Why does an MRI sound like a diesel engine when you are going through it?

I had a long-term concussion. Took a year to recover to about 85% of my prior life, and that was it. Avoid little cars, they juggle your neck which juggles your brain. Good luck.

This video is so informative. The disrespectful NHS doesn't explain anything to people before referring for a MRI; I wouldn't trust the person operating it to get me out- I can imagine them going for a fag break or hanging around the water cooler and returning in a couple of hours with, 'soz, forgot 'bout yoh'. Even if you got a scan privately, whereby staff would have to provide a service that people are willing to pay for, whether it would be worth going through it or not would depend on how good the radiologist who interprets the scans is. Some websites say small metal objects are OK, like earrings- why is that disagreement there? From watching this, it doesn't sound like it would be a good idea to go in the scanner wearing jewellery.

I am working in a research institute for MRI Simulation and they have their own MRI that I will get to visit and operate after some initial training, Can't wait to get my hands on this thing.

it's so sad to think there's "something behind the scenes" in MRI. it's just straight up self explanatory naming. this content is really poor.

This is incredibly interesting! I had brain cancer and am far too familiar with MRIs than I'd like to be. I got them for well over two years, and was getting them every three months for a year, then every six months, then yearly. I am 13 years with no evidence of disease, and no longer getting them. I got to know the sounds the machine made and would start making these techno beat-box type of songs along with it because wtf else are you supposed to do for 2 hours? I'd then hear, "I'm glad you're having fun in there, but your mouth was moving, and we have to re-do that set." 😂😂

I just had an MRI on 8/25/23. They were looking for Multiple Sclerosis lesions by the brain stem or in the spinal column. It took 90 minutes to complete the full scan but a major problem began to occur. I was in a near fatal car accident in 1999 where I had a seizure and smashed into a stopped SUV going 45mph. My head smashed the windshield damaging three disks in my neck, between the shoulder blades and also the lower lumbar. Because no one could have known this was about to happen, a blanket was tucked around me to keep me from moving. Little did anyone know what was happening to me until the test was done. When the technician told me to release the emergency bulb, I tried but nothing worked. It seemed I was completely paralyzed from the neck all the way down to my feet. The long time in the machine caused pressure in the C3 all the way down to C7 pinching the spinal column and the paralysis. It took 3 people to get me off the machine and onto a wheelchair to be examined. I didn’t blame the hospital, no one could have known what was happening, neither did I since the blanket kept me from moving anything except my mouth. What a day, that night my legs gave out and I hit the top of my head knocking me unconscious. Such is life I guess. Btw, I’m 80 years old.

with the risk of metal near the mri .. i'd think that they put metal detector at the entrance and lock the door if you have something on you...?

Does the "no metal" rule apply to all metals or just ferromagnetic ones? If it's all metals, what do you do with a patient with a titanium hip implant?

MRI is the worst procedure ever . I was in the middle of one and someone lightly touched my foot from toe to heel of my foot. I wanted to kill that person but stayed still cause i never wanted to be in that machine ever again in my life.

I had MRI on my knee because I have lump. The staff were really reassuring. They let me listen to music of my own choice as it was like a Jack Hammer sound. I was in for about half an hour and they talked in the control room. I panicked when I felt like my knee cap was being lifted up by a magnet. I had the panic button and they came in reassuring everything was well. Interesting machine. But really loud.

It was tough watching this for me, but I needed to know what happened to me. I was having an MRI to prepare for surgery for cervical stenosis. On the way to the MRI I was having mild paralysis. I was still able to go from the wheelchair to the MRI by myself. In the MRI, they placed the cage around my head, and then placed a pillow under my feet. At that point, I felt felt an electrical sensation down my spine and across my waist. When the MRI was over, I was paralyzed from the neck down. I went straight into surgery. I am still a quadriplegic, but I have gained the use of my arms somewhat. I guess for me this was a mental step in recovery watching this. Thank you.

I was subjected to an MRI scan at Region's hospital in St Paul, MN. After the prolonged scan, I felt like I had a concussion. Was paralyzed for an hour and it took me a full day to recover from the shock it caused. Then to make matter worse, the idiots at Region's sent me a medical report which indicated that nothing happened during the exam. I needed a report of that shock as I was applying for disability coverage. But those jackasses didn't give a damn and lied in their report. When I complained to a medical board about malpractice they stood up for their pals at that corrupt hospital. All those morons care for is to collect their money -- they don't give a goddamn about anything else. May they all go to Hell where they belong.

Goodness I just had an MRI and I was so claustrophobic, I nearly hit the panic pump thing and that was only 15 minutes, I couldn’t imagine being in there as long as that guy was. I also completely forgot to take off my wedding ring, but I never noticed anything happen but I’m assuming that’s because it’s gold and not magnetic.

Yea my brother didn't get one of the those squeeze balls because the blue haired MRI tech forgot to give him one and he ended up needing it. He is dead now. All the Dennis Nedrys of the world work in hospitals. look at those pretentious Tron lights on the front of the MRI. I don't hate MRI, just the hospitals and staff that surround them like flies on a turd.

I don't know what reason he's acting as if he's under an NDA with the magnet quenching protocol. There's plenty of videos available online of MRIS being quenched, they're incredibly dangerous machines if not used properly or if someone hasn't been screened properly before going into one.
They're dangerous but very important and if you follow all of the protocol and you need an MRI they can be a lifesaver, just because they seem scary does not mean you should avoid them. They could save your life.
