Here is our complete edition of J.R.R. Tolkien's "Far Over the Misty Mountains Cold!"

Lyrics:

Far over the misty mountains cold
To dungeons deep and caverns old
We must away ere break of day
To seek the pale enchanted gold.

The dwarves of yore made mighty spells,
While hammers fell like ringing bells
In places deep, where dark things sleep,
In hollow halls beneath the fells.
For ancient king and elvish lord

There many a gleaming golden hoard
They shaped and wrought, and light they caught
To hide in gems on hilt of sword.
On silver necklaces they strung

The flowering stars, on crowns they hung
The dragon-fire, in twisted wire
They meshed the light of moon and sun.
Far over the misty mountains cold

To dungeons deep and caverns old
We must away, ere break of day,
To claim our long-forgotten gold.

Goblets they carved there for themselves
And harps of gold; where no man delves
There lay they long, and many a song
Was sung unheard by men or elves.

The pines were roaring on the height,
The winds were moaning in the night.
The fire was red, it flaming spread;
The trees like torches blazed with light.

The bells were ringing in the dale
And men they looked up with faces pale;
The dragon's ire more fierce than fire
Laid low their towers and houses frail.

The mountain smoked beneath the moon;
The dwarves they heard the tramp of doom.
They fled their hall to dying fall
Beneath his feet, beneath the moon.

Song of Durin:
The world was young, the mountains green,
No stain yet on the Moon was seen,
No words were laid on stream or stone
When Durin woke and walked alone.
He named the nameless hills and dells;
He drank from yet untasted wells;
He stooped and looked in Mirrormere,
And saw a crown of stars appear,
As gems upon a silver thread,
Above the shadows of his head.

The world is grey, the mountains old,
The forge's fire is ashen-cold;
No harp is wrung, no hammer falls:
The darkness dwells in Durin's halls;
The shadow lies upon his tomb
In Moria, in Khazad-dûm.
But still the sunken stars appear
In dark and windless Mirrormere;
There lies his crown in water deep,
Till Durin wakes again from sleep.

Part 2:
Far over the misty mountains grim
To dungeons deep and caverns dim
We must away, ere break of day,
To win our harps and gold from him!

The wind was on the withered heath,
But in the forest stirred no leaf:
There shadows lay by night and day,
And dark things silent crept beneath.

The wind came down from mountains cold,
And like a tide it roared and rolled.
The branches groaned, the forest moaned,
And leaves were laid upon the mould.

The wind went on from West to East;
All movement in the forest ceased.
But shrill and harsh across the marsh
Its whistling voices were released.

The grasses hissed, their tassels bent,
The reeds were rattling, on it went.
O'er shaken pool under heavens cool,
Where racing clouds were torn and rent.

It passed the Lonely Mountain bare,
And swept above the dragon's lair:
There black and dark lay boulders stark,
And flying smoke was in the air.

It left the world and took its flight
Over the wide seas of the night.
The moon set sail upon the gale,
And stars were fanned to leaping light.

Under the Mountain dark and tall
The King has come unto his hall!
His foe is dead, the Worm of Dread,
And ever so his foes shall fall!

The sword is sharp, the spear is long,
The arrow swift, the Gate is strong;
The heart is bold that looks on gold;
The dwarves no more shall suffer wrong.

The dwarves of yore made mighty spells,
While hammers fell like ringing bells
In places deep, where dark things sleep,
In hollow halls beneath the fells.

On silver necklaces they strung
The light of stars, on crowns they hung
The dragon-fire, from twisted wire
The melody of harps they wrung.

The mountain throne once more is freed!
O! Wandering folk, the summons heed!
Come haste! Come haste! Across the waste!
The king of friend and kin has need.

Now we call over the mountains cold,
'Come back unto the caverns old!'
Here at the Gates the king awaits,
His hands are rich with gems and gold.

The king has come unto his hall
Under the Mountain dark and tall.
The Worm of Dread is slain and dead,
And ever so our foes shall fall!

Farewell we call to hearth and hall,
Though wind may blow and rain may fall,
We must away, ere break of day
Far over the wood and mountain tall.

