Jim Cornette on Jonathan Gresham Cursing Out Tony Khan

ROH ruined wrestling in the past 20 years. They tried to mainstream twinks/ flying monkeys posing as legit wrestlers doing circus.
No wonder the company got closed. Wish it would have happened earlier.

Johnathan and Ahmed share African heritage but nothing else and I'm not surprised you'd make the comparison though because in a way it's about their heritage. Short answer; Johnathan was 5'4 since he entered into wrestling and Black. He's talented,can talk on the mic and is both respectful and dedicated. The problem is what it always seems to be. He's Black and if you look at AEW there are no main event Black people in the company. Not even Jade Carhill. (If you don't believe me then ask yourself why she's never the main event even though she's undefeated and holds a title.) The majority are used as comic relief or enhancement talent. Yes he wrestled outside the company because ROH shut down and he had to earn a living. Keith Lee is as close as you get to someone with major time and hopefully things will change. They need some Samoans and other heritages in their company too.

I'm going against Cornette on this for various reasons. First thing is Cornette usually blasts Tony for not being able to make decisions that need to be made for the sake of the business and the company. According to this version of the story, Tony did exactly that and Jim didn't credit him for that. Tony organized a slightly more than squash match and disregarded Gresham. As for Gresham's standing, it appears he actually has a legitimate case as the belt was built on Gresham's runs and defense of it and he has a right to look for a build up that allows both workers to get over in a sound match. On paper, this should have been a great match.

I could say Gresham should have gone to Tony over weeks, but I can't say if that's possible, but it's also possible Gresham wanted to cruise. Ultimately, even as an outgoing champion from a defunct company it's Khan's responsibility to keep that communication going.

I think the PWI 500 is a good barometer of how over a wrestler is. Nobody can say that those in the top 10 don't draw and they are in the top 10 because they draw.

I'd be pissed off too if I had to lose my title to a guy who has had, what? 4 AEW matches? 5 maybe? Nothing against Claudio, good for him I guess, but fuck that noise. And he lost it with no buildup to the match AND you have to open the show like that?

My exposure to Gresham is limited to his couple AEW bouts, and honestly, I do not rate the guy. I am sure Gresham is a quality worker, in the technical sense of the word, but unlike Claudio, Danielson or even John Silver, he lacks any interesting character about him. It is not surprising TK wanted a new ROH champion and, as shitty as it must seem for him, Gresham should be greatful to of had a 200+ day run with the world title to begin with.

I think that Tony Khan was born in the wrong decade. He needed to be around in the early 1900s to 1940s. When local circuses and carnivals had side shows. I mean we have booted ladies little people lizard boys who is at Joe Ryan he would have the town pervert on his payroll

Compare greshams attitude to that of Josh Woods, Woods was asked to do the job and drop the pure championship to Yuta, he did it without complaints, he came in and did some jobs on dark and was happy to do so, he acted professionally and now he's getting a contract while Gresham gets to sit at home and sulk without a job to show for it

Wrestling has never neen good because every promotor on the planet is a dibshit moron who believes top stars vs jobbers should still be a thing, that's why nobody watches wrestling and switched to UFC. Connor McGregor isnt going to fight some dude from UFC fight night, he's given real challenges each fight, thats how wrestling should be, evenly kayfabe ranked wrestlers competing against one another.

I don't really time matches, unless that's the point or it's really bad, but Tony could have gave Jonathan fifteen minutes, or maybe he did and Jon just wanted it over. I know the old school ROH fans would have spoken their minds and flooded the internet, to the best of their ability, about a sub fifteen minute world title match, but I didn't see or hear much of that this time, so I didn't think much of it until I read message to CM Punk telling him to stand up for Gresham(huh, there's more to it?) and Big Swole(why?).

The PWI500 thing would be stupid with anyone else except Tony Khan is the one promoter in the world who takes PWI seriously - they've ranked his wrestlers highly before and he's splashed it all over his marketing. That could've been Gresham being ridiculous or he might have a good idea of how to impress Tony

And at least Gresham got to drop the strap on PPV, unlike Deonna Purazzo who got a 5 minutes match on Dynamite after everyone had left the building.

I'm more surprised about the fact Gresham was able to find Tony Khan to curse at him. From what everyone's been saying he's impossible to find fr anyone who isn't in his playset of action figures. He runs away from everyone else and hides until their contracts expire and they go away.
