Love of horses 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 I cannot count the emaciated horses my community and myself have rescued left behind or dropped off on peoples property ( dogs ,cats chickens ect) to roam around starving and unattended 🤬🤬🤬🤬 bones and sick needing vet care pure neglect the fact that they are aloud to have horses (animals) is despicable!!!! .. the travelers in my area migrate back and forth from here to Florida every year and every time they come up to the mountains in Ny they leave behind a trail of neglected animals 😡😡don’t even get me started!!!!!!

I have read most of the comments about travelers overseas and just about all are negative! We have our own Gypsy’s in upstate New York and no matter what part of the world we are from we all have the same opinions and experiences (no coincidence there 😏 here in New York we stay far away from them and their dysfunctional life styles!!! They come around here (6 months) then travel to Florida(6 month’s) and ROB people (especially old people) promising to do driveway work ect then collecting a LARGE deposit then never returning They have a bad reputation because they brought that upon themselves.. they marry their young (very young) cousins, cheat on them control and beat them!! ( the ones I have encountered ) they steal lie and cheat people and raise their children to do the same and the disgusting cycle continues 😞😖 they view the rest of us as below them! waiting to be robbed as a result of our trust and kindness Fuc🤬🤬🤬 traveler’s don’t even get me started about the emaciated animals ( horses, dogs, cats chickens ect that they abandon that we have rescued!! ASPCA is sick of there shit the neglect costs the county and community tons of money ect ..gypsy’s were once welcomed here and we were fascinated by there nomadic lifestyle and mystic and wanted to help them if needed, befriend them and accept them as part of the community NOT ANYMORE!! STAY AWAY FROM THE MOUNTAINS OF UPSTATE Ny YOUR NOT WELCOME HERE!!! You have no one to blame except yourselves! AND STOP SQUATTING ON OUR LAND WE WORK HARD AND PAY TAXES FOR!

There's a cruel streak running in conjunction with the jollity of the drinking, music, poetry, dancing of Irish society. Cruelty of the Magdalene homes; cruelty towards the outsider be he Traveler or a black-skinned girl gymnast. Cruelty in the sexual abuse of children by clergy and nameless children buried in convent gardens. Time to lift the scab and make some changes.............

The Irish gypsies I know live on the fringes of society because they don't know how to interact with normal human beings.
They're aggressive, rude, and completely antisocial even among each other. They come in my bar and play Rod Stewart on the jukebox all night. Then they usually try to rip us off before punching one of the staff, the customers, or one of their own wives in the face. They typically run away when you call the cops, or when someone wants to actually fight them. They also use "being Irish" as a lame excuse for their foul behavior. This is a peaceful town and every time they come thru here, it's like a gang has moved in.

Choices have consequences. You don’t get to live outside of society then complain the local town council isn’t giving you free electricity. The audacity. All the commentators feeling sorry for them should have them stay on their fields and see the mess they leave behind. See how they treat their “ beloved “ horses. Stop romanticizing keeping kids from getting a proper education. Stop romanticizing the home repair scams and the way travelers treat the workers and businesses where they squat. It’s not prejudicial to speak truth about the way people conduct themselves.

For all of the people in the comments saying negative experiences with Travellers, those are the only travellers you have encountered that you NOTICED. You cannot make assumptions about a culture of people because a collection of individuals behave a certain way.

These people are the same as every other. There are however outliers who more often than not, are deprived.

I went to school with travelers. Some of them were good people and some of them were dangerous. They had a tough time growing up in Ireland.
A lot of them were involved in robberies in the countryside. Which is why a lot of people don’t like them. A lot of them aren’t trusted.

… so, do ya want to continue a traveller life or receive a proper education? Do you want your chil’ren to read & write & better themselves or continue the traditional traveller way? Times change! Either move forward & educate your kids to ensure a better future whilst acknowledging your traveller traditions or segregate your kin by instilling antiquated tradition that inhibits personal development. Surely, you want the very best for your kids??? 🤷‍♀️

I am not from Ireland but I do know that the town I was staying in sure did get concerned when they saw a caravan of gypsies/traveling through. The intensity of the town went from a passive welcoming tourist to all the sudden the blood pressure and intensity increased when they saw the caravan go through.

