Chuck's chin was never the same after that second Rampage fight. His speed was still there, but his ability to take a punch wasn't. In that last loss, he didn't even have speed anymore. Some legends die hard.

If you look at how he lost to Rich Franklin, the punch he took to the chin was not even that hard. Sure it was right at the button, but Chuck just had too many KO defeats already that his Jaw was not as it used to be

In his prime he was a talented kickboxer who had good takedown defense. But here are things that contributed to his decline
1. He did not stay disciplined. You can tell that he just was out of shape when he fought rampage for the second time. He was known to party a lot in night clubs even though he was supposed to be on training camp
2. His style got easily figured out. Chuck reigned in the sport when fighters were still one-dimensional. Those who did grappling grappled, he was good at kickboxing so that is what he stuck with. Unfortuantely he never sought to improve his game as he aged. I mean when you are older, your reflexes diminish.
3. He stuck around too long. He should have been all done the moment he lost to Rashad.

Chuck letting shogun up when he had him down was obviously a big mistake.

Was never a Chuck fan. Fights were boring. His striking defense was flailing like a toddler. Wasn’t all that dynamic. Going to Pride exposed how lacking his ability was.

Chuck Liddell had amazing power in both hands. His downside though was he had a glass chin.
