I feel blessed that, in my lifetime, I've seen Whoopi Goldberg becoming the first African-American actress to be nominated for two Oscars; then to see Octavia Spencer break Goldberg's record, in being nominated for three Oscars; and then to see Viola Davis break Spencer's record in being nominated for FOUR!! Oscars.

At one time there was a joke that there would only be two film roles a year for African-American actors, and they would both go to Sidney Poitier.

We have, indeed, come a long way!!

It’s so incredibly disrespectful for them to rush her off the stage like that. It upset me to hear her apologize after all the work she’s done, she doesn’t even get to enjoy her moment of being recognized for more than 45 seconds until she’s being ushered off. Unbelievable.

I loved the film when it came out, but 12 years on how are these same actresses now trying to distance themselves from the film and burn it for some kind of pro-racist propaganda film??? It made stars out of Octavia, Emma Stone, Viola Davis, Bryce Dallas Howard and Jessica Chastain, yet some of the most vocal of the group now wish they never did the film because of the woke times we're currently living in. The story needed to be told, don't be so ashamed of it, it's a retelling of the worst times of American history, but it's still our history that should never be forgotten or hid away because it's painful.

Wish Netflix would play this movie, love watching the shorts.
