Hits and misses with this documentary. The elephant in the room, Zimbabwe and SA should not be used as case studies, both shared the same issue, both ended up in the same spot yet both took different routes to get there. Zimbabwe chose to kick out the white farmers and hand it to their cronies and SA chose to keep the Boer white farmers but both countries have the same level of poverty. SA gets to enjoy loans and financial backing from the West and Zimbabwe gets financially sanctioned. There lies the only difference. Mugabe did sign the Lancaster Agreement that aimed to solve the white farmers issue but the UK didn’t fulfil its side of the deal. SA probably could have negotiated the same type of deal (Mandela didn’t have the appetite -Probably because he Became a Mason after leaving jail) but also there’s no guarantee the West would have fulfilled its side of the deal. This leaves room for Anarchy, corruption and for old wounds and post colonial traumas to arise again, as you can see in SA they’re not out of the woods just yet and the Boer farmers issue persists as it looks like Malema might win the next election. Both countries probably need to force the issue with the West AGAIN so they can pay compensation to the settlers as opposed to Zimbabwe and SA pay on their behalf. All parties deserve to be safeguarded and financially compensated but the burden lies with the western countries, hence both should not be case studies as both are too complex and political. Remember the Slave Owners in the UK, Americas and Caribbean ALL got paid compensation up until 2018. So clearly there is money for that in the West (USA can print billions of dollars as they own the petroleum dollar market) and only thing missing now is the willingness and appetite for this to happen.

This was a poor video in many senses. It’s hard to express why, but the tiny inaccuracies /omissions kept piling up to the point where I couldn’t take it seriously

For example, the Nigerian economy’s woes over the past 8 years were glossed over. So was the fact that the GDP is concentrated largely in the South due to half of the country (the North) being completely inept.

it would be better to use income equality is an indicator of how well these countries are performing, diversifying income flow and building a strategy remains the smart way to prepare for the unexpected, stocks are falling and bond yields are rising, but markets fluctuations don't seem convinced, the Federal Reserve will pursue plans to keep increasing interest rates until inflation is under control. I'm still at a crossroads deciding if to liquidate my $ 300,000 stock portfolio, I want to be clear with the situation in stock prices, housing, and the financial market in general, if there are efficient ways to maximize profits without liquidation due to market fluctuations, I am open to ideas

The worst performers are usually those with quasi-socialist governments or those that have civil wars or worse Islamist insurgencies. Nothing will improve there until those things get eliminated.

The characterization of South Africa is a little misleading. South Africa is dealing with a lot of corruption that is killing the economy right now. The government Power Utility, Eskom, is unable to produce enough power to keep the lights on throughout the country because cartels have been siphoning off funds to make themselves richer, and people who have tried to resist have wound up dead or threatened (see former Eskom CEO Andre De Ruyter's explosive interview before he resigned and fled the country).

As a consequence, power stations that should have been built simply have not been and maintenance on existing power stations has been spotty at best. We've lived through many days of having no power for 8-12 hours per day at the worst. This is killing South Africa's GDP growth.

And though I'm can't dispute the rise of the middle class in SA, if it's true that the middle class is growing, the sobering counterweight to that fact is that the unemployment rate hovers around 32%, which is mind-boggling.

There's a candidate running in 2024 whose platform is about abolishing minimum wage so that employers can hire more workers without having to increase the labor budget (which is a crazy idea to begin with--it creates a race to the bottom, not prosperity). The unemployment rate is even higher for young people just finishing school, which is why many young people in South Africa aren't optimistic about the future.

No one is willing to go to Africa for a Chinese worker to work without a salary of 3,000+ US dollars. So my African friends, what you should reflect on is why the Chinese would rather spend dozens of times the salary to let Chinese people do things instead of Africans. I have heard too many stories about the hardships of Chinese companies in Africa. Employees cooperate with thieves to steal things, the government demands bribes, and employees work one day and have two days off...

Extremely biased video where the narrator places entire blame of Africa's economical state on the governance and completely ignore how Europeans still control African economy, the shady corrupt deals done by whites in Africa and installation of puppet governments and dictators as part of Americas foreign policy is completely ignored.

What a shame!

Great video, very interesting and it is good to hear that a good number of African countries are having good growth, long may it continue. Goodness though, countries that ended up with Communist governments ended up with corrupt elites that damaged the wealth of the people? I can't believe it. Surely Capitalism can't be successful in a modern world, it isn't fair to have people going hungry when the unelected elite have everything, oh, hang on that is Communism isn't it?

The economic growth in Africa has to do with who colonized who. If you were colonized by the English your best off, if colonized by France, your either a neo colony of France or a former French settler colony, the Portuguese and Spanish colonies are average for growth, the democratic republic of the Congo was just too large to govern into a single state to begin with, and countries independent of formal colonization (Ethiopia and Liberia) are scrapping by (Italian controlled regions aren’t doing so well for growth, but the worst metric for growth are the countries under the control of the west African franc).
