Ответить"You should try to avoid burnout"
"Okay, but what if I go to 15 cons a year"
Some musings while halfway into the video...
A fan that only cares about the fandom, spends all their leisure time on it, to me that's a really poor way to live. I got into this fandom as a means to self improvement, and the resources for such cannot be in the fandom. What I mean is, the resources that you need to become and express a better you, are not in the fandom. I don't know if I'm being clear at all. Furry is an expression of things found elsewhere.
This is what I felt back in June. I'm not sure if I call it "burnout" per say but lack of "enjoying myself". So I decided to test it by going to anime con alone and ngl, it felt quite good. I can do something on my own instead of hanging out my furry friends because it's been like this since I rejoined in 2022 so the feeling of burnout is slowly hitting me.
In August, I decided to put semi-hiatus for furry related until Oct. I will still talk to my furry friends but not in public and it did help me to balance it by doing something I like, such as my other hobbies.
Remember, you don't need to focus on furries all the time. You still can find other ways to enjoy it without them.
This came at an appropriate time. A lot of little things can accumulate to something big if you dotn address it and take those healthy steps to step away. I think im going to do a few of these and reasses.
Thanks!
This problem of burnout is perfectly logical and common in any walk of life.
Always doing the same thing over and over again, the stereotype and routine, sometimes need a change.
Even when we love something incredibly much, it just happens.
The problem comes in that moment if it's a forced activity, like a job or school, that you can't say, I'm not in the mood right now and I'm not coming.
With a hobby, we can take a break and do other things than usual.
Hugs ^^
I’m guessing this can also happen to people who do sports like fencing where you have a mask on for long periods of time?
ОтветитьAnd then there is the opposite phenomenon: Marginality. Being part of something but feeling detached/kept away from it (be it because of physical boundaries or personal social ineptitude).
Opposite problem, same result.
Thanks so much for talking about this, I feel this isn’t talked about much in the fandom and for a long long time I thought I was weird for feeling this way or worried I was gonna lose all my interest in my fandom.
ОтветитьGood advice Finn! There’s definitely a trick to finding a balance between furry stuff and real life.
ОтветитьBecomes interesting if you give very weak hints that you're a furry to people that don't know you are one to see who's intelligent enough to figure it out
ОтветитьBut when a Therian, you're stuck with it.
ОтветитьThank you for these tips, Finn! They're really needed right now.
After an active 6 years in the fandom, during burnout, I took a break from the furry fandom for a full 2-3 years.... And recently came back, and gosh, it's like a breath of incredibly fresh, warm, and so native air. I feel so much better now that I'm back, and I don't want to leave my house anymore.
I will try to learn the most necessary things for me from your advice. Thank you for your work!!! 💞
Burn out can even happen to anyone who's not a furry. Awesome video. Keep up the awesome job.
ОтветитьI learned this pretty quickly 6 years ago when I was doing nonstop furry cons and meets. Being able to take time away and have hobbies outside of the fandom is essential.
ОтветитьMy tactic is that I only wear my fursuit at cons, so only a few times a year. This way, it always feels so special when I put it on. It also makes me really yearn for cons even more (on top of meeting other furs and engaging in the events of the con).
ОтветитьThank you Finn great advice
ОтветитьThanks for illuminating me. ^^ Now I know what burnout is and how to avoid and recover from it.
ОтветитьI think I burned myself out permanently at some point. I was quite active in the fandom in the late 2010s but ever since 2020 I simply dropped all groups I was in and stopped attending cons. Haven't been able to recapture the old magic I used to feel. I do nothing but lurk in groups big and small, don't have interest in engaging or going out to meetups anymore. Something fundamental changed somewhere along the line
ОтветитьThis is a topic I don't see many people talk about, and I really appreciate this video. Not only for furry fandom, but quite honestly any of my hobbies that I have a tendency to get "too into". Great video!
ОтветитьMaybe I feel that early warning sign of the fatigue in the fandom. The feeling of "don't want to go to the furcon" is bigger than before. I've already decrease my furry activities on my social media but it's still. So, I do my best way, it's to keep it still fun in the fandom by keep it run side-by-side by your non furry activities & make it balance and don't forget to enable the "me time" feature in the end of each day so you can take care of yourself. That feature already in you. Fandom fatigue is because you put a lot attention to the fandom & can't take care of yourself & you worry about that. That's why "me time" feature comes to fix. If you need more to heal the fatigue just use that feature longer so no need to step back. I've done it since a long time ago & still stand until now, with out stepping back.

