Has anyone ever heard the Mockingjay pin theory? Basically because the mockingjay was the sign of the rebellion the people who are there during the reaping saw her badge and decided to choose Prim because of it. Where Katniss volunteered for her and was given the badge by Prim to protect her and when Cinna ❤ (may he rest in peace. Love him) saw the pin he didn't say anything because he then knew that Katniss is going to be the Mockingjay, designing chlothes for her that got him killed and the mockingjay outfit. Soooooo.....

This scene is soooo creepy!!!!! 😭 Effie is hella creepy in this scene too. Everything about this scene is so stressful. No one gives Katniss a second to process anything which just adds to the stress…the way Effie hurries her to come on stage even tho she’s going through so much emotion is both stressful and devastating.

Gotta love how Peeta’s looking around wishing or hoping someone will volunteer for him 😢😭

I loved that there was no music when prim was picked. It made it feel more dystopian and realistic

i still dont understand how the age range started so young and had children just all of a sudden become warriors... did they think a 12 year old tiny girl would actually be able to stand a chance in battle??? AND she still died in the end??? Just not fair all around.

Prim’s screams when she was taken from Katniss was good though
the actress really captured Prim’s fear of losing her sister, especially since everyone assumed that Katniss would die coming from District 12

It just fascinates me how the host lady can keep up the facade of the bright cheerful tv presenter with a sea of young faces who all know this is little more than a delayed execution for two of them.

All the people talking about Prim’s bad luck..Rue had that exact same luck, with no volunteer.

I love movies that generate thought and discussion. This show took a fairly subtle but unmistakable jab at reality television. It also made me think that given what has happened throughout history and in the Roman Coliseum in particular, it might not be that far fetched to wonder if something this barbaric might happen sometime in the future.

You know rewatching the movies and the newest one even some of the peacekeepers look surprised and upset. Which is great directing because it is a huge part of the story volunteering outside of the carriers is practically zero to none. So EVERYONE expect Effie realize how messed up this situation is.

And to think - this scene is what sets the entire chain of events that leads to the rebellion against the Capitol in motion, because one young woman wanted to save her younger sister. If Katniss had never volunteered, Prim would have died in that arena - and the entire thing would have never happened, because Katniss wouldn't have shown respect and solidarity to District 11 at Rue's death.

District 12 is one if the poorest and you can see it in the dress Katniss is wearing.😢😢😢😢

Everyone in the colonies looks like they live in the 1940’s, and everyone in the capital looks like they live in the 3040’s

It sickens me how in the movie people see that as normal. Teens and children killing each other for the entertainment of others

Twice did all the boys and girls in this scene escape the reaping, but probably most of them were some of the bodies Katniss saw after Snow bombed 12.

This is the moment where everything changed. A system where everyone is a slave to tyrants has finally a chance to be free by one girl who'd protect not only her loved ones but for everyone the nation of free people.

Prim tried to go up and accept because she didn't want her sister to be in danger. It's only when she hears Katniss volunteer that she really loses it.

75 years of making children murder each other for entertainment. And the Capitol thought one of the tributes being pregnant was too far and demanded the game be stopped. That’s exactly how the “pro life movement” behaves in real life.

Something small I appreciate about this series is the "ladies first". In another story they probably would have reaped Peeta first, and saved the big dramatic moment for the end, but not here. Instead we have a little girl screaming and the funeral salute and then Effie just has to move on and keep going. It happens and then its over and life goes on and another name is called without fanfare. It feels more realistic, somehow, even if its just a 50/50 shot technically. Just the fact that the world doesn't stop for Katniss and the horror of it.

Peeta was also looking for Peeta Mellark 😭🙏

I would think people would stop having kids in this situation. Either out of fear or protest. No kids, no games.

If Effie's hand had gone just an inch or two to the left or right, everything would've been different.

I love how Prim’s screams remind me of a misbehaving child who is getting taken out of church to get a talking to.

I started out hating the one with the big hair and when the series was over I loved her

Just imagine if Katniss didn't volunteer.....if Prim had to go to the Games instead.....

I feel like the impact of this scene is sort of lost by them adding the “Omg I had a nightmare I got picked” scene for Prim at the beginning of the movie cuz it wasn’t in the book.
