Top 10 Changes in Affinity Photo Version 2!

Long time subscriber here, great video as always!!!! Is Affinity Photo 2 an upgrade to AF 1? or is it a separate purchase. Lastly...if separate...do I need to keep both 1 and 2? Thanks in advance!

Affinity Photo 2 Ver 2.1.0 luminosity range mask　Do not show？

Ally; Affinity uses masks quite a bit to get work done. Having been a PS user for 30 years. I never did use masks much. While a "get it" when you are showing adjustments but I tend to just lose it all and get confused. I want, in the worst way, to get rid of PS altogether. It costs too much and Affinity was chosen as the replacement. I do use GIMP when I'm in Linux but that is for small adjustments. Have you, or would you consider. doing a video on nothing but explaining masks in general...like a 10-minute lesson? I also have Affinity Designer which I am still learning. I bought that course already. BTW do you think Affinity would ever add neural filters at some point? Thanks and keep these vids coming.

love these. the adjustments mask was making me mental. i knew there had to be a secret, no one they would rid that. whew.

have been using Affinity Photo and Design ver1. I have not used Publisher. I have a Avada wordpress website that I want to redesign.
Would Affintiy Publisher help with the new website?
Also curious if the Selection brush tool in Affinity Photo V2 has gotten more accurate and easy to use.

Hi thanks for the video. I have some questions:
1) I have the old version of the three programs for windows. Do you advise me to switch to version 2 considering that I also use a mac (where, however, I had not yet installed the suite)?
2) I noticed that version 1 of affinity photo doesn't open files created with version 2 even if simple. is there a way to fix it?
3) how long do you think version 2 will last before version 3? if I'm not mistaken the 1 came out in 2015
4) By the way I tested v2 both in mac and windows (equivalent hardware) and on mac it seems more responsive. Did this happen to you?

Nothing what would get me excited for.. I use original.. no copy paste your setting that you could do fast based editing

Does AP2 still work with capture 1 Express, which has great raw converter and digital asset manager? If not, the new features in AP 2 are not enough to encourage an upgrade

Won't be going with v2 when v1 works just as good....only problem I have is that I wish the upgrade would change v1 in to v2. I hate having to drop a program when something new comes out....i know not every one cares about having two different programs but i would pay a upgrade that changes v1 to v2 instead.i fell it's a waste so no reason for me to upgrade. What also sucks is not every one is going to making videos on v2 only....

While the vector warp, book and shape builder additions to publisher and designer are HUGHE, in my opinion, photo got by far the biggest update.

Does AP v2 process the new RAW files from OM System OM1 camera?

You all are giving Photoshop a run for its money.

I've not long brought the trinity 3, it said I get free updates but I guess I get none, I was under the impression that v2 would be free, obviously I would of waited if I knew. And it's not working on Windows 11, so when I upgrade to Windows 11 then its like serif has robbed me as there most likely won't be any updates to V1.
If they don't get it working on Windows 11 then I'd never recommend or buy from serif ever again, at least they could promise us that they'll stand by its customers and fix this issue. I'd rather have a dedicated ssd with windows 10 on it just for this program than buy v2 and support a company that doesn't seem to care less for its customers.

My lady please help me. I use the stream deck to open softwares and for some reason, Affinity V2 doesn't have aor doesn't create a windows 🪟 Desktop Shortcut and now I can't open the software from the stream deck.

Hi, does anyone know, if Affinity Photo exports JPEG XL in lossless or lossy quality? Haven't seen any options to choose.

where is VIEW>STUDIO in the Affinity 2? It is missing. How to I get to "Studio?"

When you add an adjustment layer, it is a new layer above the image layer. When I add an adjustment layer it is NOT a separate layer, it is the same layer. Any ideas why?

I just got the 2.0 trifecta. I know nothing about Photo. I'm looking at your "Affinity Photo for Beginners" course. I have a few questions before purchasing:
1. How relevant is this course to the 2.0 overhaul and will it just be confusing to follow along by having to find additional resources to understand how menu items / functionality has moved?
2. What is the date you expect to release a 2.0 update for this course? Will I get an automatic update or credit for the new course by purchasing the 1.x course now?
3. Do you have bundle pricing for your Photo (and Designer courses)?

Thanks for that great video. How did you zoom in on the photo in the export window? No matter what tool I am using when I go to the export window, the tool switches to the grabbing hand. In your video, all I can tell is that you are using the pointer and somehow clicking on the image. Help, please!

