I have problem with Microsoft office activation once is clone HDD to SSD. Help me
ОтветитьThis is taking goatee to new heights. You really look like a goat. Besides that, incredibly dirty workspace. You should always perform this job with the computer horizontal. Not checking if you have the proper adhesive strips before starting this job/video, and still going ahead is tantamount to malpractice. What a sloppy job and sloppy video. Nobody should ever give you their computers to repair. Apparently you have also never heard of Black Magic for Mac OS.
ОтветитьI have 2tb fusion drive so when I remove the mechanical drive there will still be 120gb flash drive Apple used for fusing with the regular hard drive.
What should I do with it after I replace the mechanical 3.5 inch with the SSD, should I create the fusion drive out of those two SSDs, or simply ignore the much faster 120gb drive and use only the SATA SSD?
Make sure to enable TRIM. Sudo trim enable in terminal
ОтветитьIs the Crucial ssd better then the Samsung ssd ?
ОтветитьDO NOT USE A PIZZA CUTTER - YOU WILL DEFINITELY CRACK YOUR SCREEN...
ОтветитьBro, those chin hairs are cracking me up 😂
ОтветитьI did my 24" one myself. When I tried the same on a 27" I forgot to warm the screen edges first, so, CRACK. Small enough to not start onto the viewing area, but still...
ОтветитьIs this ssd ok for an late 2012 27 inch iMac.😊
Ответитьcut that chin hair mate
ОтветитьHello pls is iMac late 2020 SSD upgradeable
ОтветитьDon't use metal. Use plastic OCA filmz and use Alcohol ...
Ответитьawesome video! this gives me more confidence in attempting this much needed upgrade
ОтветитьHi, I need some help. I am looking to upgrade my iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2014), Processor: 4 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7, Graphics: AMD Radeon R9 M295X 4 GB
I use this mac for video editing and other graphic related work and it takes quite a long time to render the files.
What are my options here. Can I upgrade it to Intel® Core™ i9-10850K Processor 20M Cache, up to 5.20 GHz
What about the graphics upgrade?
HOW DO YOU SEND A REPAIR IN
ОтветитьI've decided its not worth upgrading my hard drive if I don't know what I'm doing, instead, opting to install mac OS on an external ssd instead and just run windows, via bootcamp, on the hard drive
ОтветитьNote that it's cheaper and faster (in operation), but harder to do, to ditch the SATA HDD/SSD entirely and instead replace the SSD blade on the motherboard. You'll need an M.2 connector to "proprietary Apple 12+16 connector" adapter (the small one without the board, just google) + NVMe blade, or one of the blades from OWC that has the Apple connector. They're 2-3x faster than SATA SSDs too.
ОтветитьI have an older imac and dreading the hard drive failure. Having to take the screen off to get to the hard drive is not my idea of fun.
Ответитьwhat a "userfriendly" device!
ОтветитьHi Adam, did you had any problem with the adhesive on any? What strips you buy? Looking around no matter, cheap or expensive there are always reviews that the screen has fallen after weeks. any tips to prevent this from happening? I seen a picture someone used a cable tie between the screen and the chasis, just in case.
ОтветитьThanks for that extremely helpful, as my iMac runs Big Sur should I download onto a flash drive this one, or let it download from the internet, regards mp
ОтветитьIF you are installing macOS Monterey, there is another reason to install an SSD. Monterey demands the APFS Storage Format. APFS was designed from the start to work well with Solid State Storage. And APFS does not work well with a spinning platter Hard Drive. You would have to go all the way back to macOS 10.13 High Sierra or earlier to get an operating system that functions properly with a Hard Drive formatted HFS+ (Mac OS Extended (Journaled)), John M.
Ответить👀👍👍
ОтветитьCan we follow this same process for the IMac 🖥️ 27” i5?
ОтветитьOh YIKES! Everything about this video was great except for a lulu of a mistake at one point! The memory modules are replaced by taking off the door on the back and slipping them in. Don’t remove the logic board! 🤣 Cheers and keep up the good work.
ОтветитьRather brush or air spray the dust inside the imac, would it be best to just get the hoover on it first.. take the dust out rather than push around!!!
ОтветитьI’ve just ordered a new SSD for my MacBook Pro. Watching this video has made me want to upgrade my iMac too, I’m just scared of the adhesive part but what the hell 😂 It’s in my head now so I have to try it :)
ОтветитьNice job on both the I-Mac and the tutorial. I've done this for both MacBooks and Minis but have
stayed away from I-Macs because of the whole screen (removal) issue. I may have access to
an I-Mac that I can purchase (cheap) and I now feel confident enough to install an SSD just
for the sake of hands on learning. I had no such interest or confidence in doing so until I saw
this excellent tutorial. Much gratitude to you !!!!!!!!!!!🇨🇦
Techtool Pro Is a complete diagnostic tool for Mac
ОтветитьI replaced HDD and RAM on my iMac 2013 last weekend. Installing SSD was easy, changing the RAM was tricky without removing the logicboard but I succeeded. I only had to remove the fan and needed muchmuch patience to install the new RAM. In newer versions of iMac, RAM is caged and you have to remove motherboard, loudspeakers and powersection 🙄
ОтветитьIs this compatible with an iMac (2019)??
