for the video Antonio!
