Hey bro, just wanted to say thank you! My AC was been down for a month or so.. I called a company to diagnose the issue, and they ended up coming out and telling me it’s not worth the diag due to age (less the 9 year old system) they quoted $17k..
Studied your videos, and decided to tackle it my self..
I found a bad leak on the low side line under my house, at a 90 degree fitting.
Used your videos to learn the recovery process, soldering with staybrite, charging, and checking pressures.
AC going out used to be a huge stresser as a home owner, and I had doubts that could do it... but now that I have the tools and some knowledge.. it’s no big deal.. thanks from a now cold family in Florida❤️

Hello,
do the directions say to remove the piston and add a txv, and do they tell you what txv to use on this model?

Staybrite 8 Stronger than Brazing, where is the proof...? Hard to believe..!

So yes, easier, stronger, Lower temps....... What gets me is the reason why staybrite doesn't come out with a study showing that it's not necessary to also wipe the inside of the pipe. If you look at old water pipes that were not wiped clean while still at the steam stage, they corrode and leak. It would also be great to see compression fitting manufacturers show - as with staybrite- the ac manufacturers that the instructions don't have to say "braze with nitrogen", but they do. so it comes down to yes I can do that very easy, but it voids the warranty.

Can you add staybrite 8 over existing solder, say to fix a leak from a braze joints

Seems the flux would be pushed into the tube ahead of the solder, as it wicks in. Wouldn't that cause issues?

tired of the hvac mafia trying to get their kids braces paid for on one install. I'd gladly pay time and material for an install but they jack the fucking labor way beyond their hourly rate. The hourly rate is supposed to cover all expenses and provide profit and account for any expertise the technicians have. Even if they wanted to charge a flat rate for labor as long as they broke down what that is and they never fucking do.

Hey great video!!! but here's my Question.. We do alot of splits in mobile homes and from the jump they taught us to check out how many footage on line sets because we would add if needed freon to the system based on how many feet used????

Thanks for this great tutorial All your Tutorials are great. So much controversy of brazing versus staybrite. I don’t know if staybrite can be used on the newer A2L systems or not? Are the compressors soldered or brazed from the manufacturers and if one were to replace a compressor with all the movement isn’t it better to Braze?

You are an inspiring guy. And I guess others might have mentioned, but shouldn't you wear safety goggles (with tinting) while brazing with an acetylene torch?

Looks good for all joints except compressor outlet through condenser input. Have you ever seen it used on compressor output? Not sure if I would trust it for approaching 300 degs F and lots of vibration stress on compressor high side outlet.

When you were running the vacuum pump I saw you removing the valve from suction line. Did u also remove it from liquid line when you placed the micron gauge or do u just leave it on the liquid line and remove it only on suction line. Thx

I'm not an AC guy But I have never seen anyone solder lines sets before, I called my AC guy and he said it would not take the pressure, after reading the comments it sounds like solder works just fine. I think I will give it a try if I ever get the opportunity. I believe its just another attempt at keeping homeowners from installing their own units and keeping the DIY's out of the industry. I live in California and they will not sell me a AC unit at the supply house unless I have my License. Makes me mad.

Why instead of welding can not use screw on couplers without welding manufacturers should come with screw couplers instead of welding, the heat from welding damage the condensor valve and leak later I have seen it a lot then the condensor valve has to be replaced.

Great video, Goodman doesn't have the best reputation but what could be changed/upgraded easily to bring it up to par? Cap, Contactor, Pressure switches? Everything I've worked on had compromises made, over engineered in some areas and under engineered in others. What weak links if any are in the Goodman product Condenser units? Thanks in advance for any input.

Navac I just got new gauges I love them and only $89 what a bargain. The only thing that I saw I didn't like is you should be using a swagger and bender no fittings and less joints and where are you no filter driers what do you do about acid build up. But over all nice install I would have made the pipes in the attic tighter to one side so it's not a trip hazard . But like I say all the time never talk about others work because you were not there. Nice job I'm going to find out if that's legal in Florida south Florida that's where I do HVAC work. And there's one more thing why is the txv outside the unit we put inside remember if the Bulb gets hot or cord so will the copper tube carrying the refrigerant correct.

I don't know maybe I'm wrong I'm just a licensed contractor. If I'm not mistaken all the manuals require at least 5% silver brazing rod. Soft solder has to be used with flux. Flux is acid acid gets into the system.

Do not use stay brite #8, it will not last, I work on a unit installed in 1996, I found the leak on the suction at the condenser at the solder joint, I have also found if you use it on a cooler the solder will corrode and leak, the best way to make your connection is braze or pro press!

hey bro ,I suggest that the valve core must be taken out when welding, which can easily lead to damage to the valve core. refrigerant leak。and..The most reliable welds are high temperature electrodes. Dye aids can aid in welding, and can also seep into the pipes, clogging the system.