Geneticists estimate this Irish community split from their native Irish communities a little more than 360 years ago. This could have been spurred on by the social upheaval that occurred following the Irish Rebellion in the 1600s with the severe backlash from Oliver Cromwell. As an Irish person you could fight for your ownership of land, willfully sign an indentureship with hopes of gaining land in North America or just pack up and start moving about the countryside and live a nomadic/merchant life. These folks bowed out of wars and industrialism. They have a direct line with the first industrialists - the wheel, horse and metallurgy people and they chose to never leave this early lifestyle. They are a reminder of our ancient past. The problem is that the British Isles is too small for them and their culture is not as protected and honored as some of the new immigrants whose radically different culture is beyond reproach. The subject of immigrants assimilating into British culture is completely off the table. Yet these folks should "know better" and get their act together. This inconsistency might hint of a subconscious bias relating to epidermis. We can't ask the folks from tent cultures to catch up with Northern European Industrialism but we can ask the people of the horse and wheel.

Going back to the Celt era, the Travellers were actually a very important part of society. They lived outside the Celt villages ,as they were entrusted with the responsibility of patrolling the perimeters, protecting the various clans. The history of their past is one of pride, sadly the connection between the Travellers and the people in the villages faded away over generations.

I think it must be very beneficial for kids to grow up around horses; it gives them companionship, but also responsibility; they’ll grow up with great work ethic and respect for nature. The other aspects of traveling life seem very hard for a child, though. Travelers clearly have a beautiful and vibrant culture and a history that deserves to be preserved and remembered, but it seems like it’s about time to start adapting the old ways a bit to give the kids more options in life.

Teachers are helpless to give the kids a proper education if they only show up for a week or two every other month; as a kid I struggled to remember what I learned in school over the weekend, I can’t imagine how hard it would be to remember the last lesson if I hadn’t been in school in weeks.

As a Yank from NYC with Irish parents, I remember vividly dealing with the travelers as a child when we lived on the outskirts of Dublin in the early 80s. Often we'd get into fist fights with them. They were always a strange lot, I thought, however nowadays in my older years it's clear they are basically no different than the American Negro, which like the travelers uses "racism" and poverty to make excuses for their decades of bad behavior and refusal to blend into society. The American black is on the bottom of the US todem pole, just like the Irish gypsy in Ireland.

DNA testing has shown that Travellers are at least 1000 years divergent from the main Irish population. Prior to this testing it was believed that Travellers were descended from people displaced by the Great Famine in the 1840s but this is not so. In Ireland "Travellers" and "Gypsies" are not from the same origins - the Gypsies are more Romany, think.

The only thing you need to know about gypsy travellers you can learn by seeing the state of their old squats after they move on. If you don't want to be a part of the system fine. But don't expect to be treated as functioning members of that system. Wokism is definitely hard at work here. They aren't being discriminated against, or victims of racism. Rather, they're being, in their own words, 'treated as rubbish'. If you don't like being treated as rubbish', clean up after yourself. It's hard to make the argument that some travelers are great people when the highly visible minority (if we're to believe that argument) are violent and dangerous. Change comes from within.

Cannot believe the hate that this clip has brought out in people. There is good and bad in any community/race/culture, my family has always been around travellers in Dublin and now myself in England the majority of my friends are travellers. They would do anything for you give you their last penny if you needed it, have better morals than most people. The discrimination & bullying the kids have to try and endure at school. Shops, pubs etc discriminate both adults and kids. No one should force someone to change their culture to settle. I have found the Uk to be a lot friendlier towards the travelling community. They should have many more sites around the country they can pitch up at then you would find the majority wouldn’t set up on private land. Yes there are some that give them a bad name and have done wrong to people but you get that in any community traveller or not.

I remember as a child it was common to see caravans of travellers parked on the side of the road as they travelled throughout Ireland. The local authorities would always move them on, then they, along with the Government tried to settle the travellers which was a disaster for them being the nomads they have been throughout the generations. The Government with the local authorities wanted to control them and their movements trying to destroy their inherited way of life. They should have being left alone to be instead of being forced to assimilate into what the Gov perceive as a normal way of life when in reality we were all nomads in the beginning. Now the arm of the Government have over regulated everything and are making it impossible for everybody to survive. They are like snakes slowly tightening the noose around people trying to choke them down to their very last breath for want of control.
