How to Fix a Squeaky Belt (figure out where the squeak is coming from)

Chris, I have a power steering pulley that squeals. I know it’s power steering. When I hit it with water it goes away. And I’m just better replacing the pulley?

The squeak has been concerning me so this has been a relief to discover it's likely a tension issue since the onset of it was when turning on the AC or turning.

Where the gator belt link?

Every Dayco belt I have used squeaked. Interesting that I too wound up using the Gatorback belts.

Two detail items - belt install direction with your gator back belt and the free spinning bearing / pulley method for checking bearing - applicable here or no?

I'm from Canada and I can't find a gator back belt...Continental is replacing theirs to a 6 rib belt. Any ideas where I can get one for my Ram??

Our 2003 Honda Odyssey had the same squealing. We did the water spraying trick on the lower alternator pulley and the squealing went away. We confirmed that after removing the alternator belt, there was no squealing. Then replaced the alternator belt. The van ran without the squeal after that. Thanks !!!

I've noticed on my 2007 subaru forester, If i turn the air conditioning on, the belt will squeak for a second or two. Does anybody know what could be causing this??

I just came back from 6 week holiday and I've noticed a squealing noise from under the hood of my car when I turn on the A/C. In normal mode with A/C off the noise isn't present, but as soon as I turn it on, the squealing noise appears. What could've been the cause for this problem to occur and what is the fix? Keep in mind my car is only 3 years old (2020) and it only has 73000 km on the clock (about 45 000 miles)...

I only have a squeal on first startup and it doesn’t happen all the time? Was told it was a power steering pump but I’m not sure. I also installed all new belts and it still squeals on first startup?

i have a squeaky belt or pulley, when it rains or is wet in the morning its not wildly loud, have to roll windows down to hear it but its noticeable and then goes away in about 30 seconds, but there is still a very faint chirp/squeak once it quiets down and even on hot days. Does this sound more like a belt issue or pulley issue?

Drive a manual trans 4cyl. I have squeaking but only when I'm in a low gear (1st and 2nd) and just getting moving or when I shift to second while keeping my rpm under 1500rpm. Changed my belt recently and tensioner is still firm and it does it whether I have heat, a/c or nothing running so not sure what it is.

DUDE, I HAVE AN 06"SUBARU WRX STI...I REPLACED THE SERPENTINE BELT. MY GRANDPA HELPED ME, AND IT WAS EXTREMELY HARD TO GET THE BELT ON. AND THEN 4 DAYS LATER THE BELT SNAPPED...LSOOOO.... WHAT DO YOU THINK IS WRONG??

My 2000 blazer only does it when it is cold some mornings. As the engine warms up it goes away. Some days when it’s hot it won’t squeak at all. Any thoughts?

The more gator patterns the belt has, the less or no squeaking noise it makes. It’s scientific to discover because gators or humped belts causes less friction but holds tight when installed to all pulleys

I love old engine and engineering with mechanical fan that is always on. Never fails. All you need to do is fasten it once a year.
