I realize the tie down rule was instituted due primarily to Ray but I can’t help feel that if it existed before his time, he’d have been a career AHL’er like most other mediocre goons.

Ray was the biggest cheater of all time. He stunk as a fighter earlier in his career before he went to the shirtless antics. Check out his fights against Miller, Byers, Kocur and heck even Adam Graves before the naked stuff. He changed his fortunes by cheating. Look, I get it that the shirt came off most times with guys like Cochrane, Mcsorley and to a lesser extent Probert. But at least there was something to grab on to like the T shirt or pads.

I really cant think of a tougher job than being an nhl enforcer. Especially in the 80s and 90s.

Outside of the fact he was a Sabre for a decade +..... The reason Rob Ray was my favorite fighter was that he was never there to act tough and dance around. When he was ready to throw (win or lose), that's what he was doing just throwing and throwing haymakers from start to finish. That first fight with Vial, I thought they were going to move in to the back of the Arena and keep throwing. RJ always makes the fights better as well!

How Rick Jeanerette never got the NBC hockey announcing job it’s a shame not more NHL fans were exposed to him growing up. Him calling a game instantly makes it 2x more exciting and him calling a fight? Forget about it. Would’ve been a better fit then doc Emerson or Darren pang or whatever
