It's funny reading all of the "prophetic" comments below, 9 months later.

I will just make my own GH5s by disabling the IBIS on my GH5 and using time-warp slow-motion on my 180fps footage... Not paying for 4k 60p ALL-I, when that should have been in my friggan GH5

The question is whether the GH5S is worth a 25% price increase/premium (using U.S. pricing) over the GH5. In the U.S., at least, the GH5 body sells for $2,000 and the GH5S will apparently cost $2500.

Panasonic had to remove IBIS to make room for the additional cooling for the sensor. There was a concern that removing the recording time limit at the frame rates and bit depth this thing can run at would create excess heat.
Without the IBIS mechanism in place, allows for a slightly larger sensor and is now directly coupled to the GH5s chassis. As mentioned in the video, this doesn't come as much of an issue for more complex video work since this thing will be right at home sitting on a gimbal/stabilizer rig.

thank you! today Sony didn't show any new successors a5300 at CES. probably it's time to step up and maybe this camera I have to use for my videos.

Maybe it's just a test to see how people react and they can activate the stabilization with a software update?

As a GH5 user this actually really pisses me off that Panasonic did this.  All of these features should've been in the GH5!  If I had known at the time this camera would be coming out 6 months later, I would have fucking waited.  I would love all of these features right now, but I'm not going to sell my GH5 and get less than what I paid for it just to spend $500 more than what I originally paid.

Usually I love shooting in the night with handheld. Now we have nice ISO but we havent 5 axis. Its not problem if this camera will not cost 2500 $ . O come on Lumix!!! I'm owner of gh5 but I'm must say this: Sony still rule!!! Forgive me

What exactly are 'more serious video shooters' exactly? Because these almost everyone I see and know loves IBIS and uses it constantly. Let's leave RED, Kinefinity, BM, and Alexa out of the discussion for obvious reasons, but for smaller cameras, IBIS is the standard now, imo.

Sony's upcoming announcement of the A7SIII will kill the GH5s hype real quick.. full frame 12MP, improved IBIS, 4K60p, 10bit video, and all same body improvements of the A7RIII

Sorry, but bigger pixels with the same sensorsize doesn't improve DR or noise performance. Look at the performance of the A7R2 vs A7S2 for example.

No IBIS? Are you FUCKING KIDDING ME??? What the actual FUCK Panasonic!!!
No. Absolutely no. When I saw no IBIS my jaw just dropped and I was speechless for a solid minute. I can't believe they actually removed it!! This is just stupendus. 1 step forward and 2 steps back. There is no way I'm buying a camera in 2018 without IBIS video or stills. I love shooting with primes and being light too much for this.
And here I was planning to go all out on MFT with the release of the GH5S since the rumors. I guess I'll stick with Sony.
And also why the fuck does it still have a shutter? WHERE is the build in ND?
But with that said I got to say, that dual ISO is genius. How I couldn't see that coming? Great idea. BUT THEY FUCKED IT UP!!!

Excellent overview. Looks like U.S. price is $2500. B&H says "Coming Soon", Adorama says it's shipping Feb. 5.

I wish it had ibis that’s one of the main deal breaker for me. At that price point why not just get a7sii which has ibis and better low light

Wow this looks really good. I hope Sony is crapping themselves over this and takes note over things like timecode jamming (edit, for the inevitable a7s3).
