How to take apart your PS5 Controller and fix Stick Drift

this was it! thank you so much, other joystick that was still working didnt have any grease on it amd the one that had insane drift had it, so maybe it isnt meant to have it?

I often forget to install back the mic or other tiny part of my controllers and once I assembled them I realize it 😂😂

Seriously why is this such an issue...mine is unbearable...and a new one is 70 dollars?? I'm sorry but if a controller is that expensive, it should have a recall. I did find very small hairs inside, and that fixed it...thing is, my dualshock never had this issue and I was rough with those.

Turns out one of the sensors in the right stick was damaged/bent.
It was always turning left.

I replaced it with one of the sensors from my old PS4 controller and it worked!!

Saved me a lot of money!

Bought a ps5 30 days ago. Played 5-6 days and got a stick drift. What a sh*tty controller.

I used contact cleaner and sprayed it into the sticks and both sticks stoped working and I still have drift please help

Thank you for the video, your guide was easy to follow and understand! I had bad right stick drift, which has now vastly lessened after giving things just a basic clean (an input test still shows a very slight ghost movement, but I can play games without constantly fighting the camera for now!)

Damn the screws are so tight.
They won't budge. Destroyed my screwdriver, luckily no damage on the screws.
I did it but I'm not putting them back on, it holds well without them.

I just opened one from the box after connecting to the PC it started to experiencing drifting same on PS5 I'm not happy with thats I will be returning back to the store .I had one replaced by Sony and I'm experiencing the same after testing on PC and dead zones on Call of duty.

What a pain in the ass, ps2 controllers never had any drift, yet every ps5/switch joycon get drift within a year at most. Planned obscelecence

I don’t have stick drift, my problem is my new controller won’t have any headphones work perfectly. It just keeps disconnecting and I have to almost bend the plug thing of my headphones just for it to work. Does anybody have a solution? Other than buying a new controller…

I followed this tutorial step by step and put it back together exactly how i took everything apart, and now it wont even light up and turn on. How did this happen and can anyone help me with this?

Thanks for the video! I was able to take my controller apart relatively easy and clean that metal part to the potentiometer with tools around the house. I wouldn’t recommend not using the right tools, but I had already planned to just buy a new controller if I messed up this repair. Thanks again!

This video is great and I was able to successfully take it apart and work on it like a breeze so kudos brother‼️‼️ but man I’m super bummed at myself. I apparently bent the metal piece that comes out I was cleaning. Now my damn analog is stuck reading all the way to the left🥲🥲🫣😢😢

Thought my controller was toast but this video came in clutch for disassembly. My issue was with the dpad but same fix as the stick drift, just cleaned it up and checked ribbon that connect left side of controller. Back in business. Thank you for the video!

can you remove the black piece without removing the battery?

Is the grease absolutely necessary? My local stores only have white lithium grease and i’m not sure if it’s ideal for controllers

I don’t even have stick drift. All my buttons just stopped working in the middle of a game. Joysticks, triggers, and pause and share buttons tho

When I fixed it and was putting it back together and 1 black wire snapped and I got so pissed I broke the controller in half fuck Sony

tried this on my sons playstation5 controller. opened it and cleaned. when I put it back together the left joystick( the one I cleaned) was very rough to move and was not able to move it to the left (but up and down movement are ok). I feels as if something is stuck. Does anyone know what might be happening and how to fix it?

I followed these instructions exactly as my left stick was forcing any character I played with to try and walk off the left side of the screen by itself! I followed it carefully,didn’t break anything or disconnect any wires or pins and after putting back together neither stick works at all now and the up and down d pad now doesn’t work right either,if I push up on the dpad to select a tab on a menu it automatically moves it back down to the original position. Controller is totally useless now 🙁 time to buy a new ps5 controller I guess
