People didn't live to 24. Who are these "scholars"
Ответитьwhen was this documentary made?
carbon dating, of at least the frames if not a hidden corner of the painting, should help with the dates
Just call him 'Jeroen'
ОтветитьBrian Sewell and Kenneth Williams seem to have been educated at same school.
ОтветитьWhen a calf is being born, the translucent placenta balloons around it. That is where Bosch discovered that image, I believe.
ОтветитьThat was fucking brilliant!
ОтветитьHairy Bair Ben Eaton Pancake brothers
ОтветитьHi
So what’s different?
Shalom to us only in Christ Yeshua returning soon to reign over His creation from Jerusalem forever.
Ah! The past .. it's not as long ago or as far away as we may like to imagine. And neat little pop-u-mentaries, while entertaining, deceive the eye, the ear, the heart, and the head. Over-simplification - and concurrent over-complication - can make the past seem like an alien world, when in fact it is still our world as it was - and shall be .. seen from a different perspective.
God bless. ;o)
Brian knows
ОтветитьI remember my first glimpse of Garden of Earthly Delights at the age of 5 or 6. It scared me, but I was fascinated by the huge collection of creatures unknown to me. I had no religious teachings to explain what it meant. (My entire family is atheist, back 2 generations I know of.)
As said in the video: this all came out of Bosch's imagination. The fact that it was 5 centuries old imagination didn't sink in until I got older. Wow!
Oh shit the ridiculous affectations of Brian Sewell!
ОтветитьAnd the adverts are every three minutes. I live in a world of deadbeat idiots
ОтветитьThe fact that you have annoying adverts for useless crap for brain dead people (in other words 70% of the population - at least) clearly demonstrates the degeneration of society certainly in the last fifty years at least.
ОтветитьWhat about the possibility that Bosch was mentally ill and suffered from delusions, or even was a drinker and had delirium tremens?
ОтветитьChristianity is the greatest evil humanity has ever invented
ОтветитьThe way Bosch depicted hell was pretty much how people believed hell looked. His work became popular thanks to his skills in composition and the way he worked with colours. He also had very rich and important friends.
ОтветитьTalk about making a really lively painter so freaking boring! OMG!! I've never heard anything so deadening as this section of art discussion... I kept waiting for somebody to step in and go hold it! hold it! Why are you people even commenting? Commenting on the obvious... let's breathe some life into this! Waldemar where are you?? The thing that disturbs me is the expressions on the people's faces are either so blank or so accepting of 'this is the way it is', even as they're going through these horrific punishments. It took me years to wrap my head around that imagery... I discovered this guy back in high school and I thought he was absolutely fascinating! I didn't need anybody to explain to me what the hell Bosch was talking about- except the owls & birds everywhere- that was pretty trippy, cuz I thought owls were symbols about death or knowledge... but no; 🦉🦉🦉 for him are something else entirely eerie. Spitting Swans Indeed. ❤ Heironymus Bosch!!
ОтветитьEVERY TIME THE NARRATOR SAYS, "TRIPTI CH", I CRINGE!
ОтветитьIT IS AMAZING, THE DELUSION OF CONTEMPORARY HUMANS TO PRETEND TO KNOW AND EVEN INTERPRET ANYTHING, IN THIS CASE, THE WORK OF SUCH GENIUS.
ОтветитьTHIS BRIAN SEWELL IS SOOOO FULL OF HIMSELF...HE SEEMS SO BORING AND VACUOUS...
ОтветитьLame documentary. Really bad. Very superficial and postmodern propagandistic.
ОтветитьI don't care how good he is but I can't listen to brian sewell please stop showing him 🤬

ОтветитьI have to laugh, the word arcane is arcane. Great video, I learned a lot. My wife is an artist and I am a musician. We discuss the difference in each often.
ОтветитьHe did not change his name. The family came from Aken (Aachen, Germany) hence their 'name' which only means 'from Aachen', but he was third generation living in 's-Hertogenbosch aka Den Bosch, so he only adjusted his name to the current situation. It was not a nobility name, but a practical, like Smith could turn into Shoemaker when the son did not take fathers profession.
His full first name was Jheronimus or Hieronimus, which in daily life turns into Jeroen, Jerom, Jheron.
A funnel with the wide side up collects wisdom, wide side down it works as a chimney.
Wearing a book (bible) as symbol of wisdom, by the nun, is foolish, books should be read, not for decoration.
(Compare it to a 'library' of a politician, books chosen for the nice look in the bookcase, not content. A wise (wo)man's bookcase is a complete chaos, sorted by content, not looks.)
A drunk monk is sitting next to the 'patient', mumbling drunk man's talk, instead of devotion.
Only the fool is fooled by all, the surgeon, the nun, the monk, and puts his hope on even more foolish than he is.
This painting depicts the starting reformation, when people stop being fooled by the church and fake science.
He was a member of the 'Lieve Vrouwe Broederschap' (Brotherhood of the Dear Lady), a group of wise men, not religious fanatics, broadminded, engaged, discussing modern issues of their time.
Very good, but get the pronounciation of the names right..........
ОтветитьSewell is annoying
Ответить45.33 'unfortunate that we have no record of the thoughts and beliefs of the artist who created it....'? What about his painting?!
ОтветитьAll of you just need to get a life. I was born in England 74 years ago, and although I moved to Canada in 1970 have never lost my accent. I sound exactly like this man. Probably why I cannot sing in tune lol. It’s not snobbery, just life. You don’t, or at least I hope you don’t, make fun of Americans’ different accents. It’s just rude..
ОтветитьWaldeimer is entertaining and a good communicator. I have long been an admirer of Bosch and have been fortunate enough to see many of his works in the flesh - the Prado in Madrid in particular - Phillip II of Spain acquired many of Bosch's work (there are only 37 known).
ОтветитьFascinating…insightful speculation and the undeniable relevance today, 500 yrs later…that is a true accomplishment..
ОтветитьSo many stories within stories
ОтветитьBosch = Genius
ОтветитьCould Bosch be a conglomerate of several different artists? A school of artists all working in the same paintings?
ОтветитьTo me bosch is reacting to the sunday sermons who were constantly and vehementally discussing hell and the flames and even the earlier parts if the bible focuses in the many sins if man in the christian view. He just put it down pictorially
ОтветитьI dunno... personally, i'd prefer paintings of Nummy Muffin Coocol Butter...
Ответить"A recent study by scientists has revealed that Nummy Muffin Coocol Butter is a scrappy little pal like no other."
---Albert Einstein
Music by Bach and Beethoven fits really well with the Renaissance.
ОтветитьJerowen?
The oe in Jeroen is pronounced like the oo in book.
Hieronymus Bosch might not have been a happy camper LOL.
He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone 🙏
Je- ROON!!! FFS.
ОтветитьBosch an og meme painter where the symbolism, puns, cryptic messages, visual colloquialisms were everything and never strictly literal. as with Brueghel's work the majority of the meaning was lost over the centuries.
ОтветитьWay way ahead of his time in art
ОтветитьWeak sauce, Perspective. Very weak. I have seen much better. Next time you want to do a Bosch doc let Waldemar have a go at it. That would be cool.😅
ОтветитьAbsolutely fantastic. Been enthralled by Hieronymus Bosch since I saw the Garden of Earthly Delights in the Prado in 1993.
Found myself agreeing deeply with the thoughts expressed here....
Those paintings are incredible, they’re like if terry Gilliam painted bible scenes
ОтветитьIt might help if you pronounce triptych as it should
Ответить