ОтветитьGoing to AFC refreshed a lot for me, made me want to stay in longer
ОтветитьAh yes talking purple cat
ОтветитьThis was a absolutely fantastic and informative video bro. I will definitely keep these tips in mind.
ОтветитьThis helped so so much thank you Finn
ОтветитьThank you for addressing this topic, Finn! The suggestion to limit social media time to an extent can really help, and I know how nice it can be to engage with folks in activities outside of just the fandom as well. I got introduced to some really cool people that way and some who I didn't know shared some of my other interests as well. Sometimes, even just chatting with friends in something non-furry related gave me ideas for artwork
ОтветитьHas anybody experienced this burn out with several interests and passions all at once?
ОтветитьThe Irony here is that the socially awkward recluses are the least likely to burn out.
ОтветитьSlowly getting burned out myself. Dived into it on 2015 and the first 3 years of it were awesome! But then I started coming across a lot of toxic people and then covid hit and things just kinda lost it's appeal to me. I'm trying like heck to stay interested in it but some people are making really hard for me. But I'm not going to let it beat me. I'm hanging in there...
ОтветитьGod I cant wait for the election to be done and over with so the adds will stop! I cant remember when the last time I have seen a non political add here on YT.
I have been around the furry fandom for greater than two decades and I have seen many people come and go. I think the majority go slowly as they just ether just slowly burn out or just slowly lose interest all together in furry things. Many lose interest in furry as they grow and find other interests and for them the furry fandom was just a fad that burned bright in them and as the years passed it just slowly burned out and that is OK.
One thing that does chase furries away is as they age the younger furs become a lot more hostile. I had not noticed the change as I was well into my 30s when I found the fandom and the young furries just out right ignored me from the beginning. But that will not be the case for furs who found the fandom in their teens and very early twenties who came into the fandom as being cool and hip and as the years pass the younger furs see them as less cool and less hip and treat them as such.
As someone who’s been in the Fandom for 30 years and has definitely suffered from burnout, it really is important to take time away every now and again. The chance to reset yourself is invaluable.
Excellent advice, Finn!
just dont be a furry idiot, easy solution. Sell your dumb costume. More money, more iq. Enjoy.
Ответитьthats a good reason why im not so invested in the furry community that much, there are other reasons but im not gonna say, yeah i am a furry and sure going to a con would be nice to go to one day, but i will never dedicate my whole life to being a furry and neither you any of you
ОтветитьMy future furry self will come back to this video and thank you too Finn 💜🎉
ОтветитьYes it's true burn out can hapen... it's a lot like artist block in a lot of respects but it's good to talk about it and work out strategies to keep burning bright... I have to do that with art to it helps
ОтветитьI find that having normy friends really helped me not get too burned out on the fandom.
ОтветитьLove your voice. Marry me?
ОтветитьYou're not "burned out," you're realizing that making your "fandom"(fetish) the most important part of your identity was an unhinged thing to do. Hope this helps 😅
ОтветитьThis happens to me with my hobbies and interests, too. I get really interested, and then I slowly get burned out from it. Sometimes your mind needs a change of pace from the same hobbies all of the time, so I find what helps me is getting back into one of my other hobbies while I "recharge" my motivation for my burned out hobbies. I've taken many breaks from the furry fandom in my 7 years of being in it. The longest one was about a year, and it really helped me rekindle my interest in taking part in this fandom.
ОтветитьYou videos would improve if you removed the bottom wall picture on the right of your videos. It is really distracting when watching your videos and NSFW.
Ответитьi remember having a 2 year burnout from 2021-late 2023 cause of getting deep into some really dumb drama and it fucked me up in the head, but getting back into it has been such a relieving feeling! i got to go my first furry con this year too. it felt like joining the fandom for the first time again and the pure magic of it was wonderful
ОтветитьThis is awesome I’m a part time furry i love looking at art sometimes and drawing it myself and even furred my own furr suit head base I don’t wear her all the time though i have a ton of other hobbies to this video definitely helps me out
ОтветитьThis is such an awesome video. I have not had this problem yet, as I've never been super involved in the fandom, don't have a fursuit, etc. Just always kinda watching from the sidelines and quietly drawing my sona. But recently, I have been pursuing a much more involved approach, and I think keeping everything you said in this video in mind going forward will help me prevent ever having this problem in the first place.
