If you had ever worked on a ships engine for real, you would know that they are not called "injectors (you get them on truck engines) they are called "fuel valves", and its not "lubrication oil", its "lubricating oil". The chat about "charge air" being called that because it comes fro a turbocharge is not the case: its charge air because it charges the cylinder. So many small errors spoil this for me, but then I was a 3rd engineer before I left the sea, not a second-trip cadet

To reduce internal power absorbtion, is there a process for venting the 20 psi air below the piston on the power stroke ?

Can I ask what application is this Sir? This is very useful to teach students of Maritime schools studying Marine Engineering

We keep HFO at 45 deg C to transfer from storage tanks to settling tanks. In settling tanks we maintain a temperature of 85 deg C. After that, before injection in the engine the temperature is increased in fuel module to 125 deg C at a 7 bars. pressure

Thank you. That's very informative. When the piston is on its compression travel uncovers the air inlet ports will the the air pressure at one and a half atmospheres from the manifold, and the negative pressure created by the rising piston, will the void become pressurised above ambient pressure? Would that pressurised air then be forced back into the charge air manifold by the combustion stroke? Alternatively are there valves to negate that, but just not shown?

The right propeller is spinning in the wrong direction. ...or it's pitch is incorrect.

I apologize for being a grammar Nazi, but an educational video like this shouldn't be using "times" as a verb. The proper word is multiply.

Everybody talks "driving electric cars" but the vast majority of sips are still driving with Heavy Fuel Oil. We have to overcome this antediluvian concept of "nations", at last. We have to grow up as humans. We all live on an insignificant pebble thats drifting through cold nothingness. What's wrong with all the people who don't get it? How ignorant can you be? Heavy fuel oils - why? Because of greed.

Were I designing that ship, I would put 2 huge variable-pitch propellers on it, 1 on each side.
When you needed to apply the brakes (you would wish your ship had brakes, if you were about to hit something) You reverse the props"") i.e. rotate the blades of the propellers so they stop pulling the boat forward , and start pushing the boat backwards. Eventually this will put your ship into reverse, but before that happens, this will cause it to slow down. Thus the propellers will act like a brake or a reverse gear. You can do this while landing an airplane.
When you reverse the pitch of the starboard prop whilst leaving the port prop alone, they will attempt to make your ship rotate with the rudder being the axis. This will enable you to go around a corner. Think about it.

Exhaust emissions from marine diesel engines comprise nitrogen, oxygen, carbon dioxide (CO2), carbon monoxide (CO), oxides of sulphur (SOx), nitrogen oxides (NOx), hydrocarbons, water vapour and smoke. Oxides of nitrogen and sulphur are of special concern as threats to vegetation, the environment and human health.

My Dad served on an armored cruiser (USS Rochester, coal fired sister ship of the Maine) at the end of WWI. Engine rooms then were an even more unpleasant space than they are now, but at least the black gang could cook stew on their shovels in the furnace (not good for efficiency, though). Great tutorial, thank you.