To Rivendell, where Elves yet dwell
In glades beneath the misty fell.
Through moor and waste we ride in haste
And whither then we cannot tell.

With foes ahead, behind us dread,
Beneath the sky shall be our bed,
Until at last our toil be passed,
Our journey done, our errand sped.

We must away! We must away!
We ride before the break of day!

Hobbit: an unexpected journey is amazing and pulling; Hobbit:the desolation of the smaug was even better; however five armies is where it felt apart. Plot ran short sonwas filled with unexpected lengthy bagtle scene and lathargic cgi fught battles.

I keep coming back to this, year after year.😊 Kid me remembers the dialogue from Bakshi, and I really like how this was put to music. I also REALLY like that Durin's song was dropped into tbe middle of it. In weird ways, it reminds me that their world isn't REALLY that old, sometimes, and I like to imagine standing in a place where the first Dearf, effectively, also once stood.

I spent my childhood in a house at the edge of a pine forest on the shores of the Baltic sea. My big brother with whom I lived there has always been a nerd, so it was always about fantasy and medieval atmosphere. We went to the woods, would come up with cool maps and legends of fictional worlds and of course I've watched all the movies on the Lord of the Rings 5 times over. I remembered those times we sat late in the evening with nothing but a dim warm lamp as I looked out into the dark pine forest hearing the howling of dogs (or maybe even those were wolves) and the cawing of crows. That feeling. That sense of distant great and wanderous something, not bright and full of joy, but neither dark and cruel... That feeling of something great and cold, something universal and so absolute that you seem insignificant in the face of it. This song is one of the few things that pinches those of my nerves that let me once again remember vividly that feeling. When I hear it I once again stand at the window gazing into the Estonian white night and see a raven sitting on the tree branch... cawing.

people evolved in Africa, from one common ancestor, a couple hundred thousand yrs ago Over time, some people walked out of Africa and spread across the world. The branches of the family that spent thousands of years in colder places without a lot of sun … eventually they lost much of their melanin and turned a bunch of different shades, depending on the conditions where they were.

… the king of Portugal had hired Zurara to write a biography of the king’s uncle – Infante Henrique … better known as Prince Henry the Navigator -1st major to exclusively enslave & trade continental

Writing in 1453, Zurara chronicles & glorifies Prince Henry’s voyage, a decade before. In describing resulting slave auction back in Portugal, in 1444…Zurara lumped together different-looking captives

So Zurara portrayed slavery as an improvement over freedom in Africa, where, he wrote, “They lived like beasts.” They “had no understanding of good, but only knew how to live in bestial sloth.”

Zurara’s writings were widely circulated among the elite in Portugal…& their ideas about continental Africans…led the way as human trade expanded among west Asian countries like Spain France & England

slave traders commissioned the invention of this sort of codified racist idea, of Black people and implicitly, then, on the other hand, of White people - out of pink-beige west Asian Africans - in usa

In 1682 … the first legislative body in colonial America The Virginia House of Burgesses passed a law limiting citizenship to Europeans - making all non-Europeans – “Negroes...”aka in English "BLACKS" as the law put it – quote, “slaves to all intents and purposes.” the 1682 law included the first documented use in the English-speaking colonies of the word “white” [vs English European or Christian] to describe [brown to lightest pink-beige west Asian Africans aka Europeans] considered full citizens. the defamation against [descendants of mt-MRCA] darkest brown to lightest pink-beige "black" is FUNdamental to Racism.

Racism is racial prejudice that has been incorporated into the activities and procedures of major institutions, corporations, social systems (such as those related to housing, education, and health), and other arenas of major social activity (such as politics, the media, finance, and banking) Racism serves both to discriminate against ethnic minorities and to maintain advantages and benefits for west Asian Africans colonial government invented "White" Americans mt-MRCA

~ descendants of mt-MRCA -- darkest brown to lightest pink-beige

All living humans descend in an unbroken line purely through their mothers, & through the mothers of those mothers, back until all lines converge on one woman -- mitochondrial eve

we became a species ranging from the darkest brown to the lightest, pink-beige, and everything in between … shades of brown with an array of yellowish and reddish tinges
