Participation bias or non-response bias is a phenomenon in which the results of elections, studies, polls, etc. become non-representative because the participants disproportionately possess certain traits which affect the outcome.

first case of covid was in nov or dec 2019.

covid became known as a novel disease being spread in Jan 2020.

covid became a POSSIBLY threat to the US in late Jan 2020.
the earliest economic affects of covid were fed 2020, and realistically, it did not have any major effects in the US until Late Feb thru April, idk when exactly it really started affecting things.

I do not know when the recession in the US started, but i'm fairly sure it was mi to lat Q1 2020.

Beau has been pointing out a recession was looming even before then, like this video points out, but it seems to have held off until covid hit.

April 2019. The Yield Curve inverted. It was a MASSIVE inversion, which meant that recession wasn't only on the way, it was going to be devastating.
I knew that BECAUSE OF THE PANDEMIC, on the other side would be MASSIVE GROWTH in small businesses...because people had time to think about something different.

There is no good outcome with Dixiecrat Republicans in charge. They hate Americans and our LIBERTY.

Democrats grow the economy and republicans shrink it.
Keep in mind; that money in your pocket is not yours. It’s theirs.

This is true but when people feel nostalgia for trump's economy they are talking about prices. The other indicators mean nothing to them. Price increases of 25% is what affects them. They don't want to blame covid. They want someone to blame and they are blaming Joe Biden.
The majority of people in this country have no idea how the economy works. They actually think that if trump wins, the prices will go back to 2019 levels.

Obama handed off a booming economy to Trump, and it stayed that way for about 2 years, and economists were sounding the alarm just over a year into Trump's first term that Trump's policies were sending America careening into a recession, and if COVID never happened, it would only have postponed the impending recession for a year or two.

Lack of competent leadership during a pandemic was less than helpful. From a street-level perspective, TFG and his enablers were no friends to our country.
I have no fond memories of grocery store shelves with flour, sugar, milk, bread, meat, eggs, peanut butter and other items out of stock.
I do not long for the days of hoping a government stimulus check might arrive to help people in need.

It's a very well known phenomenon that the policies set up by a previous administration will continue into the early months or years of a new administration, purely because it takes time to go through every single department and replace all of the workers the previous administration hired and overhaul their internal practices. This is one of the reasons the early years of a bad government can look so good and the early years of a competent government can look so bad. A vengeful outgoing government can even salt the earth for the incoming government in a way by firing their good workers just prior to handing over the reins. I can guarantee that the tangerine took advantage of that in both directions.

This isn't limited to America, either. I'm Australian and very happy with our new party in power as of 2022, but the previous party was so rubbish and in power for so long that people are still complaining about crap that hasn't been fixed and wrongly attributing it to the new government.

Herbert Hoover also presided over a booming economy, up until the stock market crash in October 1929. It's easy to preside over good times that are inherited...you just don't rock the boat. What matters is how a president reacts to a crisis. Hoover botched his response to the Depression, Trump botched his response to Covid. Our great-grandparents had the wisdom not to let Republicans back in office for decades.

I hold Trump responsible for the pandemic.* In Trump's first year in office, he dismantled a number of key agencies that were put in place, since the Bush years, to monitor and contained deadly pandemics abroad. They were highly effective against a wide number of pandemics, and thanks to Trump, they have been slowing getting into the country. And several months before the pandemic hit the states, he actively covered-up the pandemic brewing in China and did nothing to contain it, and when it hit the US, he actively worked against all efforts to contain the outbreak and minimize deaths. All for what? The outbreak would take the limelight away from the job-numbers at the time, and Anthony Fauci was making him look bad.

*And before Trump fanboys get on me about the CPC cover-up thing: Yes they enabled the pandemic to happen with the cover-up, but there are plenty of blame to throw around; and your opinions are too damn unmoored from reality to really matter in anything. For example: Its hard to say you are "pro-life" anything when you wanted people to needlessly "die for the good of the economy."

I remember some idiot trump sycophant writing an article claiming “the shelves were never empty when trump was in office!” On some opinion piece a couple years back, luckily I took a photo of a local store in my area from around the end of 2019 or maybe around early 2020, shelves completely bare of anything that people could get ahold of during the initial panic over Covid and paired the excerpt from the article and my picture together and posted it online, goes without saying that it got quite the reaction lol

Its hard to argue with people when we used to have money in our pockets and the ability to spend on things we didn't need. Before trump wasn't bad as long as you didn't want to drive far, and before that we made way less but it went so much farther. I personally think both major parties should be straight up banned.

TFG will destroy the economy. Those who miss his economy, are the ones who profited off of it. You never hear a middle-class person, who's being serious, say that they did well with TFG's economy. Trickledown economics has never ever worked. Biden picked up some dangerous pieces and put the puzzle back together again. I'm not an economist, but I was a finance officer for years and I understand it somewhat. Give him 4 more years and it will be much better! But give him the House and Senate too and watch this country grow! Vote Blue!

It surprises me how many people forget Trump's Tr4ade Wars, the inflation they caused, the loss of jibs,m AND THE LOOMING RECESSION THEY HELPED CREATE. The economy in the first year of any President's term will be largely determined by their predecessor. They will not even propose a budget for several months. I am willing to give Trump the economic downturn in 2020 was mainly COVID, and I cannot quantify how much a "good" response would have changed things. So my question is, how did Trump do in 2018 and 2019?

My family bought our house at that time. It was initially beyond our means but because of the market indicators, we were able to pick it up well below market cost. There were a number of things that had to happen for us to afford the house, but because the market was weak and then turned around after Covid-19, we still own the place
