For gaming, I would not recommend the iPhone because they suffer from thermal throttling. Between gen 2 and gen 3 I would recommend 2 to most people, because really the ceiling has already been reached in performance in all the games of the play store. Considering that the 8 gen 3 is much more expensive, I would only recommend buying it if you play with emulators and really demanding games or perhaps in the future PS3 emulations on mobile. But I would really even prefer to recommend waiting for a gen 4 or higher that really makes a tremendous leap and facilitates the emulation process on mobiles.

Graphics on the iPhone is far better

If Apply could keep their chip from throttling, it obviously has best GPU performance - But because of thermal issues the Gen2 and Gen3 take it

Before any Apple fanboys start nutting and embarrassing yourselves, check out benchmarks. A17 gets annihilated by SD8G3. Only reason it wins here is because it's called optimization. Same reason why even when AMD was competing as Nvidia GPU at one point things still ran better on nVidia cuz optimized best for nVidia.
