I really respect and love this woman from what I've seen here, and I can respect a vow to God on an even higher level, but I don't know her face, I could not recognize her in the street, and I don't see that as compatible with European culture. Without knowing her she would make me feel uncomfortable in the street, aside from the bombings paranoia many still carry, it's 'sinister' on a deeper level here. Historically masked people were not up to good intentions. Also a strong argument- what is the freedom of choice when one of these choices carries a connotation on one's moral and pious level in a religion that is greatly oppressive to women. You are inadvertently supporting some women being forced to wear it, directly or societally. Would you in wisdom not simply choose a different vow? I would.

It resembles Catholic submission to God through a life of celibacy. I think if there is a god, he's laughing at it.

Women should be free to make choices, no matter how patriarchal those choices are. But can this argument extend to women accepting abuse from partners insisting it's their choice to forgive the abuser and continue to live with him? Choices that symbolically or practically condone patriarchy are "free" choices any way.

MUSLIM FATHER -. I have 3 daughters that are completely different in there dress code. In my family we all express our spirituality differently. From the 4 women in my family , the only one that wears a headscarf is my youngest daughter ,14 years old , and turning 15 tomorrow ,which by the way was her choice to make to make ., and I must say that I am so proud of her , because she will not leave the house without wearing her head scarf. Only once you have a true connection to god or some form of medium that you pray too will you understand devotion to a higher power , and once that happens only then will you truelly feel what is freedom like, and once you have achieved that , only then will you understand what life and living life is - HAPPINESS and PEACE - which all mankind desires
