I have to say it wasn't just Joaquin Phoenix's performance that made the movie great, nor was it the tone on today's society. But Hildur Gudnadottir's composing. She really captured the loneliness the Joker had, an ill minded person just wanting to make it in the world, judged by his condition and binned by society. Hildur captured it well and deserved the Oscar just as much.
