It’s too soon to say what my favorite book of the year will be (I wait until the year is fully over), but I know Pet by Catherine Chidgey, Demon Copperhead by Barbara Kingsolver, and We the Animals by Justin Torres are all contenders 😊

The title of this is such a genius tweak on end of year wrap ups.

I love your list! I have assassins quest, funny story, birnam wood and ministry of time on my shelves already 🎉

I haven't written my top books list as yet, but I think at number 1 will be Boudica, dreaming the eagle by Manda Scott - an amazing historical fantasy based on what we know of her.

Bright young women is such a great book I get emotional just thinking about it. And I love the way I’m thinking about ending things unravels.

It’s been a Barbara kingsolver year for me - my top book of the year is bean trees by her (nothing like a book making you cry in the airport)

War and Peace is one of my favorites! It's great to see someone tackle it and come out better for it. The Briggs is a pretty good translation. Jane Eyre catching strays lol

I've still only read the first Hobb, but I love it. Parable of the Sower felt so realistic. It had me wanting to prep a go bag.

I've never heard of Birnam Wood! Adding it to my list
I think my favorites of the year are either:
Look at Me by Anita Brookner, or
A Stranger in Olondria by Sofia Samatar.

Whenever I read multiple books at once I feel like I need to make consistent progress on them to feel like I accomplished something. And if I take a break from a book for a couple weeks I feel as though I need to start over even though I know the story. It's definitely weird.

Lmao at the Jane Eyre peekaboo. I got something from it with her character, but I absolutely understand why someone would hate it. Some frustrating characters…

My favorite standalone was I Who Have Never Known Men. My favorite series from this year was The Liveship Traders. My favorite non-fiction might just be one I’m in the middle of, By the Fire We Carry.

Parable of the Sower was also a top favorite read for me this year. I read Parable of the Talents and loved it too, although I got slightly different things from each installment. I also loved Kindred by Butler. Also The Fifth Season by N.K. Jemisin! And My Brilliant Friend. And for horror, Natural Beauty and The Centre.

Would you consider holding the book closer and steadier to the camera, it’s difficult to see the books. Thanks. Just found you and subscribed to your channel

I’m an older guy who clicked on this video and hoped it wouldn’t be 10 romance stories. Then I saw a few titles on your shelf that intrigued me. I loved the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo trilogy. Also, I bought Infinite Jest, which I also see on your shelf. I got it used for $4, but don’t plan on reading it anytime soon. I’ll check your channel to see if you’ve reviewed it. If you haven’t, I’d be interested.

I haven’t read Kindred (Octavia E. Butler) yet, though I did get it (are you seeing a trend?). Would you recommend Parable of the Sower more?

I don’t read very many books a year. I enjoyed Project Hail Mary, which had a lot of interesting ideas and situations in it. I also enjoyed Call of the Wild, by Jack London. It was interesting and told from a dog’s point of view.

Thanks for your list!

I have a hard time picking my favourite of 2024 because I enjoyed a ton of books this year. I'll go with the most surprising, which is The Count of Monte Cristo. I was not expecting to love that book as much as I do. I even when out and bought a hardcover edition to add to my permanent collection.

I think my favorite of this year was Tomorrow, Tomorrow and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin. Fates and Furies by Lauren Groff would be a close second.
