I had the exact same experience. I tried like hell and couldn’t get it when I was a kid. Then one day I nailed it. It then stuck with me.

Hey really good man..!! I played in a Scottish Highland Pipe Band on side drum, but struggle to do rudiments around the kit. : (. I can roll like a cat on fire, but not on the kit... Buddy Rich can, tho... ; )

My instructor was very big on technically correct form. Probably spared me damage over time. So anyway I've learned to play heel down. Not easy at 1st but once you develop the muscles it becomes SO easy to do this will minimal energy. Helps on long gigs.

Ian Paice does something similar in the end of 'Flight of the rat' from 'Deep Purple in Rock', which sounds absolutely great. 🥁

BUT, I will add that:
Holy CRAp that crash is a dead ringer for Bonzo's. It has exactly his sound! I have searched and never found one. What is it? Looks to be about an 18" maybe a medium/light Zild?

This is everything a drum tutorial video should be.

Brian is leaving out an important detail. Bonham plays the last two notes of the triplet on his right foot while playing the downbeat with his left on the hi-hat. So he's playing all three notes of the triplet with his feet.
