Table Manners 101: Basic Dining Etiquette

We cannot apply that many spoons and fork. Many big restaurants nowadays simply put 1 spoon and 1 spoon, that's it.

What about how to hold a fork or a knife (or both) ?

1. Dessert fork should be placed below the dessert spoon.
2. You NEVER put the hand you are not using on your lap (maybe in the US).
3. May (more appropriate than "can").
4. You NEVER leave the table to go to the loo/toilets") (before or after only, unless you really have a "condition").

While it is kosher to keep one hand below the table in the States in the European style it is rude and you should keep both hands on the table, while eating.

Why are forks on the left side when most people are right handed?

My mother was like a drill sergeant with table manners and I'm glad she was. In turn my children were taught correct table manners. It doesn't cost anything, takes no effort, yet is invaluable. And what is up with people having their elbows all over the table?? Everywhere I go people are slouched all over their plates.

About the napkin, though, that should go on the diner's chair if he or she needs to leave the table for a moment but is not yet finished with his/her meal. When he/she is finished, then the napkin should be placed beside the dinner plate or where the plate rested if now removed, as you said.

I never realized how consequential proper table manners were until I watched this video. From using the right utensils to knowing how to hold a discussion, there are so many little details that can make a big difference in how others perceive us at the table. I'm going to start implementing these tips in my own life! Thank You!

All those tables manners , are good for those who want to use them ; but , for me and my family , we enjoy sitting confortable around the table ,talking and laughing , and telling each others , how was our day , be with my family at the table and having a meal with them : that is the most precious time we share together 🍲 . and I won’t spoil it with silly rules . Everything that we do . we love and respect , it is always the best way .
