When my mother lost her best friend marlena, she was so devastated. She would always listen to this song and cry. She would tell me she felt like no one else understood her. I miss my mother now and listen to it here or there. Makes me cry for her and my pain.

Note how similar the intro speaking voice is in terms of its unique signature to the singing voice. A rare vocal and song writing talent.

This song really resonated with me when I was a kid in the seventies. James Taylor has a very comforting voice. All the tragedy that we go through as humans. This nails it.
