This guy has a significant other, when someone looked through my wallet, it was related to the attempts he and others tried in order to kill me off to replace me. I've had a hit placed on me since I was around four and have hackers. I'm currently among meat eating cannibals.
Anyway, thanks for being an inspiration for a lifestyle that has helped me. Minimalism has helped me carry less things and focus on how I spend my time on a regular day to day basis.
Smartest way I've heard of defining a thing is as a noun. A pair of socks is a thing, a sock is a thing. A thing is not a continuous bonded solid or anything crazy like that.
ОтветитьLol my exact thought when you counted the clothes was how many hangers do they have 😂 and after answered how do they store their clothes with only 79 hangers
ОтветитьYou should call Natalie her Majesty of Minimalism!!!
ОтветитьI have to know one thing, how long did it take you to count/catalog for this project?
Ответитьcan i be a minimalist and a material gworl?
Ответитьsaying minimalist is just a different way of saying you're broke
ОтветитьHahahaha Nath the minimalism queen
ОтветитьThe clip at the end lol, yeah I don’t have Amazon prime for a reason
ОтветитьWatching Matt while I literally have 5 tubes of open toothpaste all over my bathroom.
ОтветитьReally loved this kind of experiment 😊
Time consuming but worth it !! 😄
It is surely a difficult thing to figure out the optimal balance to minimalism; it is challenging to not go for an overkill but also not drift back to the (ab)normality. I guess what is most important is the mindset of a minimalist. Be intentional with every thing you own, and being cautious of the clutter created by every single item you own additionally; reminding this and practicing this daily is what I believe is really what matters. Its good to count the number of things, but to be honest I agree a 100% that the number does not define if you are a minimalist. From my experience, you just feel minimal (similar to how do not have to count the last penny you own to feel if you are rich or poor).
Having said that, I wish and hope, more and more people understand and acknowledge the power of minimalism.
PS: Quick suggestion - WIll be great to hear what you think about the concept of "Lagom"; I do believe the two concepts talk to each other
Did you count each piece of paper and each pen? I want to challenge myself to do this solely based on ideal vs actual reality and add that intention
ОтветитьHow dare you call yourself a minimalist. You have a couch.
I don't have a couch.
This exercise is a great help although it really gives you anxiety about which will stay and which you will throw.
The good thing is my room can breath.
Hey Matt! I'm going to disregard your warning and attempt to try this myself! I do have a question though; what was each sections' labels in your excel spreadsheet? I understand that the type of item was one and the number of that item that you had was another one... but i'm lost after that. Thanks for sharing your experience with things like this, and I hope you have a wonderful day! :)
ОтветитьI am gonna do this today. I should personally have less than 100 items.
ОтветитьGG Nat! hahah and props to you guys, that was very interesting
ОтветитьSorry but doesn't sound minimalism when someone saves hamburger decoration he uses once per year. "Using" things doesn't make any difference.
Ответитьbest sponsor piece ever. I actually saw it!
Ответитьfun fact u used the wrong "stationary" throughout the video, you mean "stationery"
ОтветитьI Said NO
SHE WONES
Would you be willing to share the template you used to count and analyse your data, please?
Ответитьthe most surprising thing about this is learning that i own less clothes then matt
ОтветитьThis was really interesting!! I hope those decorations magically go missing, to bring you more peace XD lol
ОтветитьI have 12,396 things... but I brought them all into my home “intentionally” so I guess I’ve always been a minimalist
ОтветитьDid he add owning the business to his number? Lol
ОтветитьI initially laughed when I saw this video! You have 8 throw pillows and you are a minimalist, yet here I am living as a minimalist and everything I have can fit inside one suitcase. But then I thought in the same way there are degrees and variations to life, I am a minimalist much more to a degree than you and a monk that probably only owns 4 things is much more of a minimalist than me. It’s all objective.
ОтветитьMy Christmas and Halloween decorations are among the most treasured items I own! 🤩🎄🎃Minimalism isn't about judging what our partners or others find valuable. It's about identifying that for ourselves and making thoughtful choices that improve our lives and hopefully the world. Personally, I find it moving and beautiful that people invest their time (and storage ; - ) to create holiday magic others can enjoy! 💖
ОтветитьThe summer before my first year of college, I created a spreadsheet and counted every thing in my bedroom (where I kept the overwhelming majority of my stuff), and my total was 1,676, which includes 236 wardrobe items (minus jewelry/bags). Since then, I've pared down more of my possessions, but I've also continued to acquire new things, many of which have been value adding but also some that I've come to recognize as getting in the way of an intentional life. Like Matt said in the video, holding guilt for one's mistakes isn't good, so I do my best to treat them as learning experiences and guides for following the path that aligns with where I want to go.
ОтветитьAnd how would you go about counting art supplies, are paints and pencils etc. considered consumables? And if you didn't count the consumables, would they not be counted. I can't even imagine counting each tube of paint or every coloured pencil. Art supplies are small, and don't take up too much space, depending on how much you have to begin with. But because they are so small, they add up to a lot when each item is counted... And for an artist, they are an essential.
Ответитьreally thought that last scene was going to be the "minimalist police" coming to take away your minimalist card.
ОтветитьI'm very curious about the papers and documents you keep. I'm currently wading my way through thousands and thousands of papers and documents which I have "inherited" from my recently departed father and also his best friend, my "uncle". It's overwhelming!
ОтветитьThe problem beggins when you find something that you didn't even remember you have in the first place.
ОтветитьOnly own what you need
ОтветитьDespite the danger of inducing anxiety, I'm really inspired to do this! I reminds me of the Konmari method which I feel a lot of people misunderstand, but one of the pillars is physically interacting with each item to decide if you want it in your life. It's really confronting to have to go out of your way and touch/count each object like that!
ОтветитьI feel that work equipment shouldn't be included since they are 'tools of the trade'. Who is likely the better carpenter? One with one tool or one with 200 tools?
ОтветитьI'm blown away by this content. I recently discovered similar material, and it was absolutely mesmerizing. "The Joy of Less: A Minimalist Living Guide" by Matthew Cove
ОтветитьI counted 317 things in my bedroom, including the attached bathroom. Forty five things in the guest bathroom.
I’m guessing about 1,500 things total in the whole apartment including the garage. Seven rooms total.
Love the video, we are currently pregnant, would you all be willing to share the spreadsheet of items Natalie compiled? Hoping to be minimalist!
ОтветитьI am certainly not a minimalist. I can probably see 1,600 things from where I am sitting on my bed right now. I really need to change this.
ОтветитьThis is neurotically wonderful
ОтветитьI'm surprised makeup and toiletries aren't considered consumables in this experiment.
ОтветитьMy cat got sick, so I bought a syringe to feed her. When the cat got catnip, I bought a Woodstock lamp and spray. These items are used so infrequently that I'm not even sure if I will use them again in the future. There are many such items in life that I can live 30 days without them but still can't throw away.
ОтветитьI know I own more now than I did last time I lived on my own, and that I keep buying more stuff, trying to find a balance of how I want my life to be now that I'm no longer a student and am no longer in a place of "waiting for my life to begin".
Also went from being a Fumio Sasaki minimalist to being more of a Marie Kondo minimalist, and that definitely brought about more stuff too
one word. Incredible!
ОтветитьDid you also count your furniture?
ОтветитьComo e bom sabe que não sou o único que conta quantas coisas tem em casa 😅 tamo junto matt 🇧🇷
ОтветитьJust watching this gave me anxiety
ОтветитьHow many things do you think you own? 🤔
Ответить
