I didn't realize until later how impactful this vid was on me. I haven't seen that many smiles on peoples faces in a long time. A stunning collection of Americana presented through one of Mr. Mellencamp's finest offerings. I'm hard-pressed to imagine a better pairing.

I've always liked this song .Great Video ! The one thing that struck me about the video was the year the film was taken .Judging by the cars it looked like it was the mid to late 1930's . If that's correct all those young guys didn't know they would be fighting in WW2 a few years later in Europe or the Pacific . They looked like they were just happy living their lives in that peaceful small town . It just hit me that way .Again ,Great Video and Song !

A once in a lifetime musician. Who lived in a better era, reminiscing about an even greater era. There is always something, some hope. Greatness, happiness is everywhere if we actively seek it out. It’s not all despair. Regardless of which era.😊 2 decades or more later, I’m still here.

I look at these old films knowing they are all dead now. How many of these young men died just a few years later in WW2

It takes life experience to understand these lyrics. A beautiful explanation of youth, of middle age and finally passing the torch. We that understand, pass the torch on to those that don't understand. Strange how life works.

Can’t believe this song was on The Bear Hulu so freaking cool..but really any of JCM makes me so freaking sad/ angry.. lost my dad on May 10th 21 to suicide he loved John cougar. I was raised and brought up in Bloomington IN born in Indianapolis. This song hits right at home for real

The accordion and strings really make this song so much better, although they've gained a note of melancholy for me, looking back over the years as time has changed things, not for the better. Great times back then, so much better than today.
