Much of today’s individual and collective spiritual sickness is rooted in a term the Wiccan tradition refers to as glamour. The brutal competitiveness of zero-sum thinking, toxic individualism, cynicism, anthropocentrism, and many other root causes of suffering in the world are all glamours. They give those who are in their thrall an illusion of power while simultaneously stripping them of actual power.
This workshop teaches about the nature of glamour, how to analyze it, and how to work on dissipating it as both a path of self-liberation and as service to the world. Wiccan High Priestess Gwendolyn Reece will share a ritual that she created for dissipating glamour that can be used in a group or individually. Then, as an act of spiritual service, the group will collectively perform a ritual to dissipate a particular glamour. This will also give participants experience so that they can incorporate the ritual into their practice.
Gwendolyn Reece holds a Ph.D. in education and master’s degree in religious studies. She is the Associate University Librarian and Director of Research, Teaching, and Learning at American University. Gwendolyn has been a member of the Theosophical Society in America since 1999 and is a Wiccan High Priestess of the Assembly of the Sacred. She leads Theophania coven in Washington, D.C., and organizes the Sacred Space Conference, the largest annual esoteric conference on the east coast.
