Your list of challenges is great! I work for an ISV and in my humble opinion the flexibility is the greatest "issue" even for us: Our CEO regularly comes up with "great" ideas. We (development) tell him, that yes, it's easy to implement within a couple of days but it's going to be one hell of a challenge to support across our entire customer base.

Did i hear that right, that flexibility becomes a cover for all the change management issues you may have? What a load of rubbish. In my experience it is the fickle understanding by IT of what change management is or isn't and IT's lack capability to understand the business requirements because IT believe IT solutions make change. IT solutions are simply a tool for the business; people make the change, these tools become over engineered through customization due to IT not being able to deliver on the requirements. Change Management tries to soften the issues coming out of IT. I think Eric what you are actually saying is that IT technicians try to use change management as an excuse for their poor performance when out of the box solution go completely muck and cause more disruption than good and cause budgets to blow sky high. Right?

The ISV message is not right. You’re mistaking the old model with VARs to the new model with ISVs and SIs... ISVs are not normally implementors, but might assist with deep knowledge to the SIs. 😉