SAMSUNG 980 PRO SSD 2TB PCIe NVMe Gen 4 Gaming M.2 Internal Solid State Drive Memory Card
I just bought 2 SSD's so I can put it in my Apple iMac 27-Inch "Core i5" 2.8 (Mid-2010), using one sata from the HD and the other from the motherboard.
Ответитьnice video, thank you. any reason why I couldn't just boot off an external SSD vs replacing the 2017 27" IMAC HDD/Fusion with an internal SSD (with one in your video)? Would the performance be equivalent? Is the juice worth the squeeze?
ОтветитьHi there, a long time ago I successfully completed the ssd transfer on a 2015 iMac using your original video, and it has worked superbly well until Apple issued Monterey OS. Since then the software has refused to let the onboard camera connect to facetime or any other product. Prior to Monterey, I was using OBS, with multiple cameras, now none of them appear on the studio floor. The strange thing is, that when facetime or OBS call for the camera, the steady green light comes on, but the source window remains dark, and the software declares that there is no camera connected. Now all the published fixes for 'reset' of the camera refer to flashing green light, which never happens, however I've performed all of them with no change to the status. The diagnostic reports nothing out of the ordinary, the reset of the vcd, happens and the green light comes back on, but still no camera. Plugging in the other usb cameras produces no result. It's a Mac well out of support, and their support pages are as useful as the other advice. There was a surprise update in April 23, despite being out of update range, but that changed nothing. What experience have you of this issue, and would you recommend retrograde to the OS if that is even possible?
ОтветитьI must say that your video was faultless. Concise and to the point.
Many Thanks
Regards from a Brit living in Germany.
I shall order the tape today and give it a go next week.
OK I am going to go down a different road to most of the comments here, which are most likely from your country men who are similar in make up. You draw everything out way too much, grass grows quicker, get to the point or provide gaps where important stuff starts and stops and a time line like you have done above. Your last video on this subject was 1 hour and 2 minutes long we don’t need to watch you taking out all 9 screws or removing all the tape and cleaning all the areas the tape was.
ОтветитьThe OWC install kits (contains everything) and video's are excellent
ОтветитьThank you so much for this detailed guide. I found lots of complains about the falling screen due to the glue strips while I was checking on Amazon, what kind of brands you recommended offer the best foam glue strips?
ОтветитьAfter following your video I found it wasn't so frightening to remove the screen and replace it. I had already done a SSD install in my old iMac 2011 which made it super fast. On the old Mac I had done an external boot with a fresh install of High Sierra which was fantastic. I just took the SSD out of the box and put it into a new sata bracket and then booted- boot time was 24 seconds! There was no need for a new install of the mac os it was up and running. So after this experience I did the same on the 2019 iMac , preparing an external usb-c box with a fresh Ventura os to get rid of old files etc. Not as fast as I had hoped ( 59 sec) but at least faster than the internal fusion drive. Screen off and the SSD installed - and woww boot time is now 32 seconds and straight into the desktop. With the external drive boot done first there was no lagging to find the HD as it was already used to startup from the SSD. Sticking the strips of adhesive and screen replacement was really easy . Thank you for such a detailed video and giving me the courage to finally do this thing!
ОтветитьI want to do this but i just fear I will break the screen. Are there companies that do this in the USA?
ОтветитьHi, may I ask what you charge to do this this update/repair? If you can't answer here that's ok/ Cheers
Ответитьhello! i really hope you can help me. your explanation is certainly the most understanding I've ever seen make this fix, but still I have a question and I have not been able to find information about it. I have an iMac late 2015, no fusion drive, just a SSD blade. im planing opening soon to replace the disk, since its dead. but I want to know if its possible add a second SSD 2.5. all the tutorials I've seen have done it with a team that previously had an HHD, i.e. had a sata entrance available, besides the support to place the disk. i think if anyone can meet this, it's you. thank you very much, I love your channel
ОтветитьI despise companies who make their over priced products damn near impossible and an absolute pain in the ass to work on and upgrade.
ОтветитьGreat vid, great info!! Much appreciated. Now, let's go ahead and shave of the 'early years of MuDvAyNe' beard and we're good to go. 😛
Ответитьhello Can you advise me if I wet the blade with alcohol please?
ОтветитьQuality content my friend, i appreciate your professionalism and not giving into mediocrity, respect.
Ответитьmy screen has a little crack in one corner.. doesn't bother me but would you say getting the screen out would be ok or break it totally??? thanks
ОтветитьIf I already have a 1.2 TB hard drive, is that not the same thing as SSD?
ОтветитьIf you iMac shipped with a Fusion Drive, you might consider replacing the tiny PCIe SSD drive (NVMe plus an Apple adapter) instead of the 2.5" SATA drive. This requires a lot more work (removing the speakers, main logic board, etc), but gets you a storage device running 4+ times faster than the SATA SSD. Certainly consider upgrading your memory (RAM) while you have the logic board out.
What I did with my 2017 iMac, is put in 2TB PCIe SSD and a 2TB SATA SSD. I even added a small $6.00 USD heat sync to my PCIe SSD, though that probably didn't ad much cooling capability. MacOS on the PCIe and Windows on the SATA., been installed for two years now, problem free.
I would also like to point out, when you go to blow out the dirt of any computer... do that outside, not inside the house... an iMac, or any computer, can dump a lot of dust you don't want inside..
"Hard drives are awful!" -truer words were never spoken!