Maybe it is my TV, but I definitely can see big difference between 90% and 100%

I'm an artist. I shoot photos of my work in RAW and then process them for production of high quality giclee prints. My biggest problem is getting yellows and oranges to the correct hue. My work uses colour in very complex ways and I'll often have hundreds of different colours, with many hues varying in very subtle ways. My problem is that despite studio lighting and RAW shooting it is most difficult to capture the variations in yellows and oranges. It seems that if I get all the other colours right, then the yellows will be off and vice versa. To date I have had to resort to selecting all the yellow areas individually and adjusting the colour manually. This can take hours and hours. I was wondering if the hue mask will help me in this, or if it will read the yellows in my greens and adjust those with the yellows? My question in a nutshell: will I be better off with V2? Thanks for your videos and courses, without them I'd be totally lost.

I'm disappointed with Affinity update. I'm pretty sure Affinity is also holding out on new features of their software on us. They were just in it for the money on this update.

Any batch processing of raw photos possible now? (ie: make basic adjustments to 1 photo, save it as a preset and apply automatically to a series of RAW pictures without having to do it 1 by 1?)

I can drop the money now for the discount for Photo and Designer. Hoping Serif sticks with updating it like Affinity 1 suite so that even if the current changes are mostly QoL and things that should have been an update to Photo 1 (non-destructive RAW). The way I see it, this is basically CS2 to CS3 where CS3 had features but mostly changed the appearance with QoL items bundled and then hopefully the CS4-CS6 levels of improvement/updates can happen over time with Photo/Designer 2.

I do wish Serif would take some time to develop a version of Bridge and provide an importer/library management system. There's already a lot of RAW development apps like darktable, Capture1, etc, so I don't really expect them to try and shoehorn their CameraRaw tool into said library management system, but it would be nice to have a selfcontained workflow for easy backup and grouped storage (I import an image from a card, that card is moved over to the assigned library folder + date or whatever, then if I select it to edit it's automatically grouped within the management software grouped with an affinity file that just contains the linked raw edits. From there the edit and base raw is a "single" group entry in the library, I could scan over it seeing all the edits, and then export from there using Affinity's export tool. TBH I would pay an extra 20 bucks for that tool on its own if it received the same quality updates for efficiency, bug fix, etc as the other Serif programs. I could pretty much replace my lightroom/photoshop workflow at that point unless I really need a specific tool/feature.

Ally is a wonderful teacher and has taught me a lot about the original version of Affinity I now use, and really like. However, there is not much in this new version that would speed up the workflow on the projects I do. I'll wait around for Affinity's answer to Luminar NEO, then I'll start getting excited about an upgrade.

I'll wait on version 1 for now. Affinity is already way too powerful for me (the only thing that could improve for my use is InPainting, I used to work with a much better tool in Pixelmator, I switched to Windows and now I use Affinity which is better for the most part but not on the InPainting tool).

PS. I got Affinity photo last year (dec-2021) for 38,49 €, this new version 2 in discount cost € 48,99, that's 10,50€ more for a discounted 2 version. I don't think that's worth it for a software that I just got.

Alison, are you aware of the insane usage of RAM in version 2? How does one fix this? We could open so many files in Version 1.9, now it ramps up over 3.4 GIGS of RAM on just two files.

Another great video but there is one bit of info I wish had been included = what is the cost of moving from V1 to V2?

As with yiour courses I was Impressed by your excited evaluation and description so I bought it. I use Lightroom as my catalog and Photo as an external editor . I have just "pointed" Photo.exe to enab;e this.

Some nice changes. I'm mostly excited by the luminosity & hue masking. Having Serif make a big deal that their RAW editing is not destructive is actually kind of embarrassing for them. Most RAW editors have been non-desctructive from the get go.

In my opinion as a long term Affinity full suite user, I think Serif have lost the faith of its original fan base. Yes, it is cheaper than Adobe but existing users are being put in the same category as a new user. Why no special price for existing users? For a few dollars more discount Serif might have had many more upgrades. Besides, again in my opinion, the new changes in V2 are not AMAZING compared to V1. Some may be to some people and for pro users it is probably worth it. No doubt over the next 2-3 years some really good changes may be introduced, but then what will happen in V3? The same no doubt. One or two good upgrades but overall underwhelming and yet the programs will need to be purchased again. I will stay with V1 until it breaks then I will cast around for a replacement which may or may not be Affinity. Because loyalty needs to be two-sided.
