You shock at the amount of hair in the fans amused me. We had a long haired cat, recently deceased. When we bought a new refrigerator the instructions for the condenser were - never needs cleaning, if you have a cat clean once a month. I've probably vacuumed enough cat hair out out the carpet to weave a new carpet made only of cat hair.

As a layman I don't understand why the CPU's aren't replaceable. They seem to be with Desktops. Help me understand this please.

I'd say it is worth trying to reflow the cpu at this point. Either it will work or stay nonfunctional.

I think Andy is knitting a sweater out of gooch. You won't be offended if he uses it for that, right?

Too bad you couldn't save the laptop after putting so much work into it. I know $1100 for a new PCB seems like a lot, but that is a high-end machine even today. It might be worth the price.

I was thinking, when are you going to show a video of a motherboard meet its doom hammer. But, for the hell
of it, flash the bios and re-flow the CPU. Only because the CPU is not totally dead ..... its trying to see the light.

I`m total noob when it comes to this but why CPU and GPU cant be replaced ... i feel like i`ve seen reballing happening with GPU... again total noob. BDW its a pleasure watching you early in the morning with a cup of coffee. Also where would one start learning about laptop repairs if one wants to make it a hobby.(book or udemy or something else - if you have direct link or the name of the book) Thanks

POV "When you see a very very simple capacitor crack but you checked the video runtime and it still has almost 30 minutes left" : Ohhh boyy.
That CPU is probably ded. The symptom is real similar with the degraded Intel gen 13 and 14 CPU. Random BSOD code and zero stability. Whenever it's asked to do something it just gave up.

Also no way you actually send that to the gooch collector. Thanks for making the best collab that ever lived.

That many scews, and mfg use several diameters, heads, and lengths, scares the heck out of me about trying any laptop repairs, I'm amazed you put 'em all in one cup. But you've been doing this a long time for many of the same or similar systems so probably know which ones are different, if they are.

Or is the size/length differences not as bad as Apples makes them? :)

Is it common to replace laptop mobo components these days? About 15 years ago, it was cheaper to replace the whole board.

This kind of problem I believe is from using your laptop while you are in bed. The laptop constantly is sucking lint and microfibers in through the air intake. If you like to use your laptop in bed, you should use a piece of wood or something (anything really) to sit the laptop on, giving it the proper ventilation. Cheers!

Shouldn't the CPU self shut down to protect itself if it is getting too hot?

Wow, bummer. Nice work though. I thought all modern cpus would throttle down as much as needed to keep from overheating, or is that just to keep them from melting/catching fire?

I don't know much about laptops but are you saying you can't replace the CPU? Do you have to replace the whole motherboard if the CPU fails? On desktops the CPU's are socketed. Or are you saying the CPU is the 1100 dollar component?

Hello! Can you try changeing the 330uf capacitor next to the one you (already) changed? (it may have suffered during the reheat and leaked).... and a Reflow of the cpu may also fix the errors.... PS. Try booting a win7 live PE , and share the error with us... thanks. (nice video).

I'm following Sorin's advice to have my gaming laptop cleaned internally from dust and repasted every 2-3 months. Air has many particulates including human and animal hair and carpet lint including air pollution, especially if you live near factories. Nothing to worry about, not another pandemic so move along...🎩.

Maybe a Reflow of the CPU?.. because of overheating due to poor ventilation may have caused micro cracks of the balls under the CPU.

After seeing what can happen to an Alienware, if the cat/dog hair + Dirts! Can kill/destroy the machine! Make me want to tear my down! Sadly, win10/11 don't have a widget that would measure the CPU/Ram temp, and you should tell overheat clean the fan out! Being looking for a fan/temp widget/gadget for Window 11 machine!
